This store is unique. People often confuse them with Aquarius, and while they share the same space, they are two separate entities. When you go inside (from the front entrance) and look to your right, and see the jewelry, that is Vulcans Forge! They sell, repair, and make custom design jewelry you won't find anywhere else. If there is something in particular that you want and they don't have it in store, they will order it for you. if you have a custom design of your own, they will make it for you so that you have something that is uniquely yours! For example, I had them custom make for me a triquetra knotwork pendant carved from slab of tigers eye on both sides. It may have taken them a bit longer than estimated, but I had the advantage of knowing who was making my pendant,,, My soon to be Precious! When they presented me with final product, I lit up like a kid in a candy store, The craftsmanship was just perfect. When people saw it, their jaws dropped when I told them that it was hand made. To bring this home in the form that it is unique, They told me how they had to invent tools to do make this happen., Jewelers are used to dealing with metals, like silver, gold, platinum, etc. Stone is cut to fit jewelry, not carved into intricate design as pendants. Other jewelers would say that they can engrave the image, but I wanted the stone to be the image. Post rapture, I decided to invest what I could into some mysticism and possibly some kick ass jewelry, cause, I always like to be prepared. Having been both warned and advised about this store, I knew it was time. I must have a semi expensive jewelry finding magnet in me somewhere, probably implanted with that chip in my brain. I bee-lined for the good stuff. Claddaghs, skull rings, sterling silver, stones an such were in my sights. A very nice but skeptical gentleman helped me and showed me almost every display of rings on that side of the store. I tried on everything and destiny led me to a big, beautiful, bad-ass skull ring. I choose it for two reasons, 1) not sure which side of the rapture I'll be on so, dress appropriately and 2) go big or go home. The other side of the store were skulls, purposed for other reasons, (i.e. luck, representing a move into higher consciousness, owning a cool skull, etc.) Additionally, incense, capes(!), books, banners, Buddhas, jewelry, chalices, religious and non-religious objects! All at pretty reasonable prices. I bought a jar(?) with a Wiccan symbol on it to keep my skull ring in. I figure it'll cover all my bases that way. Another cool store on Broadway worth checking out. Also, the jewelry side is a full service jewelry store, they can create things, size existing jewelry and even buy your old stuff. They use local artists and are a unique local store. Vulcan's Forge is an eclectic fine jewelry shop that occupies the north side of this shared space. They offer many beautiful & interesting pieces -- a huge assortment of religious/spiritual jewelry. I had problems ordering a custom piece, however. They took my deposit (over half the cost of the piece) and promised it in two weeks -- and they would call me if it was completed earlier. After two weeks, having heard nothing from the shop, I called to inquire about it. They were having trouble getting the clasp, it was allegedly on backorder from their supplier. OK, fine, these things happen; call me when it's ready. Four weeks, nothing. I finally called to ask again. Still on backorder. Six weeks, nothing. I was starting to get a little nervous, I wanted to wear it for a special occasion, and thought I had ordered in plenty of time. Now my event was looming & I still hadn't heard anything. I called & explained what was happening. No, they still didn't have the clasp. (I had to wear another piece of statement jewelry for my event.) Over Eight Weeks. Still nothing. I called again, and they were apologetic, but they thought I didn't want it anymore. So they had CANCELLED THE ORDER. Didn't bother to notify me, or refund my deposit. It took several more rounds of phone calls before I could get my money back, because apparently no one except the manager is authorized to do a refund, and he wouldn't come to the phone -- it was always "let me take your number and call you back." I am gravely disappointed in a store that was recommended highly to me. I had hoped to get my custom jewelry done locally, but I won't be shopping here any more. read more

Park on Broadway directly in front of the store, take a deep breath if you don' t like the smell of patchoulli, walk through the door, go past the moonstones, gems and dreamcatchers and take a right to the jewelry section. There you will find some extremely kind and helpful gentlemen ready to make your broken jewelry blues go away. Three of my favorite pair of earrings have been broken for at least a month. On a whim I called VF...yes they do repair...yes I can come right in. One earring was all tangled and I had spent way too much time and frustration trying to straighten it out. One was a minor repair. The third...the post had broken off a pair I have had since high-school (gulp). Result: all was repaired in the time I drove home, ate lunch, let the pups out and drove back to the store. 45 min tops. And, all three repairs cost me a mere $22 something with tax. Firstly, you must understand that Vulcan's Forge and Aquarius Bookstore are two shops sharing one building space. Vulcan's Forge is on the North side (right side, once entering the door) of the store and they only do jewelry. Fantastic jewelry! It's a large selection of jewelry representing and celebrating all paths of spirituality and religions. But if that's not your 'thing', not to worry. They also have traditional pieces as well. They have a design and repair shop on site and the artisans there are top notch. If you have a design in mind, just sketch it out and they can make your idea become a reality. The first time I wandered into Vulcan's Forge, they resized my shitty Timex wristwatch for me, FREE OF CHARGE. "Are you serious?" Yes, you guys, I am totally serious. Then I bought a bunch of Wiccan rocks just 'cause I was like, "you guys are amazing, let me buy some rocks." I like going here. I'm curious about having my aura photographed. The book section makes me a little sad. Get more books, guys! Books are amazing. Everyone is super-nice and sweet and helpful. Vulcan's Forge is a shop that seems to have a little bit of a personality disorder. Now, don't get me wrong; that's not necessarily a bad thing, though it did initially throw me off a little bit. Based on their website, I was expecting more of an independent jeweler's shop, and there is indeed jewelry there, but a good 1/2 of the store is also dedicated to all things new age/Wiccan/mystical. This place gets 3 stars just for the sheer variety of things on offer. The shop is bigger than I had expected (I was assuming that the half of the store where the jewelry is located would be the entire store for some reason), and it does smell heavily of incense when you walk in (causing some muted gagging from my husband, who is not so into the odor of patchouli). I checked out the jewelry side of the store first, and there is quite a large selection of mainly sterling silver and semi precious stone jewelry. There were also some loose stones on sale, and I imagine that you could work with a jeweler to create something one of a kind, if you were so inclined. I did see some pieces I liked, and was told that a silver ring I liked (but was too big) could be re-sized if need be, so that was nice. Prices range from reasonable to fairly high for what's on offer. Most of the pieces I saw didn't look unique to the shop, so I'd probably look elsewhere before purchasing anything, but I'm a thrifty sort who likes to shop around. After I was done perusing the jewelry we wandered into the metaphysical side of the shop. There was quite a lot of interesting stuff there, from things no good Wiccan should probably be without to books, knickknacks, candles, incense, etc. My husband was able to keep himself occupied in the book section while I browsed, and I was happy to see that there was a variety of items that I could see purchasing as gifts for friends both witchy and not. I think that even people unfamiliar with this sort of store would have no problem finding something they liked in here, and I overheard one of the staff people going out of her way to describe the difference between Tarot cards and Oracle cards to a couple of slightly bewildered shoppers. There also appeared to be someone in the store doing some sort of palm or tarot reading, which was interesting. Even though it wasn't what I initially expected, I would come back into Vulcan's Forge to wander around and see what was on offer from time to time. read more

