COVID-19 BOOSTER EXPERIENCE REVIEW My appointment was scheduled online through walgreens.com by my partner. We went to Walgreens together on the same day for our boosters. This was our first time getting a vaccination at Walgreen, let alone at a pharmacy. Here's the deal - A few days before your appointment, you get a confirmation email sent to the address used when you scheduled. The email contains your confirmation number for the appointment and instructions on what to do before and on the day of your appointment (get there 15 minutes earlier, wear a short sleeve shirt, bring your ID and vaccination card, and fill out a screening form). WHEN YOU GET TO THE STORE: - Walk to the back right of the store to the pharmacy. The pharmacy line starts along the wall to the right. (I saw some people take a seat without getting in line first thinking it's a different process for vaccines - it's not, so get in line to be seen and let them know you are there for a shot). - Have with you your government ID card, a copy or the actual vaccination card (which you will give to them to verify and later mark with proof of your visit/shot), and your medical/pharmacy insurance cards in case they need it (if you're not an already Walgreens customer in the system or your med/rx info needs updating). WHEN YOU GET TO THE PHARMACY COUNTER: - 1st time at counter: You'll give your 1) confirmation number from the email 2) your last name and birth date. They'll take your vaccination card from you, and then ask you to take a seat and wait for your name to be called. They are taking the vaccination card to verify the information before continuing with intake. - 2nd time at the counter: After they call your name to come to the counter, they'll hand you over a clipboard with the vaccination screening form (questions about symptoms, allergies to medicine, etc) to fill out. Take a seat and fill out the form, then hand it back to them when finished. You'll take a seat again and wait for your name to be called again. - 3rd time at the counter: They'll call your name and walk you over to the enclosed area where they administer vaccines. It's a small booth with high wall partitions and a door that closes. I noticed store noise is muffled and the space was clean. You'll take a seat, and the staff associate will have the needle, alcohol pad, and bandage for you. It's very quick. Then you're done.** ** you're supposed to wait 15 minutes after the shot to make sure no weird/sudden side effects, so I recommend taking a seat again for that time just in case you leave the store and something happens. Err on the side of caution. IN SHORT: Overall, an easy and fairly smooth process. My advice would be to schedule your appointment when the pharmacy would be less busy because it's one wait line, so you're in line with people getting their prescriptions and walk-ins, so your TOTAL WAIT TIME WILL VARY - even though you have an appointment time - depending on how busy it is. For example, I was through within about 25-30 minutes. My partner was there for an hour. Our appointments were separated by 15 minutes, but there was an influx of customers who came in when he was just getting in queue. read more

I think we spent more time circling the block trying to find a parking spot (either on the street or in the store's small lot) than actually in the store itself. We were able to find what we wanted - eventually. The layout isn't really obvious, and the signs weren't always easy to see. The carpeting looks like it could use a good cleaning too. But this is still probably the best place to visit in the area for your pharmaceutical and convenience needs. read more

This Walgreens is located just down the street of where I was staying for a couple weeks in Newark. The shelves were stocked ok...in some areas it looked like they were waiting for merchandise to arrive. But while waiting in line to pay for a few items, I saw the manager conveniently sweep the garbage from inside the store, out the front door!! I went into my car and started filming him and this is what you see. First I was just staring at him not sure if my eyes were deceiving me, but after a surreal moment, I realized this jack-ass was too damn lazy to get a dust pan and properly sweep the garbage into it and throw it in the garbage can! Who trained this friendly neighborhood manager? Imagine his staff watching and learning his ways...what a complete disgrace. OK I've been here many times before and wanted to give this place a chance to redeem itself before i reviewed. Bottom line this place blows, its almost as if no one works here. Long slow line is standard issue! (Note the singular on line)...i noticed some yelpers giving 5 stars. ..WTF?..i guess when your buying condoms at 4am your happy about something. .lol A simple task of getting a greeting card was impossible the , all the damn envelopes were missing? ..another WTF!...have they been stolen? ..who knows. the parking is also a joke, it's an 8 car lot so tight you'll be cursing yourself after your 20point K turn to exit the lot. This is the second time I've come down and it's been closed even though their system says they are 24/7 as does the sign out front. I get that there can be staffing issues but at least have it when I push the 'coming to pick up mily online order button' it tells people you are closed read more

