Pink Cadillac is a clothes and accessories shop, focusing on women's clothing and all those fun girlie accessories, with lovely designer names attached to them. I first fell in love with Pink Cadillac when I spotted various Paul Frank items grinning at me and begging me to purchase them. Once upon a time there were two Pink Cadillac stores within walking distance of each other in Huddersfield town centre. Now just the Market Walk store remains open, but they are both owned by the same lady.
The shop window is rather enticing, with spangly glitzy watches, fabulous handbags, and boutique style clothing. Walking into Pink Cadillac is a bit of a harrowing experience, the shop floor layout could be better, as if there are more than five people in the shop, and then staff, everything is really overcrowded and bit frustrating.
Speaking of staff...I don't think I've encountered such a solid set of rude staff in my entire retail experience. Bending over at the watch cabinet, one lass actually pushed her way past me and used my back as leverage to get herself through the small gap between displays. Rude much?
They also make a habit of not at all discreetly following you around to make sure you're not pocketing the goods. Questions anyone? Short, snappy and often unhelpful answers.
The goods? Well there's been plenty of rumours surrounding the content of the merchandise in this store, but we won't delve into that, only what I have experienced. I've had three t-shirt/tops from here that once they saw the inside of my washing machine decided to fray at the seams. None of my other wash items did this, so I took one back to the store, receipt in hand, only to be given a complete dressing down by first the assistant on tills, and then by the owner. Don't worry she got a gobfull back. She flew off the handle about my inadequacies at washing my own clothes. After about 30 minutes of solid debating, or arguing, the issue was resolved.
Separate occasion, lawd. Went in to buy a gift for a friend. It was a joint gift, so a friend and I went in, picked a cardigan and a t-shirt, got a receipt, and out we went. The t-shirt was fine, but the cardigan was bizarrely a duplicate. We went back, cardigan as immaculate as the day it was bought, wanting to return the item, nothing caught our fancy and we decided on a money refund. That's when the fun started. Out flies the owner blood pressure through the roof stating that in no way was a refund to be given. Pink Cadillac doesn't do refunds. It's not legally obliged to do them, so it doesn't. There's nothing wrong with the cardigan. Nope it is simply not happening. Response, that I agree, a business isn't obliged to provide refunds on purchases ONLY IF IT IS CLEARLY STATED WITHIN A REASONABLE DISTANCE FROM THE CUSTOMER AT THE TIME OF PURCHASE. Otherwise that little excuse is void. At the time, there were no signs, and no staff had informed us otherwise. Cough over the money woman! Another slanging match ensued and eventually I won again. Small calling forth of legal training helped, and I have sworn a solemn oath to God I will never go in that place ever again.
