I occasionally see a restaurant on YELP that makes Walmut Creek look attractive but I have proudly shaken the cheating Walnut Creek dust off of my sandals. There was an exception where I was taken to that God forsaken place due to me being in a coma. Also I am taking my daughter there for a Dr. appointment today. Restaurants and shopping and parking in that trap? Not going to happen until Hell freezes over.

Downtown Walnut Creek is always very lively!!!…read more The Broadway Plaza is a good sized outdoor shopping mall with lots of high end stores and plenty of restaurants. As a matter of fact, a lot of the downtown area has plenty of restaurants, bars, bookstores, coffee shops, and other businesses. Sometimes, parking may be a challenge, and just driving through here might take some time with all the people walking around, it's a very walkable area. This is definitely the place to be in Walnut Creek, and I would say this place has way more action than the other surrounding cities have in their downtown areas!!

cute park just outside of the san mateo county traffic court. on a nice, warm day, it's actually a…read moregreat place to just sit and read or eat your lunch if you're waiting for your case to be called or the court is on lunch recess. whoever does the landscaping here does a pretty good job b/c the lawn is always neatly manicured and bushes evenly clipped. sometimes there is a food cart on the corner so you can even grab some food, then sit on one of the benches here and enjoy it. park is open even when the traffic court is closed.

Visited today with BB -- our first time here. We definitely picked the wrong season, as most of the…read moreroses have already been pruned. Even so, the garden itself is peaceful and well maintained. What really stood out was the view -- you can see the Golden Gate Bridge from the garden, which is beautiful and unexpected. There's also a constant sound of rushing water nearby (not sure if that's always there), but it added to the calm and made the few roses still in bloom more enjoyable. The garden is wheelchair accessible, though I will note the hill leading up to the entrance is very steep. They do have public restrooms and tennis courts on site, which is nice. Street parking only -- and be careful, cars come around the bend quickly. Overall, even though we missed peak bloom season, it was still worth the visit for the views and the atmosphere. I'd love to come back in the spring when everything is in full bloom.

Bamboo used for the surface decking is an environmentally friendly renewable resource and all landscaping used are low-water species. Café Greco has agreed to provide daily maintenance, although all seating is free and open to the public.

This is an absolutely gorgeous parklet. While there are two rivaling parklets just footsteps away,…read morethis one by far has the most amazing aesthetic. It almost looks like a wooden ship, cruising down Judah Street. The parklet is all made of beautifully finished wood, with built-in planters, a platform for bike parking and plenty of seating. There are a handful of wooden benches to sit on and a couple of longer table-like features. This is a great place to people-watch, or enjoy your coffee and a snack. Make sure to check out the local shops that help maintain this space!

This is a carved redwood bust of Junipero Serra (inscribed with the words: "Padre Junipero Serra,…read moreApostle of California. Presented to the citizens of San Mateo, CA by the San Mateo Serra Club in 1969"). The sculptor was Kenyon Kaiser and the statue is mounted on a concrete pedestal, and nestled in a small redwood grove parklet at S. El Camino Real and Aragon Blvd. This great little piece of California history is one of many, many monuments across the State honoring the man who "settled" CA for the Spaniards and destroyed Native American sovereignty, enslaving thousands and seizing their land. The statue is presumably located here because of Serra's association with El Camino Real -- he helped to blaze the trailer Northward while establishing the string of Missions that are situated along the route.

It was different then in both the good and bad of it. At the time, I didn't like Davis.. and I really hated the commute from Sac those 4 years. It was more bicycle friendly- so moving around to shop or eat, or go to a park for a lunch time walk was a lot more of a breeze. It even had a sign on Richards Blvd off I-80 going into town about Davis being the bicycle capital of the world (I'm paraphrasing, but, something to that effect) Road Traffic in Davis was minimal. It was always a fun place to grab some food. I will always give David credit for the variety of restaurants here! Fast forward to 2023...I absolutely adore Davis! I drop in from time to time to eat or stop by Trader Joe's for pure nostalgia. LOL. I remember getting around most of Davis pretty well without GPS. Absolutely hate the road traffic! There's cars EVERYWHERE!! Funny how time changes things. LOL.
