This family run hostel has all the basic ingredients for a pleasant stay. It opened just a few month ago, but already they got everything on track. Friendly and accurate communication through e-mail, warm and welcoming staff, and a fine breakfast provided by the mother. The lobby is a nice place, with tables as well as comfortable sofa's. A nice place for one last drink before you drag yourself to your bed. The rooms can be reached through a different entrance.
Don't expect a luxury suite though, the concept of this hostel is minimalistic. Our private ensuite room had a large industrial slide-open window, a rough concrete ceiling, one photograph on the wall and just one lightbulb, hanging straight in front of the photograph. We had two small stools and two modest locker-style closets. The ensuite bathroom was clean, had a good shower, a washstand and toilet (and a light, of course). Comfy beds. The common bathroom facilities also looked clean and sufficient. There was an elevator to get to our floor.
The hostel is located in the Moabit locality in West-Berlin, the wall ran right past it. Although the neighbourhood in itself isn't that exciting, its location gives you plenty of opportunities to explore the city. There's a high frequency bus service that takes you to (and from) Hauptbahnhof in just one stop and also runs from and to Tegel Airport. Also you can take metro U9 (located in 3 min walking distance) which will take you to the Zoölogischer Garten bahnhof in 5 minutes, and at nighttime you can still reach the hostel in a 10 minute walk from S-bahn station Bellevue, the S-bahn runs all night from locations as Alexanderplatz etc.
All in all: good value for money. If you don't have a specific area in Berlin you want to be per sé, this is a hostel where you can pretty much risk-free book your stay. Enjoy! read more
