This pharmacy has some of the rudest staff I've ever encountered. Normally I would overlook poor customer service because the location and drive-through are convenient, but the level of incompetence has become impossible to ignore. I stayed with this pharmacy for five years due to insurance coverage and convenience, but that ends now. Today I watched an elderly man--well over 80 years old--be openly degraded and yelled at by a technician at the counter. It was absolutely disgusting. Moments later, the same technician refused to assist me and told me to "call my insurance because it's not his problem." As a healthcare provider for the past 20 years, who works with pharmacies daily, I have never been so appalled by the way a staff member treated customers. Really a helpful visit, Turned out to be more than a breath of fresh air. I'd give them a 5 but you'd think I was exaggerating. I'm not, it took 3 minutes with employee Ra to get me back on Yelp helping out the neighborhood with my endorsement of the Balboa Clairemont location. I had a purpose to my visit, he worked with me offering more than one solution, and being receptive, creative, helpful and all in good spirit and humor. I absolutely LOVE the pharmacists, especially Cherish, Helen and Katrine at Balboa store. I would give them each a 5 star rating. They always go above and beyond to take care of my unique medication needs as a senior with a rare medical condition. My only complaint is with the long wait times to get through the phone lines. Please hire more people to answer phones! Especially with all of us new RiteAid customers who transferred our scripts over to Walgreens. Tonite I called almost half an hour before closing and couldn't get through. Then the male tech finally came on the line 4 minutes before closing and told me i can't talk to pharmacist and call tomorrow morning which is inconvenient. read more

I don't mind being put on hold right after my call connects -- the first time. But today, I went through a ridiculous loop: after five minutes on hold, it rang like I was finally getting through, only for someone to immediately put me on hold again. A few minutes later, same thing -- it rings, I hear some background noise, then I'm thrown back on hold. No greeting, no "thanks for holding," nothing. Just silence, then hold music. This happened multiple times over more than 20 minutes. There should be a policy: put a customer on hold once. Maybe twice -- if the second time comes with a quick "thanks for your patience" or something. I get that Walgreens is a huge corporation, but it's run by people. People who also need to pick up their prescriptions. You all should understand how frustrating this is. Do better. Oh, and while you're at it -- for the love of serotonin, please change your hold music. Opus No. 1 is not the vibe when I'm trying to refill my antidepressants. read more

The pharmacy is an absolute disaster. I wish I could give 0 stars. Don't attempt to call them, that will waste your time. You will be put on hold for exuberant amounts of time, it will ring, they'll answer and immediately hang up or tell you they cannot hear you. Sometimes they do what I call the "no speak special" in which it will ring, they'll click answer so you can hear the background noise of an answered line & then WHAM you're back on hold with a loop of music that makes you wish you were filling antipsychotic prescriptions instead of your birth control. If you want to go in to the store be prepared for a long line. If you get to the front of the line there is no guarantee that your prescription is ready. You may be thinking the drive thru is the way to go then, right? Wrong. It could be anywhere from a 15-45 minute wait. And you guessed it, your prescription may not be ready. One thing they'll tell you is to wait for the Walgreen's automated system to call or text you when your prescription is ready. This is also a lie, the system is rarely used effectively. I've trusted the text notification system too many times to count, only to be told my prescription is not in stock. Look, if someone from Walgreens or Walgreens corporate reads this- please, hire more staff to support them, train them, pay them-- idc what the problem is but this place makes a dumpster fire look suitable for making s'mores. read more

Beware of this (and all) Walgreens. Website quotes one price. Pick up at the store charges a higher price. Because I live two blocks from this place, I went there after seeing an item listed "on sale" at $17.99 for "in store pick up." Nowhere on the webpage did it state that the price ONLY applies if you pay online. When asked about this, rather than just give me the sale price, or call the store manager for the $2 difference, the rude "sales clerk" could only mutter repeatedly "that's the online price", even when I showed her the webpage where it says nothing of the sort. I know many stores advertise that the discounted price only applies to orders placed online (Target and Walmart are very clear on the website). However, the Walgreens website for the item I was looking at merely stated that "Curbside and in-store pickup available for this order." read more

TL;DR - if you're looking to get vaccines and don't have a PCP, go across the street to CVS or maybe a different Walgreens location. This one is chaotic, and they almost gave me the wrong vaccine!! I needed to get two recommended vaccines for an upcoming international trip. The vaccines are more unusual and not necessarily in stock, but the Walgreens website had me believe I could just make an online appointment for the desired vaccines. I showed up for my appointment on time and waited over 20 minutes in line. The pharmacy tech proceeded to tell me that neither of the vaccines were covered by my insurance and I should look up coupons on GoodRX. I told her that my phone didn't have good service in the store, and I didn't really have time to look for coupons. Thankfully, she found me something that provided a discount. I was getting flustered because over 30 min had passed by this point, and now it was looking like I'd be late to my next appointment. After filling out the forms, a pharmacist (I think her name was Cherish? Or something like that) called me over to confirm which vaccines I wanted. The pharmacy tech had gotten one of them wrong. I looked at the post it note on which she'd copied down the vaccine names from my confirmation email, and sure enough, she'd written down the wrong vaccine. It turned out they didn't actually have the second vaccine I had wanted, so I would have to come back after they'd ordered more. And they had to refund me and redo the transaction with the one vaccine only. At this point I was just relieved she'd caught the tech's mistake. I get that mistakes happen, but giving someone the wrong vaccine seems like a pretty high-stakes mistake!! One star because they had one of the vaccines I'd wanted and I got it, even though the experience took an hour (at CVS across the street, I can usually get a vaccine within 15 minutes). A second star for the sweet pharmacist who corrected the mistake and made me feel better about the whole ordeal. read more

