This place is okay. The cafe/bar itself is nothing special, but open later than all the other ones I know in Gent. Some people actually go just for that; i.e. without doing laundry. Not me, the real reason to go here is because you can hang out in a cafe while doing your laundry without having to change shops. It's a brilliant idea to combine something that requires waiting a long time with something people do for a long time anyway Well, it's not so brilliant, it's actually really obvious, but not enough places actually do it. So I give Wasbar points for that. Although one reason NOT to combine these is that all the washing and drying makes the place super hot, humid, and stink of various detergents.
The laundry aspect of the place sucks. The washing machines take a very long time, they are expensive, and the place is crowded, so it's hard to get access. The dryers are those horrible Belgian kind that don't actually dry your clothes and instead just have them rolling around in hot damp air for an hour so they come out hot, moist, and wrinkled. And don't mix darks and lights in the dryer either, because it's hot and moist enough in the DRYER for the colors to bleed across garments. Why are those things even called dryers?
So the bottom line is that if you come here to do your laundry, you should expect that it will take 3 hours, cost 12 Euro (for two loads + drink), and your clothes will not come out nice...with a high probability that some will be completely ruined forever. read more