I went in to Vulcans Forge with a strange request. I asked the jewelry department to make me a Memorial ring out my moms hair. It was a sensitive time. The staff was very kind, understanding and very confident they could make me the Victorian style ring I was seeking. First round the ring was gorgeous, but the quartz crystal cracked after about 2 months. They promptly fixed it with a stronger quartz, and even added additional gold to create a lip to the main circle to prevent from cracking. They also agreed to change the design for me to fit more of my vision. They created a spiral braid from the hair instead of the loose hair. The extra gold lip, and the braid created so much old charm and beauty to it! I couldn't have imagined it becoming any prettier, then it did! They made all these changes free of charge. The work is not fast, but it's quality. All good things happen for those who wait. I couldn't be more in love with it! This ring helps keep my mom with me, and adds a beautiful piece of white gold jewelry that goes with everything I wear. I get a lot of questions about it, everyone is always in aw of it's meaning and its beauty! Strongly recommend these artists. They really work for you, and they don't cut corners! read more

I was born in Kansas City and have lived here most of my 35 years. I work in Westport and have never stepped foot (or even thought about it) in Vulcan's Forge. Honestly a lot of the little shops on Broadway seem a little dodgy and I don't generally find myself strolling down Broadway like I might in Brookside. I recently had to purchase a medical bracelet for myself (super yay) and needed to get it sized. I did a search for jewelry shops in the area so I could get this done on my lunch break. Vulcan's Forge came up and after reading the reviews, I called to make sure I could just drop by. The gentleman on the phone was very friendly and told me to drop by anytime. I parked on Broadway (during lunchtime), right in front of the store and walked right in. The jewelry side was directly to my right, and the gentleman I spoke with earlier helped me right away. While he was getting my bracelet sized I took some time to stroll around. They offer a beautiful and eclectic selection of fine jewelry, some absolutely amazing stones. The other side of the store was a mystic type store, they even had someone reading tarot cards. The smell of incense wasn't overpowering to me, I loved it. I really enjoyed the cool vibe of the store, everyone was nice, knowledgeable and professional. The jeweler fitted my bracelet perfectly to size and took the time to make sure I was happy with the fit. All in all I spend $10 and 10 minutes and both were absolutely worth it. I will definitely be back to Vulcan's Forge and I would recommend them to anyone looking for a high quality jeweler in an eclectic setting. read more

My wife and I had Vulcans Forge do our custom rings for our wedding 9 years ago. They designed the rings as we requested, we cam in to see the reverse molds and approved them a couple weeks later. Prices were good, as platinum is never cheap, we were treated well and the nice part comes 8.5 years later one of the 7 small stones fell out of the ring for my wife (small stone under 1/2 carat) I took the ring in for repair and old them to replace the stone and just call for approval if the repair would be more then $200. 2 weeks later i called to see if it was ready (as scheduled), but they said that Byron 0r Russell (forge/jeweler) was not happy with it and needed another week. No problem, the wife and I went int to pickup the next week and the staff were trying to find an invoice as I was ready to pay for the work.....But, apparently Russell and or Byron refused to charge us for the repair work, saying that it really should not have lost the stone. SO what you can take away from this review? They do nice work, and they really stand behind it. I was trying to pay for work they essentially refused to charge for. Not saying that every design and piece is going to be repaired after warranty like this one, but it was awesome to see this much pride in their work. read more

I can't say enough good things about Vulcan's Forge. It's the 4th of July and my wedding band is stuck on my swollen finger. I used Windex, vaseline, soap and water, Holy oil, olive oil, dental floss, elastic band . Nothing worked. The swelling got worse. I was determined not to make a trip to the emergency room. ( 50.00 copay plus bills from several departments:-) I googled for a jeweler that was open today and not too far away. I spoke to Michelle O'Neill. Her voice was so comforting as she told me that their Jeweler would take care of it, free of charge!!! Unbelievable. We were greeted by Michelle and Cynthia Hynes. They are sales associates. Professional, upbeat, bubbly. I requested to cut the ring off. I didn't want to feel any more pain. Dr.:-) Jeweler, Byron Phillips came to my rescue. He is truly Amazing. He explained the process , in detail. I didn't feel anything and it was over in a flash. In a couple of weeks he will repair my ring. The store is huge and very unique. It is truly a hidden gem.
