This was not a scam I was familiar with, so I didn't think to cross-check the receipt or take a picture of the mileage. I did have a receipt proving that I purchased 25 gallons of gas, but did not have proof that I put that gasoline in the U-Haul. They also charged me $80 for an extra day when I was two hours late bringing the U-Haul back. I am aware that it was their right to do so, but very few businesses would do that to their customers. Can't say anything about the convenience store, i wasn't exactly in the mood to purchase anything after they got done screwing me out of around $150.

The reason it gets 1 star is due to the U-Haul service they provide... I reserved a U-Haul 17ft truck for 48 hours. I was to pick up the truck on Thursday morning, and had until Saturday morning to return it. I made the reservation with the service center itself, not a remote operator. I was told it would be fine, I just had to return the truck to this location (which cost me more fuel money, but I was in a pinch and was okay with that). I picked the truck up on Thursday at around 10:30 am. I returned the truck on Saturday at around 9:30 am. 47 hours, roughly. When I parked the truck and began to cross the street to check it in and settle my bill, I was approached by who I assume was the owner of the business. He approached me with his hand out, palm up, and said, "There it is! Do you have my key?" I said, "Yes, I'm returning the truck and need to pay my bill." He said "OK, you were supposed to have this truck back yesterday... I already reported it as stolen to U-Haul." I said, "Je*us, it wasn't stolen! I reserved this truck for 48 hours!" He said, "I never reserved this truck for you for that long. It was only an overnight reservation." I said, "I didn't talk to you on the phone, I spoke with a lady on the phone. This is the right place, right?" (I knew it was obviously the right place, they had my reservation on their computer when I picked the truck up.) He said, "Yes, this is the right place, this is where you had it reserved..." The guy tells me he 'lost a rental' due to me having the truck for 48 hours (even though I was paying for a rental for 48 hours, so he lost nothing). I was told that their policy is a 24 hour rental period from 9am to 9am, regardless of when you pick the truck up. I was charged for 72 hours rental, and 72 hours insurance, even though I only had the truck for 47 hours!! The justification being I picked the truck up on Thursday, and since it was Saturday at 9:30am I would be charged a 3rd day since I was 30 minutes late!!! Bear in mind I was still 1 hour short of a full 48 hours! I did get a refund through U-Haul's main corporate office, of almost $50. The truck was rented out again before I had even left the service station. In the future, I'll rent from a U-Haul rental that is more together...
