Patients crying to be transported simply from their chair into bed for 2 hours. Not an exaggeration. Witnessed multiple times. While there are exceptions, staff can be very rude, defensive, flippant, deflecting. US News quality reviews very inaccurate & misleading from what we've witnessed. Terrible. If this is one of the better skilled nursing and rehab hospitals in the greater Boston area, we're in a very sad state

Heartbreaking Experience…read more I honestly wouldn't recommend this Rehab to anyone. The staff here move incredibly slow and seem overwhelmed all the time. Most of the nurses are retired and just don't have the energy or attentiveness that patients need. There are no staff doctors, only nurse practitioners, and it feels like there's no real leadership or plan in place for anything. There's no protocol for emergencies -- during a fire alarm, everyone looked confused about what to do. We also had two power outages in one week, and instead of fixing the issue or using proper backup power, they handed out battery-operated LED lights to patients. It was honestly shocking.Language barrier is an issue especially when reciting the menu options The worst part is how long it takes to get help. I've seen patients left sitting in their own feces for up to 40 minutes before anyone came. No one deserves that. It breaks my heart to see people treated this way when they're supposed to be cared for and respected in their later years. This place seriously needs to be inspected and held accountable. Families deserve better, and so do the people living here.

If you care about your loved one, do NOT send them to Life Care Center of Stoneham…read more My father was admitted here after a toe amputation due to a blood infection--and what happened next was nothing short of horrifying. He was extremely ill from long-term antibiotics and severely dehydrated. We repeatedly raised concerns about his declining condition, yet the staff showed blatant disregard for his wellbeing. We specifically asked for something to help with his severe reflux, and our concerns were brushed off with no real solution provided. By Friday, he was urinating blood and vomiting. The response from a doctor "There's nothing we can do until Monday." He was in clear distress, and they offered no medical intervention. How is that acceptable in any licensed healthcare facility? My mother insisted they call an ambulance and thank god she did. My dad ended up in the hospital for 6 days! The core issue is this: Life Care of Stoneham does not have sufficient qualified staff to safely and competently care for elderly patients. What we witnessed was not an isolated oversight--it was a breakdown in basic care stemming from what appears to be dangerously inadequate staffing and training. If my mother hadn't been by his side every single day--monitoring him, speaking up, and demanding answers--he might not be alive today. That's not an exaggeration. The neglect at Life Care of Stoneham could have been fatal. This facility failed my father on every level--failing to provide proper care, to respond to medical emergencies, or to treat him with basic dignity and compassion. Stay far away.

Karen went above and beyond every day giving my Dad hope and smiles. She is very good with those that are in pain, frightened and not their normal self. Her calming presence, years of experience and attention to detail helped ensure he was improving albeit ever so slowly every day. Great communication and patience. Congratulations to Life Care of Stoneham for hiring and keeping such quality personnel. Thank you, Karen, for all you do.

This is what Abernathy Home Care based in Stoneham, MA services look like!…read more I had originally wrote a review on their page and was blocked when trying to warn others about what my grandmother has experienced over the last two years. My grandmother has been using Abernathy (formerly How's Work) for two years. My grandmother had two strokes, two years ago, and to prevent her from going into a nursing home, our family acquired 24/7 home services. The experience with Abernathy has been anything but pleasant. My grandmother lives alone and I started staying with her to prevent excess stress. My grandmother has limited function in her body. There have been multiple incidents of missed medications, no observation (she showered alone and was sent to the ER as a result of bruised ribs), no offering of food or water, employees ignoring her pleas for help, employees sleeping on the job everyday (even now as I type this), excess phone use, employee yelling, lack of professional boundaries, and so much more. If you care about your family members wellbeing, please go through another agency! I've had to report multiple aids using their emergency phone line. Nothing has changed nor improved!

Upon arrival, they performed an EKG, X-rays, and blood work--but then left her sitting in the waiting room for over 8 hours without treatment or monitoring. Given her condition, this was alarming and felt unsafe. When we were finally brought to a room, we were seen by a nurse practitioner who, while polite, informed us we would not be seeing a physician as he had 12 years experience. After additional blood work, he returned and said she would be discharged if she could walk. A staff member walked her for approximately 10 seconds and cleared her. I specifically asked why she was being discharged with blood pressure still over 200, and was told she was "fine" and that her primary care doctor would need to manage it. This response was both dismissive and deeply concerning given the potential severity of hypertensive crisis. The lack of urgency, minimal evaluation before discharge, and dismissal of a dangerously high blood pressure reading left us feeling frustrated and worried for her safety. I would not expect this level of care--or lack thereof--from a hospital in a serious situation.
