Anders renovated my bathroom and created an ensuite. I've renovated the whole house, room by room…read moreas I can afford each stage, and can confidently say after working with a lot of tradies by now, that he is an outstanding builder. His price point isn't low but it isn't high either. Actually by the end I thought he had really underquoted me, given the quality of the work and how much time he put into it. There were no hidden surprises in the final bill and he fixed anything I wasn't happy with as we went along (very few things) without fuss or extra expense. He had lots of ideas for special and cool features and I am so happy with the final result. The job took longer than he originally estimated, not because he took off for other work but because he has exceptional attention to detail and won't settle for anything less than a perfect finish. He discussed every aspect of the job and every decision in detail (maybe too much detail!) and managed the other tradies (plumber, sparky). It's been about a year now since the renovation and I am still thrilled with it. Anders is incredibly honest, transparent and accountable - so refreshing! I wouldn't hesitate to recommend him and will definitely hire him for any new projects as well as any little jobs around the house if he's available (I've had him back to rehang a couple of doors that have come out of alignment).

Helpful, informed, knowledgeable, friendly and have a huge array of product to sell. Doubling as a paint shop and decorating centre, this is the place to head for advice and ideas on renovating, painting, and all things decorating. They have a full choice of paint on site, and can tint to whatever shade you desire, as any good paint show should. I have picked up a couple of mis-tints here that perfectly fitted my needs, so my relationship with this store got off to a good start. I have been back for basic painting and sanding supplies a few times since. That is all lovely, but it is decorating that Bristol comes into its own. With many thousands of wall paper samples, God only knows how many swatches of other options, and helpful staff, this is a decorator or renovator's dream.

I love my new blinds and curtains I ordered through the Curtain Machine. As a younger new home…read moreowner I haven't ever bought blinds before yet the process was easy. I ordered some great plantation shutters for my bathroom and they turned out great,. Really stylish and great quality and wasn't that expensive. Then we got some curtains for the bedrooms and it was so nice to have a huge selection of fabrics to choose from. There would have been a whole wall of fabric swatches to choose from which was great at the Essendon showroom. We live in Brunswick and had the whole house done and I love the new feel of our house. The whole project cost around $6000 which was great value as we got some more expensive fabrics to last us the next 5-10 years.

Jump aboard the lift (attended by a lovely chap with cute family pics adoring his 'office') to explore the other levels and you will uncover all kinds of creative and kooky stores and galleries. I took my Mum here to hunt down a fabric store and she was in seventh heaven. She ended up raiding more than one unique fabric store and walking out shaking her head at the unexpected damage to her credit card. The building is a tad creepy, with many vacant or blocked off rooms that give you the distinct feeling that you're trespassing. All part of the charm really!

The Nicholas Building on the corner of Swanston Walk and Flinders Lane is a living cultural center…read more I'm often going there to see exhibitions at Pigment Gallery, Blindside or Stephen McLaughlan Gallery. Many artists, fashion designers and jewelers have their studios and exhibition spaces in the rooms of the Nicholas Building. The late, eccentric and artist Vali Meyers once had her studio on the 8th floor of the building. It is also the home of Collected Works bookstore, the best bookshop for quality literature in Melbourne and many other interesting shops. It is a wonderful old building, even in it's partially decaying state that is well worth a visit itself. Entering Cathedral Arcade with its set of boutique shops and the wonderful lead light ceiling. I have the choice of taking the stairs or one of two old lifts. One of the lifts has a lift attendant and the lift attendant has decorated the small lift with postcards and pictures. The other lift is also manually operated and you have to open and close the doors yourself. Walking down the stairs I notice the defunct mail chute in the stairwell and the antique elevators speak of another era of city office life. Many of the tiles are falling off, some of the stair rail has gone in places, but the building still has great character.
