They have a few farm animals like horses, cows, donkeys, rabbits, chickens, and more. The barn includes information about all of the animals and the nature center has more information about Connecticut's nature scene. There's also a trail that seems to lead pretty far out. We'll check it out next time.

This is a very easy and accessible trail - just about a mile loop. Lots of Farmington River views…read moreand a bridge or two. The path is wide, flat, and paved with a gravel section you'll find after you walk under the overpass and end up by Bart's Hot Dogs. The main parking lot is on Palisado, kind of Kitty Corner to Bart's. The main entrance path soon turns into a "T", so you have the option of heading left to Pleasant Street Park (.4 miles) or right to Mechanic Street (.5 miles). We went left, walked all the way to the boat launch behind Bart's, then doubled back. It was a very enjoyable walk with great scenery everywhere we looked.

Well, maybe your design plan would include plenty of open green spaces, baseball, soccer and lacrosse fields, basketball courts, maybe a few walking trails, picnic areas, playgrounds, a Fitness Station, a skatepark, two ice cream trucks, an all-inclusive boundless playground, and a gazebo for groups and barbecuing. And you'd probably want an easy to find location with a few different entrances and parking lots, right? Well, if you're looking for such a town park in South Windsor, CT, look no further than Nevers Park, because it has all of the above plus more. Today was a beautiful Saturday afternoon and there was plenty of activity going on at Nevers today. The playgrounds and splash pad were packed, there was a big group at the gazebo barbecuing lunch, we saw plenty of well-behaved dogs on their leashes, and we saw one cute little guy shooting baskets on a Munchkin-sized hoop that must have been four feet off the ground. We walked a leisurely loop around the property on their wide flat paved trails which took us to their ball fields, playground, splash pad, skate park and fields. What a wonderful park!

This is far and away the best playground and splash pad combination in the Greater Hartford area…read more The playground offers different options for younger and older kids, with some new additions mixed in with some older playground gear. There is a cool basketball shooting area with poops of different heights. The splash pad is really the selling point during the summer. It's clean, offers seating with Adirondack chairs in the shade and sun, and a variety of different water play activities. We love having play dates here and there's always a lot to do. We haven't ventured over to the field area or the skate park, but I'm sure those are fun as well.

When looking for a place for a quick walk and a picnic, we were excited to check out Filley Park…read more Although the park is quite small, it was really enjoyable to walk around the wooded trail before walking around the pond and gardens. The wooded loop trail is probably about half a mile and the walk through the garden is probably another ~.15-.25 miles; both are mostly flat. There are tons of benches and a few picnic tables to enjoy the scenery and do some birdwatching. We visited on a Sunday afternoon and the park wasn't too busy. We were able to find a picnic table, that was pretty clean, and enjoy a picnic lunch. All-in-all, we really enjoyed our time and we will definitely be back on a regular basis as it's conveniently located in between all of our errands.

Tremendous progress has been made in the reclamation and renovation of Filley Park…read more When I first visited and posted in 2013, the place was a mess. The Pond was full of silt, and needed to be excavated and restored. Massive populations of ducks and geese had done their things and fouled up the area. When I next visited in 2018 a lot of progress had been made. I saw all sorts of construction activity, heavy equipment, and big piles of dirt and gravel. Improvements to sidewalks, landscaping, and lighting were underway, as was the dredging and refilling of the Pond. And when I visited yesterday, I saw much more! The sidewalks and benches and seating areas are finished. The Pond looks great, The ducks and geese are mostly gone, and a few straggles were clustered way off to the side. There's still some construction equipment on site, and excavation continues, but the overall progress is quite remarkable. We walked around the Pond as far as we could and took a stroll on some of their hiking trails.

It's not a protected archaeological site so it's very accessible to the public, although there is no formal parking lot so pay attention to how you park and respect the property. I love these roadside oddities, I find them irresistible on many fronts and seek them out in my travels. These scrapyard works of art exhibits a very creative mind. These colorful creatures are pretty amazing so if you get the chance to enjoy them if only for a few moments I highly recommend doing it...

These are literally just some metal dinosaur sculptures that are on the corner of a residential…read moreroad, and they're fantastic. They're well-made and fun to look at. There's no real parking since it's just a residential street, so you have to park off the side of the road and walk to the corner. I went in the fall and it was really nice, but a bit muddy. There's also a geocache hidden here that was fun to look for and find!

Beautiful park in the center of Hartford! The train station is directly across the street making it easily accessible. A lot of people don't know that this is America's oldest publicly funded park, but they offer tours that allow you to find out more about everything that has gone into the park over the years. The views of the city from the top of the arch on Trinity Street are gorgeous. Many events and clubs are hosted in the park like the annual Jazzfest and weekly run club and yoga.

Absolutely gorgeous, magical day, the kind that makes one thankful for the opportunity to enjoy…read morenature...sunny, mid 60's, low humidity, gentle breeze. Blue heron right after you enter from the south terminus. Lots of turtles basking. Eagles (adult and 2 juvies) visible in their nest, with another adult high above about 50 yds north. Another uge (we don't pronounce the "h" where I'm from) blue heron about 7/10ths of a mile from the start. Ducks, geese, hawk. Haven't seen a rabbit yet this year. My theory is that overcutting on the bank of the canal-side has caused rabbits to change their habits (seriously). No place to hide from predators. Everyone friendly...strollers, fishermen, bicyclists.... I tried to make a video of the song, "I was strolling thru the park one day, in the very merry month of May...". Lucky for the reader / listener that my phone was having memory issues. Always a 5 star!

I would say this was the most peaceful part of the park as it seemed most people didn't really come out that far or if they did it was just to turn around. After we took a nice stroll through the Irish, English, and Oriental gardens. My favorite parts had to be the tree maze and hydrangea garden. I also got the chance to touch lamb ears for the first time... What an interesting experience! Can't wait to return to this park to explore more of the gardens and finally see the view of Hartford that everyone is always talking about.

The gardens were beautiful, however three of the main ones I wanted to see were reserved on the day we went. I wish it was advertised somewhere which gardens are available on which day, I assume they get reserved weeks or months in advance, so it was disappointing when we assumed they were open to the public right up until we almost walked in on someone's party. Some of the other areas are very worn and need work. In addition the birds are kept is very small cages, and it broke my heart :/
