He hunts every December in Potter, and one of his hunting buddies apparently likes to stop at Unkel Joe's to do his Christmas shopping. I had no idea until looking it up online just now that it is actually a chain - a chain that they seriously need to expand down to Delco. If I'd been prepared, I would have done some of my Christmas shopping as well... So many things to choose from for the kitchen and home, gifts, Christmas stuff, hardware type stuff, the list goes on. Luckily their merchandise is available online, which isn't quite as nice as perusing the store, but hey, I might get to do some Christmas shopping there after all!

The best way I can describe Unkel Joe's is the kind of "general store" that is nearly non-existent these days. Unkel Joe's doesn't carry food (I think) but has all kinds of other interesting stuff: kitchen items, general housewares, fishing equipment, holiday decorations, model railroad supplies, and all kinds of other stuff. Prices are reasonable and everything I've bought there has been of good quality. The staff are always friendly and welcoming. If you're in the Lock Haven area you should definitely stop into Unkel Joe's for a unique and fun experience.

I came here, one, because I was in the area; two, because why not. I walked in with just one thing on my mind and ended up walking out with several other things that I did not intend to buy at all. Your simple Target twist in effect. The store itself was clean, well lit and organized. When it came to finding help, it was sparse. I walked around for several minutes until I found the area I needed to be in. And when I finally did get to that point I found multiple employees clustered there, ironic, just a bit. Speaking of the employees, they aren't always the kindest people to deal with. But it is retail and I know all too well how that can go when working retail.

Others call it theft) for themselves to develop this and future stores. So now when we buy something at Rural King, we not only pay a price on goods which includes operating expenses, and company profit, but we get charged extra to pay for some future non existent store at some unknown location which may or may not ever open and that we will never shop in. No thanks. I left without making a purchase and don't plan to return as long as they steal from their customers.

I asked for the manager and when she came over she told me that the prices on ALL THE BOOTS in the store was WRONG! She could not give me the boots for the advertised price. When I got home I followed up and talked to another manager and he said something was not right about the way I was treated and agreed to help me out. That was about 2 weeks ago and after talking to him several times, he promised me to make things right. As of today, two weeks later nothing had been done! I even emailed Corporate and they never replied! Not a good experience. They don't seem to care about either their customers or the accuracy of their boot prices!

Be aware you need to check the expiration dates of food items before you buy. There is a fresh produce, cheese and meats sections. Also a ton of frozen and canned goods, paper products and the like. This is a really cute store, but is big enough to have lots of departments. It reminds me of the Woolworth's stores that I remember as a kid. It's big, no doubt, and has lots of items, but it does not have that impersonal, corporate feel of a super Wal-Mart. There are real people at the counter, who have real things to say (not off a script) and who are actually nice. They have toys, housewares, arts and crafts (which comprises a fairly large section of the store), small appliances, and even a 'dollar store' section in the back. And, prices are pretty low, which is surprising. Beiter's may be a chain in the PA area (I think there is more than one store) but it has not lost that real American feel of a good ole general store. Stop by next time you need something and don't want to wait on line, you'll be glad you did.
