Roman Nose State Park Lodge - The Lodge deck had umbrellas when we were through last. Still a lovely place.

    Roman Nose State Park Lodge

Five years ago, we were driving back from a relative's 90th Birthday party in Dodge City, when we…read morecame upon the most beautiful little Oklahoma State Park outside of Watonga called Roman Nose. We said we would be back someday to stay and it's taken us this long to return. Roman Nose State Park, named after Cheyenne Chief Henry, is one of the original seven Oklahoma State Parks. A former Cheyenne winter camp, the park is set in a beautiful canyon, surrounded by gypsum rock cliffs. Roman Nose boasts a stunning golf course, stables for horseback riding, hiking trails, WPA buildings, an enormous spring fed swimming pool and two spring fed trout stocked lakes. The Lodge, originally constructed in 1956, was renovated in 2010 to reflect the natural landscape of the surrounding area and it is gorgeous. It has a Frank Lloyd Wright feel to it. There are 22 rooms and it has its own swimming pool. There's a gift shop inside and a wall full of Oklahoma travel brochures in the lobby. There are a few snacks and beverages at the desk. The park also has Cabins, Tee Pees and other camping areas as well as a General Store that handles horse, canoe, kayak, and paddleboat rentals in addition to feeding people with a wonderful restaurant! It's a long walk from the drop off point of the parking lot to the actual doors, across the wide lobby, and down the hall to any of the rooms. After checking in, which was seamless, we chose one of hotel style luggage carts and took it all the way outside. From there, it was simply no problem; but there is no one to help you with your luggage. You are on own as far as I could tell. We had secured our Lakeside King room online using a Senior discount. If you stay on a Friday or a Saturday, you have to stay both nights; but we were staying a Sunday. The Lodge is simply stunning. So much interior wood and rock and historic photos. We found everything to be very clean which was wonderful. I would say the pool was the highlight really. We were out there for an hour or so and had this great big beautiful pool all to ourselves. Sundays are slow apparently. It was a lovely setting with towels thoughtfully provided at poolside. Perfect. We were prepared for no microwave and found a community microwave out in a hallway alcove. With only a few people staying there on Sunday, I was okay with it; but really would have preferred one in our room. We slept well. There's a ceiling fan and room darkening blinds. We were very comfortable. We did discover the next morning that the coffee maker didn't work. It wasn't a big deal as there was fresh coffee on a utility cart out in the hallway. We had missed a continental breakfast from 6 - 9. Probably our loss. The description from the desk had sounded pretty yummy; but we slept in. There is a closed restaurant where the communal living room with fireplace and deck entrance used to be. Honestly, that was disappointing to see; but we were allowed deck access through a large meeting room. The view from the deck is terrific. A sweet place for coffee, unfortunately the umbrellas aren't up. Still, the tables and chairs are in use. We checked out and drove up canyon to the General Store for lunch. I've reviewed that, too. Scrumptious burgers! We love this park and the Lodge! It's an Oklahoma treasure. https://www.travelok.com/state-parks/roman-nose-state-park

As opposed to every…read moreother trip that was planned to the minute, this trip because my mother in law having health problems, we left at the last minute to get back by Christmas eve. This meant, not having hotels rooms booked and using points. So, we had to book rooms and pay for them . But, the Best Westerns we stayed at have been great. That's Yuma, Albuquerque and Weatherford OK. Rooms were very nice and all the breakfasts were excellent. But the breakfast and the BWplus in Weatherford,l was one of the best hotels we'd stayed at. The hotel has been recently up graded and room was very clean. But, the breakfast was a step above every other. I'd walked in thinking was like other BWs. Decided to start with oatmeal and next to the pot, we're containers of raisins, brown sugar, granola, and nuts. Then they had a chaffing dish of scrambled eggs, sausages and potatos. But, then the wife came to me and whispered "they have an omelet station." What? No way! Indeed they'd did. At first, didn' look like much. Just an omelet pan and a container of cheese. I didn't see anything else to add to it. Then, the lovely Dina came out of the kitchen and asked if I wanted an omelet and what would like in it? "What do you have?" She answered, in a lovely British accent, "You name it!" She then listed about 20 items she had in the refrigerator. Including ham, bacon, sausage. Onions, mushrooms, green peppers, and more, the usual ingredients you'd find at a fancy casino buffet. And. It was delicious! But, there's more! They had the usual make your own waffles machine. But in addition to the usual syrups, they more containers of jams, nuts, raisins. They also had a kids delight containers of chocolate chips, marshmallows, strawberry jam and Nutella container. Then, to top everything off. They have a super coffee machine with every hot drink imaginable. This includes coffee and decaf, but also hot chocolate. Cappuccino, lattes and expresso. With options of making them all chocolate or vanilla flavors!. Great machine. So, Weatherford Best Western Plus, we're all ready planning to stay on the trip back!

