Wasena Park is a big multipurpose park in a Roanoke subdivision called Wasena, and one of many that Roanoke River Greenway runs through (Smith Park is just to the east of Wasena Park). Roanoke River Greenway, in turn, is one of almost a dozen Roanoke Valley Greenways, and extends over many miles of paved trails. The park has several entry points along Wiley Drive SW with plenty of parking spaces to accommodate the locals and visitors here to enjoy what the park has to offer: the skate park is a clever use of bridge bases (pictured); the baseball and basketball courts seem popular and are often nicely crowded; several picnic areas have tables, bench seats, water fountains, and more; and the children's playgrounds are usually filled with little ones. Pleasant, pretty quiet park in Roanoke that has trails for walking, jogging, biking whatever is a nice place to come for a peaceful hike. Located along the Roanoke river, there is some nice scenery to make it more enjoyable. Nice park to come when it's not too humid and recommended. read more

Came from out of town for a family reunion and the local Muslim community that we found was having Eid prayers there. The park is lovely, lots of space for a variety of activities and events. However the bikers that were there were a little rude. You see there's a big event with lots of kids, why be mad. read more

Beautiful park with lots of trees for shade on a hot day. We came for a community event and took photos by the abandoned train tracks. There is ample parking in the large lot. Beware the cyclists, some are quite rude. read more

I took my two sons (10 and 13 years old) here for the first time this afternoon. My first impressions are that this is a nice quiet spot to spend an afternoon and that it's cool under the pavilion in the shade at least partially due to the park's proximity to the river. The Wiley Street parking lot is near a play area that would be good for younger children. My boys were too old to play there. Also, there is a swing set here that has only two swings, one of which is a regular swing and one is a baby/toddler swing, so the boys couldn't swing together, and one of them felt left out. The women's bathroom was very clean and well stocked with toilet paper, but it did not have a door on the stall area, and there was no way to lock the door from the inside. The water fountain was in working order, so that's a plus. There's a cool wooden bridge here that you can walk across and that would make a good backdrop for a photo. It really is peaceful here. Next time, I'll bring my son's bike for him and a book for me! read more
