I signed up for an Agility class back in the spring of 2023 and paid over $150 for a six week class for my border collie. Unfortunately because of an issue with my dog's behavior he was unable to complete the six week session and only completed one. I recognized my dog would be unable to complete the agility class so I decided to not attend anymore agility classes. I subsequently asked for my money ($150) back or part of it and was told they (WAG) do not do refunds. I thought that was very unprofessional of them not to give me my money back and still to this day am very upset about it! I do not think highly of WAG for not going out of their way and doing the right thing! I would advise people to be very careful if anyone is paying a lot of money to WAG! They will not give you any refunds, period! Very bad business in my opinion!!! read more

Okay, if you are into dog training and sporting, you will love the opportunity to get your crazy pooch running circles around obstacle courses. WAG, or Western Agility Group, is the ONLY agility program held in a covered arena. The previous incarnation of the arena was for horses, and the paddocks are excellent places to store your crate and your dogs between competition events: there is electricity for fans, access to running water, lighting for night time, and the arena itself is a nice sandy dirt that is gentle to joints. Their equipment is superb. The best part? You don't have unload, set up, and load up again after class. The most you will have to do is change heights on the jumps or the teeter. The teachers are all agility competitors; you may have to take a beginning class multiple times to really GET it. Rules: your dog may not run around off leash unless you are running the obstacle course. This is not a playground. your dog cannot potty on the obstacle course; you need to clean it up and spray it down. your dog cannot approach other dogs in an aggressive manner; you need to keep control of your dog and defy his/her curiousity with a good control. your dog must have good "Away" and "Recall" skills (send your dog out, call them to attention) Most of this stuff you need to practice in advance, take obedience classes, or do the pre agility class (it's really early and most people who work probably couldn't do it.) If you think your dog would be good at this, you can bring them to an open event and try it out in a safe environment; you can also come to events (held almost every Saturday) to check out the people/dogs/teachers/judges. My only problem with this place is that there are no classes during the day on weekends, but that's because they host events nearly every weekend. If you and your dog are ready to go beyond fetch and chew toys, this may be the next step. Prices for 6 weeks of classes are approx. $75 (less than obedience classes!) read more

I was very disappointed in WAG. First, they showed little to no concern to my dog's safety. They didn't teach how to safely teach my dog to enter and exit obstacles or go over jumps. They also didn't bother to be sure my dog would't get hit by the teeter. As a result of being hit by the teeter while learning how to use it, my dog was terrified to go near it, and they just said agility wasn't for him. They didn't care at all about helping solve a problem they created. It has taken months of training elsewhere to help my dog get confidence on the teeter. Having gone to a new place, I can safely say agility IS for my dog. He's doing wonderfully, and is overcoming his bad early experience. Another problem with WAG is they have a distinct bias against dogs who are not traditional agility breeds. If you don't have a Border Collie, an Aussie, or a Sheltie, they will treat you like you do not belong there and could never be competitive. It was very disheartening to be treated so poorly. I now drive 45 minutes to get to a good training experience instead of 10 to go be treated with distinct disrespect. My dog has multiple titles, so it's not like he's out of control or untrainable. It just takes someone who actually cares and doesn't just wish my dog were a Border Collie. I wouldn't recommend WAG to anyone, and unless you have one of the three breeds listed above, don't waste your money. They will just treat you like you are delusional to think your dog could do agility. Go somewhere you will be treated well and where your dog's safety will be important to you and the trainers. read more

I love this place. I've been training dogs here for years, including a very soft-natured chow mix, a kelpie with the personality of a clown, and a very neurotic Belgian shepherd mix. They are good at working with dogs and handlers of different temperaments. Susan and Dave, the owners, are friendly and professional. Unlike many agility trainers, the instructors at WAG compete in and train for a variety of agility venues, including CPE, NADAC, AKC, and USDAA, often at the highest levels of national-level competition. This experience gives students many options when it comes to deciding which style of agility works best for them and their dogs. It takes a while to develop handling skills and to get a dog trained to competition level, but the sport is very fun and open the door to an incredible community of caring, supporting dog lovers. read more

I love this place! Love the classes and training staff. They are very helpful and you don't feel rushed. My dog and I get ample time on the equipment. We started with the Pre-agility class, although it is in the late afternoon, I had no problem getting there on time after work. The only problem I had was that it's on a Monday, my busiest day at work, so I'm tired. But, the class is so much fun, I forget about work! The price is good, $120 for a 7 week class. We got through the second level and are currently in the 3rd level, which starts at 8:30pm, pretty late for someone who has to get up at 4am, but again, it's so much fun, I tend to forget about everything else and just enjoy. My dog absolutely loves agility. After 3 yrs of obedience training and showing, she's found her nitch! I would suggest basic obedience first, especially recall and send out and NO sniffing the ground. I gave WAG 4 stars instead of 5 only because I think a class starting at 8:30 at nite is asking too much for a working person. But, if I work really hard, I won't have to repeat it, there's an incentive, lol. I HIGHLY recommend taking classes and competing here! It's a beautiful facility and everyone is very helpful. I've been with WAG for over a year now and have had a great experience. My dog is not a typical "agility breed" (she's a healer mix), and the classes I've been in have had a large mix of dog breeds. It is a hard sport to jump into as I was the only person in my pre-agility class with zero experience. But as long as you have an open mind and want to learn, it's great! The instructors are nice and helpful. I did have to wait about 4 months on a waiting list before joining. read more

I LOVE WAG!!!!!! I have been lucky enough to be able to take classes in Elk Grove at the WAG facility since they opened. I'm currently still running my 4th, 5th and 6th agility dogs. I have 2 corgis and a sheltie currently doing agility. My first 2 dogs were a German Shepherd and a Rottweiler. You don't need to have a Borer Collie to compete and have a great time. At WAG they train the students for all venues so they are prepared and can know what is out there for them. For years I've done only NADAC and CPE. I felt confident enough with the training I've received at WAG to try AKC for the first time...had a great time. The WAG instructors know that not all dogs and/or breeds learn things the same way or at the same level and are always there with suggestions. Whether you have an agility champion, couch potatoe or something in the middle agility is the perfect sport for you and your dog to bond, get some exercise and have an all around great time. I cherish the 2 and 4 legged friends I've met there over the years and continue to meet. All of my dogs think of WAG as the "K9 Disneyland". I love to hear them in their crates getting excited as we come down the WAG driveway knowing a tunnel is only a few yards away. WAG is the best agility instruction you'll find anywhere around. read more