Do not stay HERE!…read more The "owner" of Best Western Plus in Weatherford Oklahoma is either wildly disorganized or running a scam -- and based on our experience, I'm leaning toward the latter. My family stopped here for less than 8 hours while driving home from vacation with three small children in early April. We simply needed a safe, clean place to sleep for the night. Instead, upon arrival we were first given a room that looked like it had been abandoned midway through a police raid -- completely disheveled, filthy, and appearing more like a storage unit or a room someone had been squatting in than an actual hotel room. We were then moved downstairs to another room that was at least functional enough to sleep in for a few hours before leaving early the next morning. The real issue began afterward. Although we had prepaid for the room through USAA Travel Deals using a completely different card, the hotel required our debit card "for incidentals." The next day, we discovered they had charged our account $275 without authorization or explanation. After nearly a month of trying to get answers, I finally spoke with an employee named Keenan, who repeatedly had to "relay messages" from the mysterious owner rather than having the owner speak directly himself. I was eventually told the charge was because housekeeping claimed a quilt and other items were "missing" from the room. Let me be abundantly clear: we did not take a hotel quilt -- arguably one of the least desirable textiles on earth -- scratchy towels, or anything else from this hotel. As I told Keenan, it wasn't even my decor. The absurdity of accusing a tired family traveling with exhausted children of stealing nasty used bedding from a roadside hotel would almost be funny if they hadn't helped themselves to a few hundred dollars directly from our bank account. If items were genuinely missing, perhaps management should spend less time accusing paying guests and more time figuring out what's happening inside the property they clearly struggle to maintain or supervise. The entire experience felt shady from start to finish: * filthy first room * unexplained charges * impossible communication * accusations with zero proof * owner hiding behind employees instead of speaking directly At this point, the unauthorized charge feels less like an "incidental fee" and more like a business model. Avoid this place entirely unless you enjoy being treated like a criminal after paying to stay in a motel that barely meets the definition of operational.521537

The front desk associate was friendly and helpful upon check in. We really like the room set up in these hotels. They all have a couch, large TV and kitchenette which is perfect for our travels. The kitchenette has glassware, full place settings, stovetop, coffee machine, full refrigerator and dishwasher. As with all Home2 Suites, they no longer provide cookware in the rooms due to theft. If you need to cook something, you can check out cookware at the front desk which is nice. I appreciate having coffee in the morning but it always bothers me that all hotels provide more decaf coffee than regular coffee so you need to run downstairs and ask for coffee. At least they provide the liquid cream instead of the powder. The main lobby has plenty of seating for workspace or their complimentary breakfast in the morning. Coffee and tea are always available as well as TV's should you choose to hang out in the lobby. They do have beverages for purchase in the minimart but no alcohol at this location. There is an indoor pool which is great for families as well as a large workout room. I love the fire pits available at Home2 Suites, however, this particular location is right off the freeway so you cannot enjoy the fire pit without noise from traffic. We were lucky to have a room on the backside of the hotel so traffic noise wasn't a huge issue until early morning when the business next door started running trucks. Our stay was short, only overnight, but it was a great price and nice place to stay.
