Mood- Weird Stuff…read more Today was an exceptionally weird day. I went to work and wanted to see some stuff. So what better way to get that accomplished than to hop in the car and research. This Spider was fabricated out of galvanized steel by Deveren Farley in 2018. It weighs over a ton, and stands 17 feet tall. This sculpture was meant to get an emotional response from people that viewed it. The head is crafted out of Utah License plates while the belly has a stop sign on it. All of the license plates that were used came from the evidence department of the Salt Lake City PD. Originally this art installation was at Main Street in a traffic circle until a local exterminator Morgan Termite and Pest Control purchased it and changed the residence to in front of his business. Would def recommend - the thought that was put into this art installation is what drew me to come and enjoy it. Pricing is free as it is out of front of a business. What an amazing drive through the Virginia River Gorge. You are going to want to hit the gorge at…read morethe peak afternoon, when the sun is right about overhead. You will also want to be a bit selfish and not be the driver so you can completely enjoy the oohs and ahhs views. It is so strikingly beautiful that I -- the passenger through the pass -- wanted to turn around for a do-over. The Virgin River Gorge, located between St. George in Utah and the tiny town of Beaver Dam, Arizona. If you are heading in the direction of Utah, you are in luck, as there is a beautiful river that runs along Interstate 15. The canyon itself was carved out by the Virgin River. Moving through the canyon is a bit of a winding drive, and the rocks jet up, revealing steep, orange and burnt orange cliffs. Unfortunately, there is not a pullout as you are moving through the gorge -- and it is very enticing to want to stop. Given the speed with which people are driving and the winding road, it would not be safe to pull over for a look. Immediately after leaving the gorge, you can stop by the Virgin River Canyon Recreation Area. It is a camping and hiking area, with day-use ($2 per vehicle). The views looking back toward the gorge, though not as impressive, are gorgeous. And there is ample space to walk around, take a lunch and use the restrooms (which are flush toilets and kept clean). There is not easy access to the river from here, however if you have a short stop.

I really liked how close everything was. You have the shuttle stops nearby, restaurants, little shops, places to grab coffee or ice cream, and of course those beautiful Zion views all around you! Even just driving into Springdale felt special because the scenery is already so pretty before you even get into the park! Since we were only there for one night, I appreciated how convenient it was. We were able to settle in, explore Zion, do some of the easier trails, grab food, and still feel like we got a really good taste of the area! Springdale has such a nice, relaxed feel to it. It's touristy, of course, but in a charming way. After coming from Vegas, it felt like a totally different pace, quieter, scenic, and just really peaceful! I really enjoyed staying in Springdale. It made our Zion trip simple, beautiful, and memorable. For a first overnight visit from Las Vegas, it was the perfect and I'd absolutely come back again. I want to try some of the more difficult trails at Zion!

Bring a good car to do a little off-roading because the road can get a little rough on the way there. When you get there, there is no hiking required. You can see the crystals sparking right off the road! There is info on the place and info on the type of crystal you can find there in the front. It was cool to learn about the area. There is also a Venmo code and a prices list. You pay by the handful or the bucket. The kids loved walking around for the biggest crystal and looking at the giant crystal in the middle! Some of the crystals can be sharp so be careful! We cut ourselves a few times.

The hostess asked if we wanted a tour and we said no thank you, that we were in a hurry. She said she was willing to give us a super fat highlight only tour, which was great. We enjoyed the historical information we wouldn't have gotten otherwise. The building is very beautiful and has some interesting history. Definitely worth checking out.

The St. George Tabernacle is a lovely historic building that is open to the public and has free…read moretours. When you take a tour, you'll quickly learn that the tour guides are all volunteer service missionaries from the LDS (Mormon) church and are a wealth of knowledge on the history of the town, the architecture and, of course, the church. Plan about an hour for a good tour along with time for questions and to take pictures. The building itself is used for lots of events-devotionals, musical concerts, etc. My wife and I attended a gospel music concert here that was outstanding. The pews are all wood, so a little uncomfortable, but I appreciate the nod to the pioneers in keeping with the traditional furniture.
