Aside from the obvious magnificent beauty of the entire state, I love tracking down and photographing the covered bridges. When I returned to VT in 2025, I made sure I mapped out a covered bridge "tour" for my husband and I to go on. What's fun about the Cornish-Windsor Covered Bridge is that we got to be in 2 states at once. We drove from one side of the bridge in VT to the other side of New Hampshire. Some people may shrug their shoulders and ask, yeah so? But for me, stuff like that is so cool !! It's the longest covered bridge in VT and would have been the oldest bridge dating back to 1796, but that got washed away by floods (plus 3 more times) until its current completion date of 1886. It is 449 feet long and was the longest covered bridge in the United States until the Smolen-Gulf Bridge in Ashtabula Ohio was built. It is still both the longest wooden covered bridge and it is the longest single span that still carries automobile traffic. The bridge is the fourth on this site with the 1796, 1824 and 1849 bridges all washed away by flood waters. It was purchased by the State of New Hampshire in 1936 and they removed all tolls from the bridge in 1943. My Sprinter van is 10 feet tall and so I ended up quickly walking across the bridge during breaks in traffic. There is no pedestrian walkway and there is no lighting so if you do this, be very careful! There is a small (probably not legal) parking area on the Vermont side next to a pumping station building. Don't go beyond the speed limit; he'll pull you over and give your city slicker ass a ticket. That's about it. It rocks.

Boston, Massachusetts is 66 miles south of it. The largest employers are State of NH and Concord Hospital, to name a couple. The White Mountains are north of it. My family and I enjoyed exploring the area. It's a beautiful city with lovely surroundings. From hills, mountains, hiking, skiing, and the beach is within driving distance, about 53 miles away; it's a big city with small town vibes, with many things to do. We have family living nearby so we visit quite often. Overall, a cute city and worth the visit.

I love our community library. Tracy Library is a treasure in New London. For starters, the building…read moreitself. One of the oldest buildings in town, in the National Register, dating back almost 300 years. Then the facilities. From an outdoor garden for peace and quiet and reading and contemplation, to a beautiful reading room, to a community meeting space frequently used by many organizations. Tracy Library also has an enviable music selection, inter library ability, a large children's section, and a huge reference library. The staff is highly trained, a new director whose aim is to enhance the library's role in the community, and an elected Board of Directors who are residents and neighbors. Truly a magnificent place.

I have averaged a weekly visit to the Tracy Memorial Library for the past fifteen years. I access the library most often for books on CD and could download the same or similar information online. Instead, I prefer to visit the library and interact with the staff.
