Try the traditional Welsh cowl at the castle cafe located before the climb to the castle. 2. Be sure to go all the way down to the natural cave. You'll find the entrance in the main courtyard of the castle. It can get dark and slippery down there but it's still very atmospheric! 3. Take a camera.

We had no idea just how beautiful this area was going to be. So many hills and valleys, so many beautiful sights everywhere we looked. We planned to walk around the castle here but were blown away by the situation. You have to see it to believe it. I joked that the carpark is probably the most beautiful one in the world and my company agreed. Loos in carpark. There is a shop, gallery and cafe just beyond the carpark. There are two walks marked out here, the yellow is shorter and the longer one is marked in red. However, for the time being, the red one is out of bounds while they fix the bridge. But the yellow marked route was intensely beautiful and we look forward to the longer route opening in February 2010. We'll be bringing our friends here! There is also a longer route to be found in 'AA 50 walks in Brecon Beacons & South Wales'. The castle itself can be viewed at the end of these walks and there is a cave as well (torch £1.50 deposit).

It's a safe family beach with a lifeguard during the summer, disabled access and nearby toilets. There are many cafes and kiosks for ice cream and snacks and the beach is very close to the town as well. Nice views of Constitution Hill and the Georgian hotels and guest houses along the promenade and some great sunsets to be seen here too.

The company were very difficult to get in touch with as the mobile phone number provided on the website is rarely answered, however, once I finally got through, the staff were VERY helpful and accommodating. They even agreed to offer me a 10% discount if I booked for a group of four or more. After much deliberation I chose a half-day (3 hour) Open Canoeing session for me and my partner costing £90 in total which, had it not been a special occasion, wouldn't have been spent. On the day, the price tag and all the hassle of organisation was forgotten thanks to a friendly, knowledgeable and approachable instructor called Hillary. Canoeing was very enjoyable, even on the calm Llangollen Canal. I felt I had really learned something and I was surprised to find that the lesson had been so much fun that I couldn't wait to try canoeing again! My only regret is that I didn't go with a larger group of friends!

The former Prime Minister William Gladstone was a huge fan of the resort of Penmaenmawr. After…read morefirst visiting the town in 1855 he paid eleven further visits over the following forty years. He's fondly remembered by the locals who erected a bust in the town and there's also a local gastro-pub named after him! If you visit the beach you can understand the attraction. This is a huge, flat and sandy beach (at least when the tide's out) and offers spectacular views of Llandudno and the Great Orme to the East and the Isle of Anglesey to the West. It's also reasonably easy to get to these days. Just off the A55, the main road between Chester and Holyhead and also close to the railway station which lies on the London to Holyhead line. There's a cafe, public toilets and an outdoor shower to wash off the sand after a day of building sandcastles and swimming in the Irish Sea. It's also always very quiet so you'll have no trouble finding space for the deckchairs. It's a shame really but the town has very little tourist accommodation available to attract holiday makers. So while ten miles along the coast Llandudno attracts thousands of tourists despite not having much of beach over in Pen a fantastic beach remains underused.

Lovely walk around the grounds, lovely walled garden - enjoyed seeing what they were growing. Had a lovely play area. The manor was extraordinary, such beautiful rooms and decor. So lavish. The parkland is extensive and there's a good mixture of woodland and open parkland to explore. Waymarked paths keep you on track. There is a deer park. The walled garden is currently being reconstructed but is already looking great. There is a children's play park which is wheelchair friendly too. It's themed around farming which adds to the interest. Suited to children from toddlers though to about 8. The park is currently the site of a modern art installation exhibition with some interesting creations dotted around the site. Toilet facilities are clean and the cafe offers basic but good food in a mansion house setting (you eat within the building). A basic children's menu is available which is smaller portions of adult meals (save for a picnic box). There is a second hand book shop and seasonal sales of plants. Recommended for a good family day out.
