Even though the lettering all over it is so in your face. I stopped in for a quick browse but it turned into the long kind. I had a serious gasp when I found a spectacular Andy Warhol that I had never seen before and lingered over it perhaps more than I should since I wasn't in that price range today. Although the price was in line for the value. I chatted with Jessie and he was very down to earth with great stories about Warhol. I was impressed with the well curated pieces that did not disappoint based on the artist names screaming from their exterior wall. I did fall in love with a piece that was not right for my home, but considered it. An incredible piece of mirrored artistry that ever so slightly resembled a matador, if you knew how to look at it. Gah...still thinking about it. Please, if you love art and are not shy with investing in it, do stop by. You won't be hounded by salespeople, but if you wish to engage you will gain in education about the works you are fascinated by and the artists who borne them.

A kind, gentle man, Steve runs the gallery and we spent quite a bit of time chatting with him to learn about Nat and his art. I love everything mid-century modern vibe and you can't help but smile when gazing on the whimsy and color of Nat's art. I couldn't leave without something and ended up with a gorgeous tile to memorialize our stop. I would decorate my entire house with this art lol and am already looking where I can inject the joy the exudes from Nat Reed's pieces. I believe Big Mike is the finest painter of contemporary art in the desert. (He's also a very nice…read moreguy). I say this as a lifelong art, educator and artist. When I was a child, I discovered the work of Chilean surrealist Roberto Matta. Decades later, he remains a huge inspiration to me. The first time I went to Big Mike Art three or four years ago, I was amazed at the quality of the work. Abstract surrealism interests me a lot more than the sometimes Kitchie dreamy surrealism. This is a very large gallery, owned by big Mike, not far from the Palm Springs Art Museum. The first time I met him I asked, where is your studio, and he said right here. He's there five days a week painting, and he does it all on an easel near the front window.

The gallery owner (Steven Janssen) was really friendly and knew a lot about the art and the background of the artist. He happens to also be an artist and features some of his own work at the gallery. What I really like about the gallery is that there is a new show every month or so but also, there is a backroom gallery that has a great selection of art with a wide range of pricing. You can basically find great pieces at whatever budget you might have. I have purchased a few paintings and just recently a great sculpture. Definitely worth dropping by if you find yourself in PS!

When in Palm Springs they will always stop by his store/gallery, The Shag Store. If we are with them, we'll go also. We're not quiet the fans they are but we do enjoy his art, and we like to browse the store. On this occasion Shag himself was at the store. He was hosting a free cocktail party and meet and greet for anyone who stopped in. He was signing any pieces that fans brought in or bought. Our friends didn't bring anything, but they did purchase something and had him sign it so that was cool for them. Becky and I wandered around the store and took in the artwork while our friends enjoyed their meet and greet with Shag. I highly recommend The Shag Store when in Palm Springs. Even if you're not an "artsy" person, it's a rad spot. Check it out!

His work showcases a powerhouse of design, humor, elegance and edginess that you rarely get to see displayed in local galleries. Ive gone in there so many times and I have never come out empty handed. It's the perfect place to shop for that odd friend you'd like to push the envelope with and find an ornate gift that you will talk about for decades. This is your destination! Over the past year, i've bought everything from custom made vanity plates, tree ornaments to decorative journals. His humor is broadcast in his work and it's refreshing to see daring quotes, photos and hand sculpted items! There are two sides to the gallery, one is smaller with a more gifty/retail vibe and the second side is larger slightly more robust with the full on slam glam experience of his artistry. Just walk in, he'll introduce himself, you'll laugh a little and when you go to leave, i'm sure you won't forget his name! It's a safe bet you will even pic up a little something even if it's inappropriate guest room vanity plate! He is an artist that will stand out for decades!

And nope, we ain't taking Bieber with us even if the front sign says so. Love the bright dead baby heads and colourful powder coated silver serving trays, too. Can't wait to return to buy more.
