Sadly desperate for a full leg, underarm and bikini wax I headed to the Waxing Company based on its reviews here. But once again I find the Berlin waxers SORELY (pun intended) lacking! Boiling hot 'honey' wax is used and re-used and the result is a first degree burn, and a dreadful lack of licensing by the Berlin government!
So here's the sell point: warm honey wax and fast efficient service.
What you actually get:
(1) Honey wax is sticky and doesn't dry and must be removed with strips. I don't know what kind of wax this is, but it's certainly not honey wax. It is a thick, boiling hot, re-used (that's disgusting!) wax that's applied with a spatula from a huge 'tub', sears the first layer of skin off (1st degree burns) and then is pulled off by hand and dumped in a plastic bag for re-use!
(2) My 'girl' is a Portuguese student who does the job as a side-line to her local art studies. She had no idea how to cool the wax, no training as a beautician or esthetician, wasn't and isn't licensed and has nothing to do with salons or spas, instead got the job through a friend because she needs to pay her rent. So when my skin got red and burned she didn't have a clue how to deal with it.
(3) There was no post wax check for ingrown hairs or toe hair removal. There was no 'edging' of the upper thigh area.
I suffered the leg wax but immediately put a stop to the bikini and under arm wax.
24 hours later my legs are still burning and red. That's insane!
So for you ladies who think this establishment is worthy of anything more than one star, I suggest trying a similar service in Paris or New York and then re-evaluate your experience! If enough people complain, the waxing salons in Berlin might actually start looking into alternative waxes and the local Berlin government might actually look into licensing this type of establishment.
Meanwhile, watch out that you don't develop a serious infection thanks to the unsanitary habit of re-using wax on others, no matter if it's boiled and strained. That's disgusting and would be considered illegal anywhere else!
Don't do your waxing in Berlin. Period! read more
