The is also a nice patio area with picnic tables, a stage and a lighted welcoming lawn where they host various events such as art exhibitions, festivals, outdoor films, musical performances, and other cultural events. As an added bonus, the garden offers free WIFI, a nice paved walkway, a small reflection pool, and has a water fountain. There is free street parking along the side of the garden and within a reasonable walking distance. There is also commercial parking lots available as well, given its close proximity to the Jackson Convention Complex and the Arts Center of Mississippi. The art in the park is amazing. It is an artists' playland and includes murals, sculptures, and interactive pieces. Some pieces you will find there include Garden Boats by Jennifer Torres, The Noodle by Fletcher Cox, Mississippi Alligator by Martha Ferris, and Mississippi Quartet by Ed McGowin. The good thing about this place is that it is open 7 days a week, 365 days a year, for extended hours, even when the museum is closed. You can hang out there and it appears to not get much traffic outside of special events, so it has a peacefulness to it. I recommend checking this place out if you happen to be in the downtown Jackson area. It is very nice and well-constructed. You can easily spend a couple of hours here and be fully engaged. Ohhh, and its free. You can't beat that.

It is starting to shows signs of rust and fading and has been vandalized on numerous occasions. The sculpture was created by Linda Trobaugh for the park's opening in 1986. Trobaugh intended the sculpture to be a reflection of the color, vitality and strength of the neighborhood that it honors. The piece has 6 steel beam panels standing vertical and lined up from front to back. Each panel has its own color going from green to red to orange to blue to orange to white. Each panel has bars arrange horizonal and vertical, in different configurations. Portions of each panel can be seen through each other. You will see a placard near the sculpture that details a bit about it and has a poem on it. The placard was added in 2018, well after the creation of the sculpture. t is an interesting piece, but has been neglected for years. If you are in the area with nothing to do, then it may be worth a visit. There is free street parking available within walking distance from the sculpture. Just be aware that the sculpture is not in the best area. It is kind of sketchy. Anyway, as with most sculptures that I have visited and reviewed, I was there less than 5 minutes. You may want to consider planning out additional stops at many of the other attractions, such as Alamo Theater, or making this stop part of a larger itinerary to maximize your time and trip.

This mural was commissioned in 2019 by local rapper, Big K.R.I.T., to promote his fourth album,…read more"K.R.I.T. Iz Here." K.R.I.T. selected Mississippi Gulf Coast native Michael Roy, artistically known as Birdcap, to do the project. Roy had designed some album covers for K.R.I.T. in the past. It is located on the side of the Arts Center of MS in downtown Jackson. The was one of a series of murals and in addition to be a promotion, it was a gift to the city. Part of the promotion allowed fans to take a picture of the QR code for a chance to win a trip to his album listening party in Atlanta. The project was funded mostly by K.R.I.T, with a donation from The Greater Jackson Arts Council for a scissor lift. Roy expressed that he really enjoyed doing this mural because he does not get to paint in his home state of Mississippi often. The mural depicts K.R.I.T. diving into some water to capture a crown, but there is an alligator on the other side trying to beat him to it. The race is on. Who will win? The mural has a cartoon/whimsical vibe and I like the color scheme that Roy uses. The blues and purples compliment each other very well. It is a very eye catching mural that has the words K.R.I.T Iz Here on a wall behind a walkway on the wall's second level, giving it a countersunk or 3D look. It is a nice addition to the city and blends in perfectly to the artsy area that it is located. Anyway, as with most murals that I have visited and reviewed, this is not a very long stop. I was there less than 5 minutes. You may want to consider planning out additional stops at many of the other attractions in the area, such as the Mississippi Museum of Art, or making this stop part of a larger itinerary to maximize your time and trip.

It is the collaborative work of Clint Dear, Jordan Howie, and Scott Allen of A+ Signs and Creative and took them about 2 weeks to complete. The design was selected from an open call of more than a dozen submissions. You will find it on the wall of the Gadow Tyler Law Office overlooking a commercial parking lot. It was funded by the Greater Arts Council and Downtown Jackson Partners. It is becoming an iconic mural for the city and I love the colors and 3D look of the letters. It will definitely draw your attention. The artwork is nice and even though the design is relatively simple, it is still awesome. The mural is starting to show signs of deterioration though. The paint has chipped off in certain spots. The mural is also fading a bit, but the color is still pretty vivid and pops. Parking here is easy. You can pull into the commercial lot that it overlooks, jump out and take a look. And you probably don't even need to pay. There is also free street parking within a very reasonable walking distance. Anyway, as with most murals that I have visited and reviewed, this is not a very long stop. I was there less than 5 minutes. You may want to consider planning out additional stops at many of the other attractions or making this stop part of a larger itinerary to maximize your time and trip. It is right down the street from the Old State Capital and the Civil Right Museum.
