This is my second time having a team confrence at this hotel and it doesn't disappoint. The confrence areas are very well kept and very high end. The food has always been great. Senior Staffer Was Inhospitable and Rude. As all the 5-star reviews say, the Walden is a beautiful and well-appointed resort that should make for a marvelous weekend get-away in the Aurora countryside. Rating solely on physical appearance and amenities, I would agree with 5-stars. However, I expected that standard at the $525 I paid for one night in their bridal suite. I did NOT expect how one of their managers would treat us. The Backstory: due to an unfortunate and complicated set of last-moment circumstances, my son and daughter-in-law could not go on a honeymoon after their wedding. So my wife and I decided to afford them a memorable wedding night. And the Walden was local and came highly recommended. The gentleman who took our reservation was helpful and accommodating of our last-minute booking. We asked if the Inn could provide an arrangement of flowers. He answered yes, and we agreed upon a simple bouquet of spring flowers; the price quoted was $40 to $45. Then we asked if we could leave a gift bag with wine and chocolates for their room before arrival. He again answered yes, and we agreed to deliver the gift bag the morning of the day before. The next day we called to ask about accommodating some dietary restrictions. We asked the manager if it was possible to have breakfast delivered. She was very accommodating at first. In that conversation, we elaborated that we would like to have a kosher caterer bring breakfast, and the gift bag would contain kosher chocolates, kosher prosecco, and toiveled stemware. The conversation turned cold abruptly, but we simply assumed she was simply busy or distracted. We stopped by the Inn to drop off the gift bag the morning of the day before the wedding, as agreed. A delightful young lady greeted us and promised to take care of everything. My wife elaborated upon the bag's contents and asked that the prosecco be chilled before service. There was an immediate change in facial expression and body language as the young lady realized who we were. That is when I realized this was the manager I spoke with on the phone a few days prior. My wife naively wondered if we could see the bridal suite. Instead of politely explaining that it was not possible because another couple presently occupied the suite, the woman was visibly annoyed. She condescendingly responded as if we had asked a stupid question. I do not recall her precise response, but it was not polite, and she was very keen on ending the conversation. So the wedding comes and goes. The following day, we found out that the Inn had left nothing from the gift bag in the suite, and they charged us $96 for the $45 flower arrangement. So, of course, we called again to find out what had happened. The staff we spoke to was unaware of our requests. They acknowledged that there was a gift bag but said no one had instructions on what to do with it. We later found out that no one conveyed instructions about the catered breakfast either. The caterer recounted initial uncertainty about which room to deliver the breakfast, although it was quickly resolved. I stopped by the Inn to retrieve the gift bag that afternoon. Guess who is behind the front desk. But she was not quite so delightful this time. She spoke the words but was in no way apologetic; annoyed and condescending would be better characterizations. She even suggested that WE somehow bore responsibility for the miscommunication. Her begrudged remedy was to refund us the $96 price gouge for the bouquet; she believed herself to be extraordinarily generous by offering that. As I walked out of the Inn, I had a flashback recalling the snobby Boulmiche Boutique sales associates' treatment of Vivian in the movie Pretty Woman. Those fictional characters were hyperbole and cliché. This young lady is apparently understudying their roles. Thankfully, my son and daughter-in-law are entirely unaware of how things transpired. But I am disappointed and could never recommend this Inn to anyone, regardless of it being only one individual's performance. Hopefully, my one-star rating will bring this woman's behavior to her manager's attention. read more

Extremely dissatisfied with the level of competence and service at this hotel. My boyfriend and I booked a suite and paid around $600 dollars. A more than reasonable rate for the accommodations I prefer. The hotel had no issue taking payment in full and providing a very detailed description of their policies. Please keep in mind we are traveling here for a wedding as it would not be my vacation destination of choice. Over a week later, he received a call stating the entire hotel was booked and our accommodations would be canceled. Obviously they are providing a refund but this is absolutely unacceptable. As a business in the year 2024, there should be no reason why a website does not reflect current reservation and booking availability. Additionally, the Walden representative said they would "ask the wedding party if they were ok with us staying?" What? That reflects as highly unprofessional. Not only have I worked directly in the hospitality industry on a director level, but also in onboarding of hotel/vacation rental software. In this day and age, there is no excuse for such a discrepancy. Management really should be more privy to the inner workings of their booking process, as to not allow this oversight to occur at what is supposed to be a luxury accommodation. I like to support non-corporate/single owner businesses, but being a smaller or family owned business is not an excuse for unprofessionalism. If for some reason, there was an issue I expect some sort of consolation for the MAJOR inconvenience. No consolation, voucher or anything was offered. The reps response truly lacked the personal touch I expect from not staying at a large chain hotel. The fact that we will now have to rent a car, drive to a suitable accommodation at midnight, thus preventing us from having a cocktail with dinner or at the wedding, is irritating. I feel responsibility and accountability was not taken by the hotel representative. Disappointed by this experience, and that nothing was done to encourage us to ever stay here despite the error on the hotel's part. In closing buyer beware, their direct booking via the website may not be accurate. Do not get excited for a trip, or have any level of expectation because you may end up sorely disappointed. read more

