Hello anxious parent! (I mean who else is going to read this review?)…read more You're probably checking Yelp because you're getting ready to decide where to send your little one for daycare/preschool/VPK. It's stressful, isn't it!? My son was in an in home daycare I loved from 12 weeks old but as he approached 4, I knew I was going to be faced with a very difficult decision. Where do I send him next? He has a September birthday so I wanted him to go to someplace I could count on for VPK eventually. But I also needed to feel confident in their leadership, the curriculum, and the facility itself. We toured many places and met with several directors but nothing felt "right" other than Ohana. Here are our reasons! 1. Location. For us, this is close to our house so my son doesn't spend an hour in the car each day. 2. Cost. Their tuition is very reasonable for the area! 3. Staff. Kara, the director, is super chill, has a masters degree, and just leaves you with the feeling that your kid will be in good hands. She was great during the tours and answered all of our questions. My son's teacher is also great. Ms. Amber is communicative, positive, loving, and helpful. 4. Curriculum. They provided me the info on their curriculum so I could do my own research. This was helpful as we chose between preschool because I knew what to expect educationally. 5. Facility. The preschool is CLEAN and cute! (I mean who doesn't love turtles!?) 6. Reasonable expectations. They are realistic about what to expect from kids behaviorally and developmentally. They don't call you for every little thing. They don't send your kid home because he sneezed twice. They get the woes of a working parent. 7. The extras. They have a provider come in to teach soccer (at an extra cost), they do school pictures, they do class birthday parties, they encourage parental involvement (reasonably), they have special theme days. They keep it fun! 8. 2 months in my son is SO HAPPY. He asks to go everyday. Even on days they're closed he wants to go to school. He loves his teacher. He's made friends. He's learning quickly. We definitely made the right choice! If you want more info or to ask more questions feel free to message me! Love, A no-longer-anxious-parent

Teachers are kind, but the uniform and dress code is absurd. Every five seconds, there is a teacher…read morecommenting on your hair, uniform, or even face. Sometimes, it seems they care more about dress code than the students' education. You shouldn't feel insecure every time you wear the uniforms. No fake nails, no mascara unless you're in 8th grade, maximum of 3 braclets (including hair ties), and you are not allowed to have more than 1 ear piercing. Let girls be girls. It feels like there are rules just to have rules and to seem strict. They also banned perfume and strong cologne. You are only allowed to go to your locker 4 times a day (including before and after school). They don't allow bringing food into school for lunch or breakfast ( including drinks). Kids shouldn't feel sexualized every time they put on a school uniform. Kids are starting to stop dressing out because of how strict the dress code is. The only things you can wear are a 6 inch shorts, sweatpants, and baggy jeans. Another thing is that they have useless classes. Technology shouldn't be a comp class and a normal class as well. Kids shouldn't feel stressed out because of a class that won't matter to them in 5 years. The bathroom rules are also strict, 1 student at a time. The teachers force you to use a planner, and they have to sign it every time you use the restroom, and you have to sign out on a sheet by the door as well. I feel like that is kind of extra giving that the bathroom is down the hall. The bathrooms don't have feminine products in the lady's room, which I feel is necessary. They don't have dividers in between the urinals in the boys' restroom, which is an invasion of privacy. You are not allowed to change for PE. Your shirt has to be tightly tucked in, and if it is not, you get a referral. If a boys hair touches their eyebrows, they have to get it cut within a week after the warning, or it leads with a demerit. Do you want every boy to have a buzzcut?! Overall, the education isn't bad. Just please let kids be kids. Not everyone is going to want to dress and look to your standards. Sorry to break it to you. I want students to feel comfortable in their school, if that means feminine products in the lady's room, or dividers between the urinals in the boys' room. Please take this into account and change some of the strict rules.

There are many Pros and Cons about this school as I'm sure there are with any school. Personally, we have had some ups and downs at this school that have left me feeling a bit off put by it. (But that was our personal exp) There is a mixture of teachers. Some are EXCELLENT! If you are lucky enough to get one of these thank your lucky stars. If not, hold on for a bumpy school year. The ones who really care about education and not just having a pay check are the ones that shine at this school. And sadly are not the ones usually recognized either. The office staff for the most part are wonderful! There are a few you'd like to bop on the head. Mostly helpful and polite. There is usually a volunteer in the front office helping out as well. There is a full time nurse in site who takes care of everything medically related. The school is clean, like any place in Florida there are bugs but not from dirt. They repaint it the same ole boring colours of cream and turquoise. But the district only allows for a choice between two colours. There is a gym/cafeteria/auditorium. There is a huge back PE area. Field, court and playground. All is fenced in and locked up when school is in. The only way you can get in is through the front office with an ID in hand. There is a library, which is always in need of gently used books. There is a media center and a computer lab. There is no pre-school offered but there are special needs ISD classes. Limited parking in three lots. One of them is mainly teacher parking off to the side of the school. One of front and one in the back by the car circle. You can come have lunch with your kiddo which is pretty cool and they are always looking for volunteers for various things.