The lines are normally long and just one cashier working! Sometimes there is a cashier in the cosmetics section if you buy something from that section you can pay there, but she is not just standing behind register so you have no idea you could've paid there. Also, there are two photo kiosks and one is normally down. This time both were down. I've ordered pictures online to be picked up and have waited forever for someone to show up and help me. Most of the time I have no choice but to go here because of my work hours since it is open 24 hrs. Enough said. read more

The pharmacy tech with the long black hair is a disgustingly rude. I'm mad she has access to medical info. She once accused me of picking up narcotics from multiple pharmacies. It was literally my first time ever getting the medication. Ans she said "when is the last time you picked this up? I need to make sure you're not getting it multiple places, because it's a NARCOTIC." I was literally on crutches after my knee surgery earlier that day lol. I was getting an antibiotic at the same time. I travel for work and it is in my chart notes to allow extra time for pickup. I went to get my prescription 8 days after it was filled, she told me with a smile on her ugly face that she had to put it back, because it had been too long sitting on the shelf. She thought I wasn't going to say anything. When I asked her to read the notes in my file, she started stuttering like the idiot she is. How can you look a patient in the face and smile while inconveniencing them? It was my last refill before the prescription expired so I had to make an MD appt before I can get it filled. She needs to not be involved in healthcare of any kind. read more

Parking lot, trashcan by front door, and entrance is always filthy. Shelves are always empty. Recently heard a customer saying the store must be new bc there was nothing in the shelf. They are just always out of EVERYTHING. Avoid the inconvenience if you can. Pharmacy staff is friendly and efficient. read more

Walgreens Newark - At the corner of Condescending and Incompetent First let's review the Pharmacy - borderline illegal? One of the pharmacists, Maria?, tried to imply my partner an addict when he went to fill a pain prescription post surgery. She even took it upon herself to call his doctor and "warn" him of what she suspected was foul play - the doctor let us know he got the call. Partner complained to store manager. Outcome - nothing but canned apology and a promise for a follow up. We now go to CVS or elsewhere for prescriptions. Passport photos - incompetence Don't do it! Took my pictures. Asked the young girl if she was sure these met requirements and she said yes absolutely! Next day at the passport office - I find out no, they do not meet the requirements. And I had to pay double at a nearby passport photo shop to get the right pics taken. Walgreens gave me a refund when I went back, but no courtesy credit to other customer service extra to make up for the extra unnecessary expense bc of their incompetency. Outcome- refund and canned apology and not very believable assurance that he will tell employees to do a better job with their service. No more Walgreen passport photos. The petite female manager who started to handle the passport refund until I asked for another manager: I witnessed her months earlier berate a young employee who was helping me and then she got angry and wrote him up when he did the smart thing by staying quiet and not answering back to her. I let her know after she "sent him to the back" and spoke with him that he was actually being quite helpful to me. Apparently great customer service is not the kind of behavior she rewards because "he did not answer" her. Overall rudeness, and immature management has been the consistent experience. Except one elderly African American woman at the register by the door usually in the am but I haven't seen her in awhile... C'mon get it together Walgreens Newark! Just bc you're a big box store doesn't mean you have right to treat people less than... Learn from some of your other sister stores who are doing it right! This has to be one of the worst Walgreen's around, if there are three or four people in line, expect to wait and wait. Pricing items is a tricking thing, when you get to the cash register, don't be shocked at the new price, it's always higher. Avoid unless you need a few essentials. This Walgreen's caters to the working class section of the Ironbound, missing many items that you will find in other locations. I'm sure they are taking advantage of the none English speaking community. read more

If you come to this Walgreens long enough you would know that managers wear grey vest therefore the older employee that someone is making fun of is one of our retired employees, so making fun of him is like making fun of a disable person.
