Ten times each year they stage exhibits in their three, adjoining galleries, located in the ArtSpace building in the River Market. Their showings are sometimes individual artists and other times regionally selected groups of artists, including their annual student shows highlighting the works of emerging college students. Besides presenting exhibits, they serve their professional creative membership with seminars and classes on marketing, accounting, the law pertaining to the business of art, grant writing and submitting for public art commissions. They also serve as a resource center in introducing voluminous catalogues of the works of their members to prospective buyers, including corporations, designers and discerning individuals. They are just completing a new addition, an artist(s) in residency studio, which will provide living and working facilities for artists selected from around the globe. What an exciting, under the radar, opportunity for Kansas City to reach the world! It's one of my favorite places to view art in KC, up there with the Nelson. Calm, inviting, and I always feel as though I can look for hours without anyone feeling the need to "inform and advise". However, if I have questions or comments, the staff is always ready to offer what they may. Another nearly hidden gem.

Recently I bought a new Lyman Whitaker wind sculpture from Leopold Gallery. They threw in a bottle…read moreof wine, a Malbec, which I appreciated and enjoyed. The wind sculpture was delivered about a month ago when I was out doing errands, so Jose wasn't able to bring it in for me as he normally would. Brian, my lovely next door neighbor, brought it in for me, It sat in its box, along w/ the box containing the poles, in my dining room until the weather cleared and Brian had time to install it. He came over last week, then discovered he didn't have the brackets he needed to attach it to the deck railing. My brother Jim attached my other wind sculpture to the deck railing w/ zip ties several years ago but those failed during high winds a few months ago and Brian reaffixed it to the railing, using brackets which will outlive me. He ordered more and was able to come over yesterday and install the new one. When he finished he observed that it looked like a menorah, which I hadn't noticed, but it does. I can see it from my seat at the dining table and if I stand up I can see it from my office window and I love the way it looks. Brian can see it from his deck. I'm going to be sending photos of it to Paul, who owns the gallery, so he can see how it looks.

First Fridays is this organic event that is ever evolving into something better. Art installations,…read moremusic, hands on community involvement, food and drinks. Fire dancers, graffiti artists, pop up bands, drinks on the patio, it can be whatever experience appeals to you the most. The art galleries are always there even in the winter with their doors open. Block after block with something new. Vendors, sometimes free samples or live bands or watching an artist create something. Of course their is always the people watching which is a sport unto it self. It definitely started with the focus being on the art but it's grown into so much more. Feels more all inclusive but I do believe this is in large part to a creativity that really resonates and keeps people coming back but also participating. Perfectly acceptable to go solo, date, group, family friends, kids, all are accounted for. You don't have to start the night out with a meal, but that's usually the route I go and than walk it off. Coffee, beer, wine, popsicles, ice cream, chocolate shops it's all available. Parking! Yikes! That can be rough but persistence will pay off and if you don't mind walking a spot will eventually materialize. Their are some parking garages available and with the street car available that might help, just allow for the extra time.

Kim Weinberger personally informed me that the paintings had been sold, but I have still not received the payments owed to me. I have contacted Kim several times by email, text message, and WhatsApp regarding the outstanding payments. I was told that I would receive the money when her house was sold. However, my understanding is that this is not consistent with the payment terms outlined in our agreement. I am still waiting for payment or a clear explanation of when the outstanding payments will be made. I have tried repeatedly to resolve this directly and privately, but I have not received a response to my last three messages. I am sharing my experience so other artists can make an informed decision when considering working with Weinberger Fine Art and Kim Weinberger.

When you walk in, you're greeted by a friendly receptionist. To the left is the archives area, filled with lots of interesting history. To the right was the Life of a Film Critic exhibit, which was both fun and interesting to explore. It tells the story of Shawn Edwards from WDAF-TV, whose movie reviews I've watched for years. He's much more than just the movie review guy. There's also a coffee shop and a WNBA exhibit to explore. It's definitely a spot not to be missed for anyone who enjoys learning a bit of history.
