Saturday after breakfast I was fortunate to be just a skip down from the gallery. I walked in through the garage doors. The Gallery itself is spacious. I enjoyed featured artists like Hunt Slonem and Joe Ramiro Garcia. The art on view is fun and unique. I would definitely recommend strolling in if you're in the area - it's a great way to brighten your day! Perfect place to stop if you are an art collector! read more

JJ W. loves the art, but doesn't like the space. I, on the other hand, love the space but don't particularly care for the art. Modern art needs to be in a subversive, un-cozy space. It's the best way to display it. Blue Gallery does this without being cold and off-putting. That is great. That being said, it's a gallery that mostly focuses on nudes and if that's not something you're a fan of, you might not be a fan of the art. There are some great abstract pieces and most important of all, it's a place where we can support working artists, so check it out. It's an easy, wonderful location in the Crossroads. read more

Blue Gallery is one of KC's finer contemporary art galleries. The art was the standout but the gallery was on the gloomy side. The gallery just doesn't seem like a gallery. Does that make sense? The garage style door windows let in so much light, smothering that romantic quality that I've always associated with more dimly lit galleries. For me, the lights should be on the pieces, almost guiding you home as if on a lonely stretch of road. Blue Gallery turned another old-building into a modern (let's use cool, black track-lighting) space that just seems inappropriate and too similar to every building down in the Crossroads. Did they all get together and decide to have the same interior decorator? Despite the atmosphere, the art was the best part. Works by Rich Bowman (who I have fallen in love with) and Lisa Lala really made the trip worth it. For a contemporary art gallery, it showed little range and the pieces were hardly that provactive and forward-thinking in my opinion. While there, I wasn't brought any information by the curator on staff and was disappointed by her lack of attention in such a small space and with few people there. It's still an ok outing with a few nice pieces to be had if you got the cash. read more

My favorite gallery in KC. It makes me feel like I'm not in Kansas City and makes me appreciate all the great artists we have in the area, as Blue represents a lot of local talent. Even though a portion of the art could I only aspire to afford, I love that there really is quite a range. They actually have some really affordable pieces. They even came to install a painting I purchased. It's a great place to start building a collection and support Kansas City artists. read more

I have been a fan of Blue Gallery for years! I would say without hesitation that they are one of the top galleries in Kansas City. The gallery itself is beautiful. I love the open nature of the space, and the massive windows that make up the entire south wall fill the room with fantastic light. Everything is clean and crisp, the ideal setting for checking out some new art. Speaking of art, this gallery typically has some fantastic shows. It doesn't do much good to get into the specifics within a Yelp review, as their shows are constantly changing, but it's typically incredibly well curated collections of contemporary art. While they represent people from around the country (and possibly the world? I don't know... ), they also rep some fantastic artists from right here in KC such as Peregrine Honig and Bernard Koehrsen. Moral of the story: Blue Gallery is an excellent place to visit if you are in the market for contemporary art. Check it out! read more

I always like going into Blue Gallery and seeing what's up. I miss their old spot (now 'Extra Virgin') but this new spot is pretty cool too. It's next to Hammerpress, and has some cool garage doors on front. This place is not as edgy as some galleries in the crossroads, but they always have nice paintings of landscapes and clouds etc. Nice place. They let you take pictures! I visited this art gallery recently, and I knew what to expect since I'd checked out their website beforehand. If there are types of paintings/artwork that offend you, I'd recommend checking out the website as well. Even though some of the artwork wasn't my style at ALL, it was provocative, and the most 'offensive' and ummm...revealing piece of artwork, had some interesting themes and undertones, if you could pick the artwork apart piece by piece. There were some pieces that were also appealing to me, although I tend more to the mainstream/Impressionism/Surrealism/European arts. The gallery has a nice clean feel, and was arranged in a good manner, easily flowing. I'm with Stephen H on this one. :) read more

My first First Friday, and our first stop was the Blue Gallery. Obvious, everyone else started there too... It had a HUGE turnout, though I think their stand of free hors d'oevres maybe helped them a bit. How can you turn down free bruschetta and wine? Inside the gallery, looks can be deceiving. It looked smallish from the outside, but in, it was way expansive! Lots of wall space, lots of roaming space, and lots of light. I'm sure on a day other than First Friday, this place is very comfortable--but I felt really cramped. Maybe make this place one of your latter stops in the night (though, they may run out of food...) Honestly, I can't remember the art very well (it was the first stop on a full art crawl), but I do remember paintings and sculptures of the modern variety. read more

Blue Gallery is an awesome contemporary art gallery in the Crossroads. It seems to be a full time business instead of a wealthy housewives weekend and First Friday hobby! They have been a part of the neighborhood for over a decade now (originally located in the current Extra Virgin spot) and always seem to participate in the First Fridays festivities. I always find an artists work that I seem to like. I would love to see more "male figure" subject art work, they seem to always be heavy on the female form and subject. I love the space and that there is a dog running around, love that. The one thing that always stands out like a sore thumb though is the 80's desk and candy dish in this otherwise hip and modern space, but that's just a personal observation and doesn't take away from how great of a gallery this is. Blue Gallery is a favorite of mine after visiting April's First Friday event. Its a great open space with a variety of contemporary art. We missed the free hors d'oevres so apparently we missed the crowds which is a good thing since FF can be so annoyingly croweded in some of the galleries. I loved the landscape exhibit along with the contemporary version of Adam and Eve, erotic and funny at the same time. I also noticed a great majority of the crowd was drawn to the xrated moving sculptures on display. We loved watching everyone's reactions. I can't wait to see what exhibits Blue Gallery will have next. read more

I also hired Kelly Kuhn (owner of Blue Gallery) to curate my collection for my office and my home.
