American Family Insurance is an insurance company I would NEVER recommend! They do not want to…read morenegotiate with auto body shops. They act like they will, and then literally negotiate $1/hr and call it "meeting halfway." When asking for diminished value from a full liability accident via their client, they mailed me a $31 check that made our auto body shop laugh. When having difficulty getting them to pay for the damage to my car, they stated they've had issues with auto body shops and negotiating, in the past. They seem to act like they're on your side until the bill comes and they want to pay as little as possible. They do not calculate diminished value fairly/standardly. The claim adjustor they assign you to, does very little. He did not call me to tell me any status of where we were at in our claim and the repairs with the auto body shop. There were times he didn't call me back. When I made comment of the lack of response, the claim adjustor, William (Bill) Wheeler was defensive and snarky. American Family Insurance also makes you call around to each department to figure out where you're at with diminished value, loss of use, and damages, so you have to call each one. The ONLY thing AFI did not fight us on with payment was loss of use, because we couldn't afford a rental and were pretty sure AFI was not going to be willing to pay for one. We went 9 weeks without a car because they were poor in returning calls to the auto body shop, sometimes for weeks at a time or just plumb didn't respond. They are difficult to deal with, their negotiations are a joke and their communication and timeliness are poor. We ended up having to spend $1300 out of pocket for a fender bender that they took full liability for. Do not expect for them to help you out if you are their client. They will nickel and dime you as much as possible. When I looked at the reviews for American Family Insurance, they are difficult to find. Their Facebook reviews are also riddled with bots. State Farm & Progressive are superior to this company by a longshot.

She doesn't seem to…read moreenjoy talking to people, hard to get ahold of her unless you cc James on the email and I waited almost 2 weeks for a call back on seeing if I can lower my rates before my payment was made. The answer was no, which takes a 5 min phone call. So that caused my account to accrue a balance when I could have went elsewhere and cancelled sooner. I let them know that I'm struggling financially and will pay the balance as soon as I can (2 months or less ago) and now I see that it went to collections. Just horrible customer service all around and I love my new agent so much. Complete 180!!
