I was warmly greeted on an equally warm June morning by both the store clerk and the fabulous smells of goat milk soaps, lotions, sugar scrubs and more. The black and white interior had a mix of country farmhouse charm and the clean lines of modern design mixing the old and new. The friendly, helpful clerk (I am at fault for not remembering her name) shared that the goat milk is locally sourced and made in the back portion of the shop--no wonder it smells soooooo good! Products were displayed by scent and customers were encouraged to smell the soap bars and not open jars. (it is sad that we need signs) In each displayed scent customers find lotion, bar soap, liquid soap, and sugar scrub. A small jar of lotion was $4 and I especially liked the orange and oatmeal honey. Ample free parking is available both on the street and around the corner in a small parking lot. The bonus of using the parking lot is its proximity to a kettle corn shop--it was closed when we arrived but I snagged three bags of corn on my way back to the car. Between the great smelling soap purchases and popcorn, the car smelled fabulous on the drive home! I may or may not have eaten a bag of popcorn on the way home.

Decided to drive to Beatrice have lunch and check out the store and the sales they had advertised. The store is in an old shopping mall, with other stores interspersed. Electronics and appliances in the north side. (Where the sales lady hovered 5 feet away, and every time I would look at something, she would attempt to make a comment about the item. Shoo, go away...) The Close outs in the far south side of the building in an old discount store. No one was there. The main furniture store was in the old kMart. Again, like a used car salesman, a salesperson was on our heels again. Tell them I'm looking for a 3/4 firm queen size bed. She says, here just the one for you and points me to a 3/4 soft bed. Had no idea of firmness or construction of beds. Finally found one that might work. Took her 10-15 minutes to get a price. Asked her to write the model down and I was going to lunch. Salesperson started to fill out a sales form, asked for my name (OK) and then my address (???). Inquired why, and the response was the sales document, WTF? In regards to the other furniture, I seems to be of good quality and at a reasonable price. Needless to say, I left without making a purchase. The biggest turn offs were the hovering and lack of knowledge of the salespeople.

She also offered her help in case we found something that "almost" worked but needed more work. We found a pair a few blocks away and returned to Patty where she proceeded to paint the shoes to look old FOR us. She was SO kind! Since they were found and being worked on, we were able to take our time perusing the shop and buy some Christmas presents. Besides the well-organized thrift part in the back, the front of her store has unique gifts for the people on your list. From interesting bath and beauty products to decorations to jewelry to coffee to natural laundry detergent, there was intrigue and quality at every turn. Stop in when you're in Fairbury!

I wait in line for 15 minutes. No big deal, she's busy, I get it. Then the girl comes, takes my script punches it her into computer, answers two phone calls, puts them on hold, mutters I'm never going to get to lunch, and says this won't be ready for 45 minutes. We close in three minutes so I can go to lunch and then I can fill it. I said I don't live here. She says 2:15. Ridiculous. This is exactly why I don't use Walmart pharmacy anymore. She plans for it to take 15 minutes, but I have to wait in line for 15 minutes then spend 10 minutes giving her my script, then come back in 45 minutes. So I have now will have over an hour invested in a medicine for my sick kid who by the way is sitting in the car. I know she needs lunch, but it's not my fault that she's alone. #Epicfailwalmart. #thisisthereasonpeoplehatewalmart
