I was just fined $10 for an "Account Maintenance Fee" after withdrawing all the money in my Money Market account in order to close it. But they didn't bother to warn me about the fee when they saw that the balance fell below the minimum required for a free account. But I have three accounts--one of which supports a low dollar amount debit card that I use for small purchases at unfamiliar businesses. That way, if I got scammed, they couldn't get more than the low balance I maintain--but there has never been a fee for this account regardless of the balance. Also, I'm 72 and can't remember all the rules for three different accounts. They have plenty of resources to send promotions for their financial products but no resources for a fee warning! I tried to complain to the morons at their call center, but these low level flunkies don't care about the customers at all, and won't let me talk to a bank executive to discuss my ADA needs. So I filed an EEOC complaint against them because they allow their newest and least knowledgeable employees to make decisions that can place the bank in serious legal jeopardy. They used to promote a policy that said a customer can come to any branch and talk to the bank CEO on a secure phone line. But now you can't even get into a branch, and they won't let a lowly customer talk to a bank big shot. And they've refused numerous requests to ID their ADA Compliance Officer (or even to say if they have one). So if you expect small business values and personal service (like they had when they were hungry), then this is no longer the place for your money--because they'll take it if they can even slightly justify it. And if you're a senior citizen like me, they'll take advantage of your inability to memorize all their conflicting and confusing rules.

I absolutely love this bank! They handle all of my business banking and have been terrific with…read moretaking care of all of my businesses unique needs. While trying to get a mortgage in late 2025 I discovered a severely delinquent 25-month past due balance of $331 on my credit report from OSCU, dropping our credit substantially from 800+ to 640. The credit union did not do their due diligence to notify us of the past due amount. They claim they sent a letter in the mail (our old address and after forwarding services had ceased) and that they simply "dont have the time" to make any more effort to alert their members of past due balances. They did not attempt to contact me through any other channel and they never sent the debt to collections to be paid. The National Credit Union Administration explicitly states that institutions must have reasonable policies for member notifications, using all available contact channels (mail, phone, email) and account records to attempt outreach before reporting, particularly for small or first-time delinquencies. It is clear to me that Oregon State Credit Union does not care about their members, and they do not fulfill their responsibility to provide notice of issues. I have called several times and have been reassured by the staff that this will go away from my credit after 7 years. Totally unreasonable. It is not acceptable for long standing on-time members to pay the consequences for their failure to perform due diligence. Upon discovery, I attempted to pay this debt immediately but Oregon State Credit Union would not allow me to pay on the phone and required we bring a cashiers check or other guaranteed fund in person to pay. This was not a reasonable option as we live an hour or more away from the closest Oregon State Credit Union. I was able to pay this debt when I called back in March 2026 and was finally able to pay over the phone. You need to close your doors if you can't modernize and if you do not have the proper staffing to make good faith and reasonable attempts for payment.

One of…read morethe main reasons for having a joint account--my wife actually used a different account at a different bank--was so that funds would be available in an emergency, such as the death of a spouse. My ATM card did not work, and I was informed at the counter that this was because my wife had died and so the account was suspended. Whether the bank does this solely to annoy customers or whether there was a reason, I don't know. What I do know was that the bank learned of my wifes death the day before when I was making a sizeable deposit, and no one even hinted at that time that there would be problems with the account. I also tried to get some documents notarized at the bank, something they point out as a benefit of having an account there. They say they won't notarize documents dealing with wills and trusts because of their liability. They used to do this, and they couldn't explain how certifying that the signature was actually mine made them liable unless the signature itself was false. These are the latest things Citizens Bank has thought up to annoy customers. On the other hand, I am getting an interest rate from them that will double my money every four thousand years.

The teller was taking an inordinate amount of time and asking me questions that clearly showed she was confused about something. I asked what was going on and she said "we have to be very careful with these government checks. It was actually a distribution from another financial institution. I asked for the manager, who came out and addressed me like I was engaged in something criminal. Haven Seltman wouldn't tell me what was going on, and being quite haughty that I would dare to ask. Where's the customer service? They make more from my money than I do, and I don't need to be treated like that. I pointed out that I could have deposited the check at the ATM, and not have my time wasted like that. She handed back the check and told me to deposit it outside so my precious time wouldn't be wasted. I pointed out I have a third of a million bucks in that account, and I could take it elsewhere. As I was walking out, she called after me "we don't want customers like you, good riddance!" So, I'm taking my money elsewhere. You should too.
