Staff is friendly and helpful. On a visit today though, I did note a problem that management should address. The line was long at check out, not because of a lack of personnel but because of time lost dealing with the credit/debit card readers. Many in line had trouble with their cards being read, with all being eventually accepted, but only after repeatedly swiping, tapping, chip reading, etc. Perhaps an update of hardware or software is needed?

Big Lots is a great place to find deals…read more Because there are deals to be had, they are frequently out of stock on popular items. On my most recent trip I was looking for some outdoorsy things. Big Lots had an excellent selection of outdoor furniture and awnings for very reasonable prices. I picked up a 9 foot umbrella for $35. It is very well made and was marked down from $50. Unfortunately they were out of bases. The selection isn't as good as a Home Depot, but their prices seemed much better. The employees weren't overly helpful, but I guess you can't have everything. If you're in the market for outdoor products, I recommend this location.

I found an item I liked that said it was part of a set but one of the pieces was missing, I proceeded to the register to pay and asked if the price would be different since half of it was missing and a nearby worker assured me it would. however the cashier I got refused to answer me when I asked her about it several times and did not adjust the price. she was very unfriendly and merely stared at me until I payed and left.... later on I went to Slidell location and was double charged for a shirt I bought for my husband that I didn't notice until I got home. I called the store to verify if I needed to come all the way back to Slidell to correct this and was told I could go to any location as long as I brought the items and reciept with me. After going to mandeville location earlier and having issues I didn't really want to return there but it's so much closer to my home so I did anyways. upon entry I asked a woman that was by the door if i was in the right place for this and she very gruffly said ' there's one line for everything' after ignoring my attempts to get her attention for several minutes. after waiting in line and getting to the register I noticed she had been watching me with a sour expression on her face the whole time I was in line. and once I got the the register she was glaring at me and rushed over to stop the employees from helping me with my refund. Having realized she was the manager I asked why she stopped them and was told they need to see the digital reciept ... I had already given the paper one and the items and asked why and was told that she needed to see the cameras before issuing the refund. she was incredibly rude about this whole process and completely unprofessional! she was scolding employees in font of customers and you could tell they were so uncomfortable!! they were just doing their job! it's so sad to see workers treated so badly and that the company doesn't care enough to get management that cares about the customers at all! I will also note that the woman in front of me in line had a similar issue and this terrible woman didn't even glance her way! I was merely singled out because I asked her if i was in the right line! will not be returning!!

I'd try not shopping here, but I'm weak for soda and this is the only place I can get a 2-liter for a buck. I did get lucky and found jalapenos on the shelf, but this was the first time in the last 4 visits there were any available. It's our own fault, I know; the drive to save a penny for the consumer means cost-cutting everywhere except for the shareholders. Still, there are some friendly and helpful folks, and the store is clean and well-lit, and always an adventure - the layout seems like it constantly changes, and I took a long stroll until I finally found the al-you-mini-um ferl. First, browsing the (ever diminishing) fishing section, I noticed that approx half of the rods and reels were either missing the reel handle or HALF THE WHOLE ROD. Upon asking an assistant, they informed me they were still full price, would not mark down, and that they "throw the extra parts away". Now that it was evident I wasn't hitting the water, I moseyed over the electronics to pick up an Xbox controller. Where on the app, it says 53.99 and in store listed at 64. Asked the "assistant" and was told "I'll give it to you for whatever it rings up as" and promptly dismissed me to continue gossip with a coworker. After this hour long ordeal, I've done nothing but wasted time and lost all hope in Walmart. But at least I didn't spend the money!

I stopped by Ollie's Bargain Outlet on an errand for a few odds and ends and found what I needed…read more Ollie's advertises "Good stuff, cheap!" and they are a good spot for a wide variety of things, including some groceries and snacks, housewares, kitchen product, simple hardware, toys, furniture, throw rugs, paper products, etc, etc., etc. it's hard to be a regular shopper here, as their stock varies greatly from week to week, but that may be part of the store's charm. The thrill of making an unexpected find is much of the allure.

There are also men and women's clothing. Most of the clothing is name brands, but for significantly less than most department stores. This shopping center gets very crowded, so come early. She offered me to drive my car in front of the store so I wouldn't have to walk to far with their tiny bags. When I came back to pick up the items and walk them to my car, Laura, who happened to by the general manager helped carry my bags to my car. I was so relived and very satisfied. The store is always clean and organized. There's a great selection of items from various departments. I really enjoy shopping here.

Sadly, I learned that each store or a small group of stores have different buyers which pick what the store carries. I went to the Marshall's in Covington as it is the only one around and it was very dirty, the towels I bought I had to return because they fell apart after one washing even though they were a top brand, so that was odd and the customer service, including the management, was awful. In a recent visit, I was attempting to buy replacement towels for the ones the fell apart, a small colander, and some other household items. I was at the store with a friend and her teenage daughter. They checked out ahead of me. When I went to check out, I was "helped" by a robust young lady named "Diamond." Her name did not match her attitude and overall demeanor. On one of the items I planned to purchase, the barcode would not read. I told Diamond to not bother I would skip it as I had two other people waiting on me and I was in a hurry. The manager, who was very rude and would not listen to me, overheard, and stated she would just go grab another one with a better tag. I stated to the manager, "I am in a hurry please don't bother," but she ignored my instructions and stated she would go grab one anyway. When she returned, she had been unable to find the exact item, delayed me from buying the other items I was going to purchase, then began to complain about how overwhelmed she was because it was busy and she didn't know what to do. Clearly, this "manager" is not a good fit for being a manager. If a line of about 10 people in a small retail store overwhelms you, this is not your calling. It's not rocket science. Diamond then grabbed the item the manager handed to me and threw it down on a shelf while rolling her eyes at the manager and me and grunting loudly. I stated she that she should have just listened to me in the first place and could she just please ring up my items so I could go. Diamond then grabbed the towels and shook them and stated to me, "do you want these or not", while rolling her eyes and smacking her gum in my face. I told her to keep them. On principal, I can't shop here. I then asked her what her name was, and she got about 6 inches from my face, shoved her name tag at me, and grunted "it's, uh, it's Diamond" while rolling her eyes again. Other than the horrible customer service the selection is limited, nothing is organized, tags are missing on items and it is not very clean as compared to other locations. I will never shop here again.
