After reading some of the reviews below, I can't believe we were in the same place. Sounds to me…read morelike these folks are simply " snivelers" who revel in complaining. The Club store that I experienced on my recent visit to Carmel was absolutely amazing, both in product and service. If you're looking to buy inexpensive clothing, this is not the place, nor do they make such claims. This creative, well made clothing is, in my opinion, quite fairly priced. Certainly a large selection of Robert Graham, a line that is not for everybody. But they have a wide variety of different lines, at different prices that are current, hip and great fitting. Otherwise, if IZOD is your preference, go elsewhere. The staff is top notch, and that's coming from a fellow retailer. They are friendly, extremely knowledgeable about their product lines and highly professional. Of course they want to make the sale. Isn't that what they are there for? But they certainly were not pushy or obnoxious about it and they were genuine and quite honest about their assessments. I actually was looking for an overcoat and found one elsewhere that was similar but less expensive. In the end, I went back to these fine folks at The Club to purchase their coat, just because they were such great people and such a pleasure to do business with. If you are male, visiting Carmel and have great taste in clothes, The Club should be your first stop. If your style is more "Dick Cheney Wear", save your money and hit your local mall once back from your trip. The Club is A+

One thing about going to a new city is how you imagine an area in your mind's eye, sometimes…read moredoesn't match the reality. Knowing that this outdoor shopping center was 3 stories and had over 30 stores, I expected the area around it to be like a city center, with heavy foot and car traffic, lots of noise, and business advertisement. Instead, I wasn't sure if we were in the right place, because the neighborhood looked residential. The city planners/architects did a really nice job to implement this intention. The shopping center first opened in 1960, as an open-air courtyard style with a luxury department store, unheard of at the time for a town that small. Throughout the years, it hosted a major department store chain (Saks Fifth Avenue) as well. Now, in keeping with Carmel's intention to not have any national brand retail in it's city limits, the majority of stores/restaurants at this mall are local (though there are exceptions like Tiffany & Co, Anthropologie, and Brunello Cuccinelli). We got lucky and found free street a block from the center. Even on a Monday late morning, it was quite busy with tourists and locals alike hanging out in the main courtyard. A really nice feature was the large outdoor gas firepit that people were using to keep warm. We had come for a particular restaurant, but were informed that they were closed for the day for a private event (no signs or mention on their website)...I guess that's how this particular business rolls.

The center has three different levels with stairs in the middle and each side or if you desire an elevator, there is one on the end. During the weekend or summertime when it's busy, parking can be a challenge. There is a parking garage not far away if the street is full. If that is full, you may need to walk a bit. There is also some great places to eat such as The Flying Fish, a coffee shop, and a wine maker or two. In the center of the plaza, there is space to sit and enjoy the environment-just find some shade if it's warm!

Spectacular luck today stopping in on Boxing Day! I love Cole Hahn shoes and they are the only…read moredress shoes that my adult sons can stand because they are so comfortable. I did not NEED and probably will never again need shoes, having inherited literally 100s of pairs of my late mother's prolific size 10 shoe collection. It is impressive and so fashionable like my mother herself. Lots of classic pumps, ballet flats, sky high stilettos clogs, mules, sandals in a rainbow of colors- high end designer shoes like Jimmy Choo, Manolo Blah ik,Gucci, Prada Armani, Celine and Ralph Lauren. Shoes that I would NEVER buy myself even if i could afford them. I digress, but the point is that I have shoes galore, but the Cole Hahn brand on major sale are the epitome of practical comfort and too good to pass up. I kept picking up pairs that I loved and finding that they were either in stock, able to be ordered and shipped for free AND 50% off . Shout out to super salesman Brian- who kept checking the back, finding pairs online for me. 5 pair, including the best ballet flats, red patent leather and leopard flats with a bow, black satin kitten heels and slip on sneakers. I was out the door in half an hour with a grand total of $393. Yep- less than $80 a pair for premium, practical shoes that fit my lifestyle perfectly. Time to get rid of some of the less practical pair of my mom's shoes to make room in my closet....
