...revisited the Krauted Haus supperclub for the first time in awhile and Sam and Sophie are still…read moredoing a fantastic job. the spot has since moved to Neukölln, but the vibe is still the same - intimate, casual, and light-hearted. this theme was celebrating "fairground classics with a gourmet twist" and they knocked it out of the park with a creative take on American summer fair goodies and autumn comfort food, ranging through maple pumpkin soup + spicy marshmallow, to greens with popcorn+apple croutons+boiled peanuts, to cola braised ribs+waffle fries, to apple cider funnel cake with spiked root beer floats.
where some bits stumbled, other bits balanced and soared: the greens were a *bit* over-dressed and soggy, but the popcorn+apple+peanut combo was a great surprise; the root beer floats were a bit overpoweringly alcoholic (..not bad in some ways...), but the funnel cake and ribs were so yummy i saw people actually licking their plates. i'm happy to accept the risks Sam+Sophie take when the successes are this good! the cost may seem steep for a dinner in this area --€45 with insightful+fantastic beer-pairings for each course, €35 without-- but, whereas i've attended pricier and less satisfying supperclubs in the city, every single one of us tonight left full and happy and having made new friends. definitely worth it!
