I stayed at Vistalmar Beach Resort with my wife in early September and the first stay was amazing! The young lady at the front desk was kind and respectful. The room was perfect and without any issues. This was the first time we'd stayed in a hotel/resort in Florida that did not make us sick from dust, mold, or other irritants. Had this been our only stay it would've been a 5 star review...but it wasn't.
About a week later we needed to return as we had additional work being performed on our residence. Unfortunately, this visit was subpar. The moment we walked into the room my wife smelled the mold and the dust and began to feel bothered. I did not at that moment but by evening I was extremely sick which forced me to turn the AC off and leave the bedroom door open to allow fresh air in. I removed the filters because they were full and should've been changed more often. In a high traffic area they should be looked at/changed every 3 months, however, I know from conversation these were beyond that timeframe.
The following morning I let the front desk know our issue and they prepared another room for us and were able to move us in around 12-1, the exact time I cannot recall. Once in this room we could feel the irritants immediately so I found the filters and took the pictures that are shown for the front office. At this point it felt like their inadequate cleaning and maintenance became my problem. The tension increased as I asked for the new filters when the response was given, "We rushed to prepare your new room for you. I have to do my job then I can come to help you." I thought the people renting rooms should take precedence but what do I know? I waited for awhile to receive the filters and answer any questions but after an hour I left because I needed to attended to other things.
While away my wife called and informed me the woman from the front desk came to bring the filters and also asked where the old filters were. My wife explained she placed them by the trash chute because of the dust on them and we didn't want them in our room. Apparently they needed to put them back in the room we'd left from because they didn't have any spares and these are "special order" but someone discarded them.
None of these issues should be placed upon the guests back. We are paying plenty of money to stay in a place where we would like be able to breathe and walk around without stepping on green growth coming through the floor (this is only one area with growth, there were more). The only reason this is not a one is because of the first stay we had when everything was perfect. If I had to rate this stay by itself it was a 0. read more
