However, they had blueberries ready for purchase. It was $15 for a bunch. I bought it. They told me, they don't spray pesticides on it and it was ready to eat. For the corn, it will be ready around September. I wish I can come back and purchase sweet corn and other produce. I like purchasing from local farmers. I know where the food comes from and help them with their small business.

We discovered Heartland Farm Sanctuary in early 2018 and have been fans and supporters ever since…read more Heartland was the first farm sanctuary in Wisconsin and still is the largest in the state. But what makes Heartland stand out is that in addition to love and effort they devote to the homeless farm animals they rescue, the sanctuary also works with youth who are at risk or have special needs. Heartland Farm Sanctuary creates an environment where youth and the rescued animals can "come together to heal, grow, and have fun" (quoted from Heartland). The environment at Heartland Farm Sanctuary is truly different from what you would experience at a traditional working farm (or for that matter, just reading or hearing about animals). I think of my visits to Heartland as something of a Zen experience -- that setting is part of why children can so effectively learn how to interact with animals in a humane fashion. Heartland offers public tours on most weekends from Spring through Fall. There also are week-long summer camps for kids. The animal residents change over time as new rescues arrive (and unfortunately as some older animals pass away). Current residents include donkeys, a miniature horse (Cookie), emus, cows (Beau and Daisy), goats, lamas, turkeys, chickens, geese, ducks, pigs, sheep, and more. The sanctuary also includes two cats (Poppy and Otto) that keep an eye on everything. If you have kids, Heartland Farm Sanctuary is a fantastic place for them to interact with animals and in turn learn in ways that are not possible in the classroom or from watching TV.

To get your wine, you go to the bar, get a special card, and stick it in the machine. Then, you decide if you want a taste, half pour, or full pour. You click the button, put your glass under machine, and then enjoy the wine! Its super easy because it keeps track of amount you owe and you can pay it all at the end. There are little signs with descriptions and backstories on each wine in the machine. It's a great way to try a bunch of different wines at your own pace. It's really nice to be able to go straight to machine and get the wine whenever you're ready for it! They always have a great selection of wines to choose from as well. If you're not a wine drinker, they also serve whiskey, bottles or cans of beer, and N/A options. For food, they serve a variety of charcuterie boards and pizzas. I've never eaten any of the food there but it always looks delicious! The vibe inside is really nice and the space is really clean. For seating, you can sit downstairs, in the upstairs loft, or outside on their spacious patio. All options are great but I definitely prefer the patio in the summer! The service is always wonderful as well! The workers are knowledgeable and really friendly. Last time I was there, I met the owners, Mike and Kari. They were really friendly and told my husband and I the story of how Red & White began. They were lovely! My husband and I are already regulars so we'll continue to go back. The bartender pulled a few for me to pick from and was knowledgeable about each of the brands. I ended up finding two new tequilas I really loved. There's plenty of seating inside at the wine barrel tables, or their long bar. They also have an outside patio area in back if you want fresh air. The place is very clean and I like how it's decorated with unique Wisconsin items. They don't have a food menu but you can order a Lotsa Mozza pizza, or can carry in from anywhere.

The one issue is that being mid-July and held on asphalt streets, it was scorching HOT. The benefit to being near the Capitol building is that it is open so you can go inside and cool off, use the restroom etc (though the ingress/egress was ridiculously inaccessible, which for a government building is just nonsense.) Given how hot Midwestern summers now are, perhaps consider shifting the schedule.

AFOS is basically an outdoor event where artists from all styles show their work and hope to sell some so they display and show it all off.
