This is a review on ER experience today. My husband felt unwell. This hospital is so calm and does…read morenot add additional stress to their patients. It is quiet and serene. Nurses have bedside matter. Doctors are very informative. We are not left in the dark. I trust they will take good care of my husband. So far they are very attentive. I recommend coming in the morning or very early in morning. It is more stress free. If you have a smartphone, you can do registration on your smartphone or tablet. It helps keep patients from getting disturbed especially if they are unwell. I completed it for him so he can get focused on just getting care for. It is not fancy hospital but a great one for less stress.

I am currently admitted at Allenmore Hospital for a sickle cell vaso-occlusive crisis, and this has…read morebeen one of the most distressing and concerning care experiences I have had. Throughout my admission, my pain has not been adequately controlled, yet providers have repeatedly deferred to a rigid interpretation of my care plan rather than responding to my actual condition. I was explicitly told that a PCA (patient-controlled analgesia) could not be initiated because it was not written into my care plan--even though PCA has been a standard and effective part of my care in past hospitalizations when IV dosing alone was insufficient. When I expressed that my pain was worsening, I was told to "wait an hour" for the next dose despite increasing pain levels. In addition to unmanaged pain, I experienced severe opioid-induced itching. Despite clearly communicating that oral Benadryl does not work for me and that IV Benadryl has consistently been the only effective option in past admissions, I was denied IV Benadryl. Instead, I was given oral medication that did not relieve my symptoms, leaving me in significant discomfort. What is especially concerning is the language documented in my medical record. A provider note from Dr. John Vu stated that I "appear slightly high" in response to my request for IV Benadryl, and a urine drug screen was ordered. This type of subjective and stigmatizing language is not only inaccurate, but it directly impacts care decisions. Instead of my symptoms and history being taken seriously, assumptions were made that affected my treatment. There were also serious issues with procedural care. My apheresis port was accessed by vascular access staff despite me providing a detailed instruction card (including a reference link). The instructions were not followed, and the port was accessed as if it were a standard power port. This resulted in significant bleeding, pain, and ongoing soreness and irritation at the site. When I raised concerns, I was told the instructions were "hard to read," which is not an acceptable justification for deviating from proper protocol--especially for a specialized port. Additionally, I was initially told in the Emergency Department that no staff were available who could access my port, only to later be informed on the inpatient unit that trained staff were available. This inconsistency delayed care and raises concerns about communication and staff preparedness. Outside of the hospital, I also experienced issues with my medication management. My original oxycodone prescription was removed and replaced with a different dosage without clear communication, resulting in delays and an unexpected copay. This added unnecessary stress during an already difficult time. Overall, this experience reflects a pattern of: - Dismissal of patient-reported symptoms - Rigid adherence to care plans without reassessment - Use of stigmatizing and subjective language in documentation - Lack of adherence to proper procedural protocols - Poor communication regarding both inpatient and outpatient care As a patient with sickle cell disease, I should not have to fight to have my pain believed or my symptoms treated appropriately. This experience has significantly impacted my trust in the care I am receiving. I hope this review leads to meaningful changes in how sickle cell patients are treated, particularly around pain management, documentation practices, and adherence to established protocols.

Despite me clearly stating that my back was hurting after falling a couple of feet onto wooden stairs, she dismissed my concerns and said I only had bruises. I had to strongly advocate for myself to receive an X-ray, which I felt was reasonable given the nature of the fall. Additionally, she frequently used medical terminology without explaining it in layman's terms. Even when I indicated that I did not understand what she meant, she did not pause to clarify. A friend who works in healthcare had come with me and luckily explain the terminology to me afterwards Finally, while she verbally advised me to avoid heavy lifting and sudden movements, when I asked, she refused to provide any form of written note or documentation for my employer. Overall, I left feeling unheard, unsupported, and dissatisfied with the level of care and communication during this visit.

I cannot believe that this company is in business yesterday I brought my son over to get treated…read morefor stitches because on Easter Sunday he was hit by a vehicle on a friend's bike and fell over cut his face open blood pouring out of him. He's only 10 years old and they told us that they could not see him because if he was a minor, this was the MMA that said this this was not the doctor herself or him, but the MA said that they can't do anything about that because they don't treat for that kind of age. My son was already scared enough as it was and for him to have to ride around with his father with a tower holding pressure to it and bleeding and have ice on his face is not correct. I'm very disappointing in this place. I hope the management can. fix this problem. I will not for no one to this place at all is terrible that the company supposed to be before the people to help them in medical field yet you can't even treat my son with two stitches. That's all he needed. I am 34 years old and just starting my journey on hospice care. Despite a year-long and strict "no…read morehospital trips under any circumstances" came to Franciscan Hospice House because my pain was unmanageable, which I have previously gone to ER's to aid in getting some relief, but was the only met with indifferent, yet judgy doctors who labeled me as a drug seeker, and didn't care if there was anything wrong with me. Especially considering I have an issue where I metabolize medication too quickly, making it far less effective, and making me need higher doses of everything, which does not go over well in the ERs. I had to become used to the fact that if I were going to an ER visit or a hospitalization, I was going to end up going home in worse condition then when I had gotten there, pain-wise. I was told that this place would be different in hospice is different, but I still expected it when I came here a couple nights ago. I was met with absolutely nothing but the opposite of everything I just described. All this time, I've been wondering where all of the good-hearted people, who got into medicine to help others to heal their pain, judgement free, had gone, and I seem to have stumbled upon them right here at the Franciscan hospice House. I can't say enough how amazing each and every person who works here is, and I wish I could recognize it in a way where I'm able to give back some of what they've given me, but posting my truth on the on this internet website will just have to do. All my dozens of ER visits and hospitalizations I have experienced in my adult life, made me feel like I was doing something wrong when I needed and asked for some kind of pain control, to the point where I was ashamed to even ask. I unlearned that behavior here, and I don't know if I could have gone on without that changing. I found no nefarious actions, or questionable intentions in anything that is done here by any of the people who work here, it's just good people. I was unaware they still existed. It's like finding a freaking unicorn on a bit stunned and unsure of what to do next, but this seems like the right step. I almost don't want to make any sudden movements and in fear that it might spook them and everything will go back to the hellish ways that I'm used to. If you're considering getting their services, my only advice is stop waiting and just do it, because for me, nothing but good came out of it. Your life might seem like that too, but if anyone were to pull out some more good parts of life, it would be them, and it would be here (I'm actually still a patient here as of right meow

I'll start with it's a nice clean facility. And some of the staff are angels here. But I was a bit…read moreuncomfortable on how much they drug up the patients here. My family clearly specified to not raise the Fentanyl and the sedative dosages on my mom without notifying us and they still did it behind our backs. The doctor just kept on apologizing when we complained about it. One nurse raised the dosages right after I went to the bathroom, it felt sneaky! She also kept pressuring us to press the button for more drugs when the patient was already comfortable. Also, the nurse on duty when my mom died was a bit inexperienced. We had to keep calling her back to point out that her breathing changed and she kept saying she's not leaving yet. Maybe the staff and this place should be more monitored/audited here.
