Perfect spot for breakfast or lunch -- just don't sleep in too late because they close at 3pm! I grabbed a sandwich, a cup of soup, and a drink for around $15, which felt like a steal considering the good vibes included free of charge. Everyone working there genuinely seemed happy to be there, and the enthusiasm was so strong we actually had to defend our food from an adorably overachieving employee trying to clear the table before we were finished. Honestly, if the whole world had that level of work ethic, we'd all be retired by now. Do yourself a favor and stop by Hugs -- good food, amazing mission, and enough positivity to restore your faith in humanity for at least the rest of the afternoon!

The Hug's Cafe tumblers and hoodies for sale were extra bonus because we also received hugs from Rickey with the tumbler purchase. There was also outdoor seating out front but it was set for small tables of two so we sat by the window inside instead to enjoy the sunny day. We will definitely be back again!

I worked in the Information Center (IC). I barely learned anything about social work. Making phone calls and providing people resources for shelter is the ONLY thing I learned. I spent all of my time in the IC giving clients their mail, badges, unclogging toilets, toilet paper, baby products, hair care products, cleaning products, and over the counter meds which has nothing to do with social work. My field supervisor (Brandy) told me and my field liaison that I was going to learn about intakes in March, and then she turned around and said that I will be learning about intakes starting in June. My field supervisor terminated me in April and claimed that I was not upbeat, had poor social skills, and depressed. I regret discussing my depression and what I was going through at home to employees, and I had no idea that you could get terminated for that. But see, I never worked before, and so I am new to the workplace. I regret telling people who I don't know about my personal life, and oftentimes, I have a habit of ranting and getting things off of my chest, but I still believe that I shouldn't have gotten fired over that. It's whatever, I guess! My positive attitude and work ethic are what matters. I also noticed that I was the only social work intern who did not get a chance to learn about case management, and I believe it's due to the fact that I am Black. One of the directors (Misty) said that I looked depressing and intimidating. I should have reported her for saying that to me because her comment about me was very disrespectful and bigoted. Employees and interns in the IC should NOT be handling client's prescribed medications. Samaritan Inn needs to be reported! I was kind, respectful, and worked hard. I worked so hard there for no pay, and what did I get? Nothing, but a stupid thank you card in the mail. Ridiculous! Please DO NOT come to this place. You'll definitely regret it.

Below is a recommendation letter I wrote for the organization for a fund raising application that sums up why the residents of McKinney Texas with young children who love art should check out YOUNG AT ART CHILDREN'S CREATIVE CENTER (www.youngatartmckinney.org). Young at Art provides a very nurturing environment for artisitc experimentation and development. They provide access to various mediums and techniques that go beyond the simple art projects typically found in a children's art class. The staff at the center are very encouraging and caring and help children experiment beyond standard techniques and styles. Additionally, their philosophy and teaching practices encourage the children to participate in their commnity by hosting events that allow the children to participate in the local OB Christmas Parade and in art projets that become part of the community such as window murals and the mural at the OB Gas Station. The art school is a very special place for the students where they can feel at home and accepted, but get to make messes and create masterpieces. I believe that all children benefit from exposure to creating and experiencing art. With the reduction of art classes in public schools, outside community art schools provide an opportunity for children to experience the creativity and joy of art. Young at Art provides this opportunity to the local children of Ocean Beach and Point Loma. They offer scholarships for students who are unable to afford the cost of classes and bring together groups of children who might not otherwise interact. The staff at the school fosters caring and consideration of each child toward their classmates and encourages collaboration amoung the students. If you have a young child who would benefit from attending an art class or camp you should call and talk to Miss Kim the director! I'm sure you will be glad you did.

Every week, the store offers sales on certain items that are marked with a colored tag, so bargains are easy to spot. In addition to home building materials and supplies, you can also find fantastic furniture. I recently purchased my dining room table and chairs there at the cost of $300, and when I looked it up online, I discovered that the set had been made by a very famous furniture designer and was worth thousands of dollars! If you like to refinish furniture, there are plenty of items there that you will love. There are also lots of knick-knacks/collectible pieces, picture frames, gorgeous rugs, various doors and shutters, and appliances that have been tested to ensure that they work well. One time, I found a stellar file cabinet for only $5! My entire kitchen was re-tiled last year and the tiles came from this store. Please see photo below! These tiles retailed for over $40 per square foot; I bought them here at $4.99/sq. ft. brand new! Don't miss the deals in front of the store; one can often find patio furniture, new bathtubs, and lots of other great items. This store is run by volunteers and they are almost always pleasant and friendly.

Visiting Angels was reached last weekend via Tina to set up an appointment for Shannon to visit this morning. No one showed up, and multiple calls went unanswered to find out why. We were advised they didn't have the care plan needs in hand (it was already sent) or the telephone number for where our parents are residing (it was already sent). Shannon - who finally called back 90 minutes after she had been scheduled to be at their front door - was unhelpful and rude, insisting the difficulty was our fault and not theirs. Highly recommend you seek a different provider. Taking care of our elders is a difficult - and sometimes heartbreaking - task, but the level of caregivers can make the difference between frustration and neglect or a warm and comforting environment for them. Choose wisely in your consideration of which agency to hire. Happy holidays to you and your loved ones.