This place is FABULOUS! My fiancé surprised me with a weekend trip there and I couldn't be happier. The Inn is gorgeous and our suite was unreal. So unique and lavish. We had spa treatments and while the manicure wasn't the best I've ever had, the service overall and the facilities were wonderful. We had an issue with a it dinner at The Barn and the Director of Operations comped it and made it right. I couldn't recommend Walden more highly and look forward to coming back soon! read more

Pure beauty and luxury. Each room is different and you feel like your in a small apartment. Very cozy and well appointed. The restaurant was good but not great. There are lots of good restaurants in the area so not a problem. Would be great for an Anniversary night or that extra special out of town visitor. read more

This is not the best hotel we've stayed in but it will not make it any less special for us. We'be been staying in walden every year for the last 5 years for our anniversary. We do couples massage then check into our room, have an afternoon tea and then dinner at the barn (5star just there) then back to the hotel. In the morning breakfast at blue ribbon coffee and then one more spa service. The overall experience is fantastic. After one night we feel completely refreshed. Everything is very professional and personalized to make you feel very special. Best service. Who would believe 5 star experience in our Cleveland. We will be coming back every year read more

Outstanding, professional staff...all the little extras that make this place THE place for a quiet get-away with your S.O. Huge rooms, each unique, tea time in the library with scones, day spa, great food in nearby Aurora. Super clean, great smells of oak firewood burning, a not in-your-face check-in desk. The best mattresses you've slept on. So good, you can purchase them direct from the local mfr, which are made exclusively for Walden. Eat in the Blue Ribbon cafe for a fantastic breakfast. The Barn has excellent food, but if you're not into seafood, you may not be amenable to eating there. You really could just get there early, chill in the library reading books while gazing out to the pasture and beautiful surroundings. Will be coming here again. read more

First class Inn. My wife & I had a weekend package for our 10th Anniversary. They provided flowers and a complimentary bottle of Champagne to our suite. Restaurant had very good food. Only downside is the restaurant is off property, a 5 minute complimentary drive down the road in a rustic converted barn. read more

World Class Spa -- hands down. Having been to many, I've never seen one that gives you your own private twelve head steam shower and an over sized Jacuzzi soaking tub in the very room in which your treatments take place. The accommodation, a loft room, although well above average, was too rustic to justify the price point. This fact is easily forgotten when you consider how having a room on property enhances the Spa experience that's just a simple walk down the hall in the luxurious robe and slippers they provide. At every turn your provided champagne and chocolates, hot tea and fruit -- whatever sensory pleasure they could think of to make your journey to relaxation sublime. Outstanding. read more

My husband and I have stayed here several times. It is a great little local get away. Dinner at the barn is top notch, and the breakfast the next morning at blue ribbon cafe is equally amazing. We also enjoy sitting in the library for afternoon tea and later on for a delicious meat, cracker, and cheese plate. The staff goes to all lengths to accommodate any requests and are extremely present and professional. The rooms could use some updating. While the rooms are MUCH cleaner than the average hotel room, there are some opportunities for improvement including paying better attention to dusting, vacuuming around the edges of carpet or stairs leading up to a loft room..... The bed is also more comfortable than most hote beds. With that said still one of the best places to stay in the area for a night out / romantic getaway. read more

Save your money! My husband and I stayed at the Inn this past weekend for our anniversary and were so excited considering all the hype surrounding the hotel. I have a background in hospitality and fine dining, which is why I was extremely surprised to learn that the night auditor would be the friendliest staff member that we encountered. The carpet in our suite had multiple signs of having not been vacuumed not to mention multiple large, untreated stains. I understand these things happen but expected much more from a $400/night, 5 star hotel. We received everything that we asked for but were never made aware of multiple amenities that the hotel offered including a shuttle to the restaurant although we confirmed our reservation with the desk twice. The best dish at the restaurant was the crab cake appetizer with the remainder of our 4 course meal being extremely mediocre, offering unimaginative dishes with flavorless sides. read more
