The story I'm about to relay to you is true yet somehow tragic, but it is relevant to this review, so buckle in....
I've had a guy do my taxes for years. Completely painless. I'd give him the stacks of paperwork, not knowing what was and what wasn't important, he'd sort through it all, smoke about a half pack of Camels, then the printer would fire up. Here is your copy, sign here. And that was it. A few days later, the Commonwealth of VA and the Feds would deposit a check in my bank account.
And that was it until the next year.
This past year, though, I sent him an email. No answer. Then another, same deal. I called, the number has been disconnected.
My tax guy died in January.
So....I'm in a panic. Who can I possibly find that will replicate my previous experience?? The last time that I was looking for a tax person, they all seemed so consumed in playing 20,000 questions and throwing around all these grown up terms (IRA, Roth-Keough, Saving Money), it was all terribly repulsive.
Then someone suggested that I call Dan. And I did, and stopped over with my stack of paperwork and stack of apprehension. It turns out, all I really needed to bring along was the paperwork, the apprehension was unnecessary. Dan got me, he understood that I regarded him as the professional and me as the schmuck who knows zero about taxes and the like. You do your magic, you tell me where to sign, you tell me who much I have to pay you. And mark me on your calendar for next year.
He did all of that, he looked my stuff over, said to give him a few days and he'd touch base with me. On Saturday, he calls and leaves me a voice mail letting me know that I'm getting money back and there is nothing that I need to do. Now admit it, how can hearing that last sentence on your phone NOT be worth 3 stars by itself????
Dan is my new go to guy. He is knowledgeable, laid back, and he gets my off the wall sense of humour. read more
