Joshua's…read more This is one of the vanishing breed of ironmongers Even the word 'Ironmonger' Is slowly falling into disuse due to the advent of the DIY supermarket Joshua's has however has retained most of the advantages of the small shop There is always a helpful lady or gentleman behind the counter who really know their business. For example I have a hand stapler that uses Non standard size staples. I was not able to obtain these in either of the Main DIY supermarkets (when I was able to find someone to help.) They recommended that I purchased a new stapler as this particular size of staple was no longer manufactured . As a last resort I tried Joshua's and sure enough the gentleman behind the counter produced the necessary staples in about 30 seconds flat. This illustrates the value of the traditional Ironmongers, who really know their trade and of which Joshua's in a prime example. For small items which the DIY supermarkets are not always stocked its a good bet that Joshua's will rather have them or will order them for you. Take a can along and they will fill it with paraffin in the quantity you want rather than having to buy a gallon( which you don't want) in the DIY Supermarkets. .It is difficult to imagine any ironmongery item which Joshua's do not stock .If you find it difficult to describe then Joshua's will let you wonder though the shop looking at the items on the shelves. Many items are priced cheaper than the supermarkets. The only down side is that there is no car park and you have to park on the street although I have never found any difficulty. If after shopping you are in need of refreshment then the ' Otley' is close at hand !

There's a little bit of everything here, even items I've never seen before, like a Cosmopolitan (the magazine) Drink Fountain for £14.99. You can find vacuum cleaners, hair dryers, and fabric dye here as well. I was surprised how many items could fit in such a small shop; there isn't much rhyme or reason to the setup here, but I've found many hardware stores are like that, so I suppose that's just part of the charm. The gentleman working behind the counter was friendly and happy to let me browse - set aside some time because you're gonna need it!

The hardware and DIY shop offers something that very few other shops do these days, they offer a one to one service. Their staff are friendly and knowledgeable and are more than likely to crack a good humoured joke or two. They don't have a website because they just have too many varieties of things to list. To give you a picture they stock 11 types of florescent tube and 80 different types of light-bulb. This isn't spatially a huge shop, but they manage to fit a massive amount in...In fact their stock is so extensive that it spills out onto the street, tin baths, bonfire bins, compost and more are stacked by and even hung up on the wall outside. ...Oh and they are extremely reasonably priced. Even that slightly sawdust scent that goes with hardware stores. Now, this store does not carry the reputation of two that I have reviewed before. But if I lived in Wimborne, I'd be a happy camper. Collandars, graters, knives, tupperware, caddies, drainers, cookwareand then hammers, nails, screws, and thingummies. They also do garden furniture, indeed, there was a very rustic looking one on display outside. I really could have spent ages snooping around, but hey ho, time is the master of our lives. No fifth star because there seems nowher to park, so how are you going to lug your goods to the car?

If there is a bolt or screw missing from when you make something you are sure to find a replacement here. I think you can also get your keys cut which here which is good. Around the shop they have other things you will need for your home like: plates, bathroom items, storage containers and lots more. The staff are very friendly and if you are struggling to find something then they will take you straight to it.

I was trying to put up some blinds in my bedroom, but needed to cut them to size . Being a bit helpless in these matters, I ended up going over the road to this place for a saw of some kind. The guy in the shop was lovely, and when I told him what I was attempting to do he offered to cut it to size for me - so off I went back to my flat to get the blinds, which he then sorted out for me. Talk about customer service! I'd highly recommend this little independent shop over the bigger chains such as B&Q, where the staff are often elusive, dismissive and indifferent. Here you get a personal service with a genuine smile!

They are no more expensive than the big DIY shops and the staff are very informative and knowledgeable. You can buy pretty much anything here and you can also receive lots of expert knowledge about lots of aspects of household care, DIY etc. Support your local ironmonger, it would be a real shame if shops like these succombed to the big global giants.
