We have owned Volvos for 30 years and have an XC60 in northern Florida. Last week we were in Ft. Lauderdale for a family memorial service. We had serious timeline constraints to get back to St. Augustine, but upon starting our return our XC60 had some engine cut-out problems. With help from family and locals we were pointed to VOLVOSTOP. It was one of the best recommendations we ever had. When we called VOLVOSTOP we were put in direct communication with a Master Volvo Mechanic, who took us in, told us how to safely get our car to his shop, where he diagnosed the problem rapidly, expedited a part delivery, installed and tested it, and we were on our way in 3 hours!! UNBELIEVABLE! As we left he gave us a card, and with a pleasant smile said,"Call Mr anytime about your Volvos, not kidding". Since then we relocated to Vermont for the summer. Today we had a barrage of alert signals from our XC90. Our local Volvo Dealer takes weeks to get into. I thought "why not?", took out the card, called the Master Mechanic and by listening to the alert sequence he shared a pretty good idea that it was a sensor issue. He then advised that we didn't need to go to the Volvo dealer, and described the type of automotive service shop that could handle it. We found one, and we are off and running. Well being impartial to European automobiles and owning the oddball Saab(RIP!) and many a Volvo (85-99) I have learned just because a shop specializes in a "certain" variety/flavor of car that doesn't necessarily mean they know what they are under the hood. Once money exchanges hands and backs are patted with a proverbial "your cars ready for the road" that's when you really know the job was done right. Proof is on the asphalt! I drive an oddball Volvo a V40 wagon not very common in S. Florida and I really wanted a mechanic I could confide in. I read about Volvo Stop and their customers reviews seem genuine so I rolled the dice! The owner is friendly, knowledgeable and his shop is organized. These are very important as I detest walking into a auto repair shop where the owner looks like he needs to be on meds and his shop is akin to a WWII minefield an experience Ive been pleasantly (un)accustomed to in South Florida. So far Ive had some standard maintenance done to my V40 and I have to admit I am satisfied with the workmanship and professional demeanor of the business. I've been bringing my 2008 Volvo XC90 to Volvostop for a year now and every time I bring it in I get it back in perfect working condition. But I went on tour for a few months and didn't leave it in a place that animals wouldn't get into it. Because of that, fairly recently my engine was considered a hazard to drive around and when I took it into the dealership they wouldn't cover anything leaving me in the dust and quoting me a ridiculous price, I should've known better going to them first. Then, explaining to Paul my situation, he was more than happy to work with my vehicle giving me HONEST estimates and his honest thoughts throughout the whole process even getting my car finished within his estimated labor time! He let me know every step during the process, like giving me a call explaining that I need a part now before even putting it in; rather than putting it in then it showing up on my bill when I got there without me knowing. I can't say enough about the exceptional experience I had at The Volvo Stop this week. My S40 T5 needed to have the PCV Unit replaced; a fact that Schumacher Volvo of The Palm Beaches first alerted me to, a couple of months ago. When they quoted me a price in excess of $850.00 to do the job, I figured I would check other Volvo dealers to compare prices, since Schumacher had told me that it wasn't necessarily urgent, but should be done within a few months. The two other Volvo dealerships that I contacted were immediately less than Schumacher by a couple hundred dollars. While looking up the other dealerships to get their phone numbers online, I came across the listing for The Volvo Stop. I called the number and the owner, Paul, answered the phone. What a difference! Friendly, extremely knowledgeable, and amazingly straightforward in quoting a price that was half the Schumacher quote! Upon arriving at the Volvo Stop, Paul greeted me along with one of his service techs who proceeded to begin work, while Paul went to get the parts necessary for the job directly from the Volvo dealership nearby! The job was completely finished, along with a complete inspection of my car within 2 and 1/2 hours. A couple of other things were pointed out that need future attention, I was given the bill and NO attempt to sell me any unnecessary work! Paul told me to call him and come back whenever I wanted to have anything done to my car. Authentic OEM Volvo Parts, Volvo-trained techs, and a parts and labor guarantee! I am so happy that I have finally found an honest home for my Volvo C70. I have been getting hosed by the dealerships using their "soft sale" tactics, to charge for non-needed repairs. Paul (The Manager) is pleasant, patient, and HONEST! He will honestly tell you everything that you immediately need for your vehicle. He stands by the " If it ain't broke, don't fix it." logic. Most of all he will work with you. I was shown every defective part that was replaced on my vehicle without even having to ask. Maybe it's me and I'm crazy but this place has not given the stellar service I've been reading about here. First, some years ago I had a problem with the convertible top going up on my 2000 Volvo c-70 with 40k. They repaired a sensor problem ( $600 ) but the walnut veneer on the shifter was damaged in doing so. Impossible to find someone to repair and to replace it would be conservatively at least $750, if not more. I felt his prices were not much different from the dealer plus it was unethical of him not to be responsible and stand up for the collateral damage to the vehicle. Then, because of the reviews on Yelp and a co-worker who praised Paul I thought I might use him again when the car went into limp home mode and would not hold a charge. The repair cost$1,100 for an alternator and sensor plus a new battery. I thought it was a bit high perhaps even more than the dealer. Book value is only about 4K. He must have also thought it ridiculous because he was laughing when he called to tell me. The car's check engine light was on when I first drove it so I called him and he said "if the car is running okay it's just a loose gas cap or vacuum problem, don"t worry." I felt as though I was bothering him with my issue and neglected to pursue it further. This car is seldom used, garaged and I religiously take it for an hour outing weekly. Three or four months have passed and the battery is dead and won't take a charge. I would bring it back to him but considering my experience I am afraid that it would incur an additional exorbitant bill plus his laugh- in your- face dismissive attitude. No Thanks! I feel humiliated as is. My wife is pissed at me for bringing it to him for a second go. When you pay close to dealer prices for second class work you might as well go to the dealer who actually (1) guarantee their work and (2) will stand up to any damage they may do incidentally. If you go here you might as well just throw your money down the john. I mean Paul. read more

Took my Volvo there because it was shaking when accelerating. They diagnosed that I need a new or rebuilt transmission. Estimate was about 4 to 5 k based on which way I want to go. I did not authorize the repair and lucky I did not as it turned out that I need a new fuel filter. Hard to believe that it was an honest mistake. I am glad the fix was 23 dollars and 10 minutes labor instead of a new tranny. Watch out and always get a second opinion. read more

Having had enough of the incredulously high repair bills from the local Volvo dealership, I found Volvo Stop on the internet and very gladly so. When I first brought my car there for service, I noted that during their initial look-over of the engine the gentleman there vacuumed away the accumulated leaves that were blocking the air intake, and to my newly informed amazement it occurred to me that the dealership service department never minded about this condition during their years of expensive maintenance visits. At reasonable cost and with obvious care about their work, the men at Volvo Stop brought our Volvo up to speed, and quite literally so. The engine's appearance too was greatly enhanced by Volvo Stop as it was very evidently cleaned and made to look as new as practically possible.
