Disappointed. I went to Chris for assistance with a serious financial issue concerning debt and…read morethe IRS. Had my initial consultation and he said he could help. Retained Chris. The bankruptcy process was long and arduous. Not a great deal of communication between us during to process. We started it in March and in July our paperwork was filed with the court. Okay so far, nothing really bad going on. Except, it was revealed to me that he himself was in bankruptcy for very much the same reason we were. That was until we had our initial hearing with the bankruptcy court. My debt was over the debt ceiling for the State of Oregon. Isn't this something that a bankruptcy attorney should know? Of course it is. After the hearing, our calls were not taken and only an email showed up. Need to research the problem. That is it. Meeting with him a week later, it was explained that he knew the debt ceiling and was hoping that the bankruptcy trustee would overlook the amount of debt I had since he slid another client through who exceeded the debt ceiling. My case was nothing but a gamble for him. He was rolling the dice with my financial future, my house and my life. I was then told after liens we placed on my house to come back and we could move forward. Fast forward. Contacted Chris. Provided a lien report for my home and. my current pay information. Weeks went by. Nothing. Followed up. Was told that he had not been able to get to it. Followed up again and this time, was kicked to the curb. Was told that he wouldn't be able to get to me for several weeks and that he was swamped with other work. I had hoped that after the massive fuck up with the filing of my case and the debit ceiling we ran into that our case might have gotten a little more attention. I now have a bankruptcy on my credit, having to. try to recover from the devastating credit advice, and still have issues with the IRS and liens on my house and no relief to show for it. DO NOT USE THIS ATTORNEY.

I hesitated on filling mostly due to cost and fear that it just wouldn't help me enough. Chris was incredibly helpful explaining things to me, he stuck by me for months while I was asking questions, before I even filed. Finally when I was ready to file he made it VERY affordable and guided me along the way with each and every step. I would recommend anyone who is considering a Bk to see him, he will not pressure you and is very good at what he does. The level of attention he provides is also phenomenal. Some of these lawyers you can never get a hold of, he responds to me same day almost every single time. Thank you Chris for helping me get my life back. omid

One-Star Review: Advice Was Factually Incorrect and Costly…read more I hired Troy Pickard for a one-hour consultation regarding a complex Oregon landlord-tenant case involving illegal lease termination charges and corporate retaliation (ORS 90.385). I provided him with extensive documentation, including emails, payment portal screenshots, and the landlord's illegal waiver forms, well in advance of the appointment. The consultation was highly disappointing and a waste of the $350 fee: Poor Professionalism: The attorney was ten minutes late for the scheduled call, cutting into the paid hour. Did Not Review Evidence: It was immediately clear the attorney had not reviewed the detailed evidence I sent. Factually Incorrect Advice: Despite my evidence proving the landlord retaliated (charging me a fee after I refused to sign an illegal contract), the attorney focused entirely on a non-existent threat of a landlord counterclaim. He incorrectly stated that my lease termination was "unlawful" because it was sent by email and advised me that the landlord would successfully counter-sue me for "abandonment." Advocated Against My Best Interest: Based on this flawed analysis, he strongly advised me to settle for a "Mutual Release of Claims." This advice would have forced me to sign away my legal right to pursue the mandatory ORS 90.385 statutory fine for retaliation, which is the core of my claim. I rejected his advice, trusted my own legal research, and pursued the retaliation penalty myself. My strategy is now pressuring the corporate President for a settlement. If you have a complex case involving ORS 90.385 (retaliation) or illegal waivers (ORS 90.245), be very cautious. His advice would have cost me over $20,000 in mandatory penalties I was entitled to recover. UPDATE: Response to Attorney's Public Comment Mr. Pickard, I appreciate your quick response and acknowledge that landlord-tenant law is technical. However, my issue was not simply disliking your advice; it was that your analysis failed to account for a critical, non-technical financial reality of my case. The "little detail" you missed was the mandatory statutory penalty triggered by the landlord's retaliation (charging a fee after I refused to sign their illegal waiver, a violation of ORS 90.385). The law requires this penalty to be 2x my actual damages, creating a significant, five-figure liability for the landlord. Your "expert" advice was to ignore this massive financial liability and accept a "Mutual Release of Claims," which would have forced me to sign away my legal right to recover that mandatory penalty. You advised me to forfeit this significant recovery based on a weak, easily defeated defense argument (abandonment) that the landlord never even pursued. My review stands: the advice was factually incorrect and financially dangerous for the client.
