Wagyu One is now my favorite exemplifies everything I love about the Melbourne food scene. Delivery into the CBD, innovative food choices (including sukiyaki-- they call is wagyu udon soup), and while a bit on the pricey side, high quality and delicious. The soup was a large portion. No moaning about where's the beef here, it was front and center. Tender and juicy. The udon was a bit overdone and therefore chewy, likely a hazard of ordering delivery, but still tasty and gluteny (thanks spellcheck for trying to change this to gluttony, very apropos). The broth was the star though, sweet but still umami with a great depth of flavor. Exactly like a sukiyaki, so if you don't like sweet with Benito flakes, look elsewhere.
The double salmon roll was too large. I had to cut each slice into quarters! The whole purpose of sushi is to pop it in, not cut it up. It was also doused in mayo bomb, which just isn't my thing.
The beef salad was simple, beef, greens, a few pieces of asparagus, and vinegarette. I kept the salad for dinner since the soup portion was so large and it was still filling and remained fresh and crisp. The salad is admittedly simple so while tasty it didn't blow my mind either creatively or with flavor. I'd order it again, but it may not be to your taste preference.
Some of the little things I liked. The chopsticks were the cutest I've ever seen for delivery. They looked like nice wooden chopsticks you'd get in a restaurant-- not cheap disposables. The containers were very high quality and compostable. I really appreciated that they spent a little more to care for our planet. They included a spoon and napkin-- which anyone who orders delivery often enough knows is freaking magical.
I will be eating here again. read more
