We had our wedding at Waterstone last month, and I have good things to say and bad.
So first I'll give credit where it is due. The setting is beautiful, and with good weather and sunny skies, the lighting is perfect for weddings. The food was also fantastic! And our guests all gave rave reviews of the food, especially the tortellini with pesto and the potatoes! I was nervous it would be typical wedding food, but the catering from O'Malleys in Newmarket, was outstanding. The girls serving the food also get props! I know one was Liz, but I forget the other. But, servers were absolute gems. That accounts for the 2 stars I've rated.
On the flip side, to have a beautiful wedding with great food means you will have to deal with the owner Deborah... alot. And it will probably be the most stressful part of your wedding planning, period. I've never dealt with someone so disorganized and flighty, for lack of words. Planning to meet is its own ordeal... you show up, she's not there. I've made the 40 minute drive from my house three times in one day to accommodate her forgetfulness or lateness. I've emailed her and had to wait almost a week for a response. I had to sign liability releases and get insurance and jump through pretty difficult hoops to protect her and Waterstone. In exchange, my wedding guests had to risk injury by collapsing all the tables from the wedding before ours and carrying them to storage. Good thing they didn't get hurt, cause there was no liability form for that! It is sheer frustration by the time the wedding day arrives.
As for the venue, as I mentioned the previous wedding was not cleaned up. Somehow that became our job. The staff that was supposed to arrive at 830am to set up tables did not show until 1030am, and still they watched my guests and myself carry in the tables and set them up. They laid out the linens though... they did that like pros. The kitchen was full of old food and leftover cake, including day old rotting shrimp which smelled bad. But bad smells aside, we had two guests deathly allergic to shellfish, so thanks Waterstone for the near-miss.
To top it all off, my credit card was charged (without notice) for $300, while we were on our honeymoon 5 days later, for damages unseen and absolutely not caused during our time there. This is still an ongoing fight, unfortunately, because we'd like nothing more than to put the whole experience behind us!
Overall opinion: The good did not outweigh the bad. read more
