Aww, my old alma mater... I think that's what that word means. Oops, I'm bad advertising…read more Anyway, this is an acceptable little community college, right on the edge of Freeport. They have a wide range of programs/degrees, from theater to science to technology. As far as I know they still don't offer bachelor's degrees, so associate's is as good as you're going to get, but they do offer plenty of vocational degrees, like autobody, cosmetology, and CNA. Classes are generally small, although there are a few lecture halls. The professors are usually real people, who genuinely want you to succeed in their classes, and will actually help you to do so. Of course, there are always some who just have their own agenda and want to spread their own opinions instead of teach (I won't name names), but most of the professors I had were somewhat passionate about their field, which definitely helps a person to learn from them. The funny thing is, a lot of people look at Highland as an extension of high school, and I can't say I disagree, but I would tweak it a bit and say it's a good prep school. It's a solid choice if you're trying to transition from high school to a university or even to real life.