I stopped by yesterday to pick up a prescription for my husband and the pharmacy had a sign saying it was closed. There was no indication this was just for lunch, but the clerk explained to me it was and that this is the same sign they've been using for a while. I suggested it might be better to explain that on the window sign and she said she would pass it on to management. There have been numerous times I receive a text saying a prescription is ready and when I arrive, it is not. There also seems to be some mandatory delay built into their system for prescriptions too. It doesn't seem to matter if we've had the prescription filled before, just vague messages like "awaiting approval from the provider" or waiting on insurance for my dog's meds when there is no insurance involved. What a mess. The last thing my dentist said after a tooth extraction was, "Get the pain pills in you before the shot wears off. I also was given an antibiotic. I get there but the antibiotic was not filled. I had to wait. The pain had not started. No problem. Then I waited some more. There was some pain. Finally I get the prescription in a stapled bag. I go all the way home and there was no hydrocodone. I called Walgreens. I asked where were my pain pills? By then my mouth was hurting. They said maybe it wasn't filled yet. Why did they not tell me? The person on the phone did not know why. I explained that I was hurting, I was about 20 minutes away and it was during rush hour. I was told I could come down and get it, they were opened to nine. Well I am finally at home with the medication but now my mouth is throbbing. I need to find a closer pharmacy and with people who have an understanding of their patients needs. read more

Trying to call the pharmacy is the worst thing in the world. The people helping are lovely and is by no means their fault, but if you get put on HOLD, the call forwards you somewhere else after a few minutes then automatically hangs up on you so you'll need to redial again. We made an appointment (and received a confirmed registration note) to get the latest Covid booster. Although we have Kaiser (a big HMO here) we have gotten all our previous vaccines and boosters at stores like Walgreens and Vons. But when we got there today, they said that the rules changed in May and Kaiser members were no longer allowed to be vaccinated there. This information--in a city where Kaiser is extremely common--should have been mentioned in the online registration. We shouldn't have been able to make the registration and take time off work to go all the way down there and then been turned away. The pharmacist just shrugged and said that the online registration lets anyone make register, and then you get accepted or turned down once you arrive. Not good customer service. read more

This may be the worst pharmacy in the United States. It takes sometimes an hour on hold to get a phone call answered. They don't always fill prescriptions the same day - it could take several days and multiple calls to get a prescription filled. They tell you it will be ready in 30 min and it takes 90 min, even if you are sitting there waiting and asking for updates. They run out of things but don't bother telling you until you come to pick it up. They are so understaffed and just bad. read more

I went inside to the FedEx drop off to ship a package that I already had a FedEx label for. This location does not provide receipts for such transactions but has FedEx send you a text with a tracking link. However, this link is not valid yet. So you can either leave your package there with no receipt or have them bring it back out from the back room, lug it back to your car and drive it to an actual FedEx facility. This concerned be greatly as the package I was dropping off contained a very expensive monitor. I had the absolute worst experience at Walgreens pharmacy. I tried to call but couldn't get through so I went in person. I went in person and they said the order wasn't ready and to come back in an hour. I tried to call an hour later, waited on hold for over 10 minutes just to be hung up on. I tried again and just kept being put on hold and no one ever answered. I finally went back, waited another 8 minutes through the drive thru and when I got to the front, they had to rerun my insurance and told me it would take another 15-20 minutes. After I requested a bag, she said, oh I don't think that item will fit in the bag. Like it's completely her call to decide if the customer should get a bag to cover up an item that is going to be dropped on their front porch for the entire neighborhood to see? Waited and waited until the pharmacist told me their refrigerator was not working properly so the Covid shots had to be thrown away. I don't understand how this place stays in business. Maybe it's great as a convenience store but as a pharmacy it is terrible. The drive through randomly closes and they lie to your face about the reason. Online refill requests routinely get lost or ignored. Every interaction is ridiculously slow. As some reviewers already noted, phone calls are an exercise in building patience as you will likely get hung up while on hold. Today I have to reach out again and seeing as no one will answer the phone it looks like I will have to physically go into the pharmacy just to get this prescription transferred. First wait hold time was 10 minutes and it kicked me off. 2nd attempt, I am currently on hold at 34 minutes and counting. Listen to hold music then rings constantly for 2 minutes then back to hold music and so on.
