They forgot to send a bill to my insurance and then tried to get me to pay for the service after a month, though they had confirmed insurance coverage and payment with me. They also showed me a bill for my services on the day they were completed of a break-down of what my insurance had paid for and what my co-pay would be. The overall experience was pretty average. What stood out to me...in a not-so-great way was how unwelcoming the staff felt. The lady who helped me said minimal things and stared a lot without saying much, creepy...which made the environment feel a bit cold and uncomfortable. Even the eye doctor seemed checked out, like he just wanted to get through the appointment and call it a day. Eye exams can already be a little nerve-wracking, so it really helps when the staff brings some warmth or engages in friendly conversation. After trying to renew my drivers license, I couldn't pass the eye test, apparently I needed glasses. I didn't have insurance and didn't know what to do. I had just moved to Tennessee and didn't have a doctor. After calling around a few places and asking questions, I decided to go to VisionWorks in Cookeville. From the moment I called to make the appointment to the minute I walked out with my classes. Each person I came into contact with was friendly, professional, helpful and so caring that I felt very well taken care of. They made me feel they had my best interest at heart. When I called, I got Krista on the phone , she made my appointment. She was very sweet and knowledgeable. She answered all my questions and put my fears at ease. She even explained how Affirm works to make a payment plan as I had no insurance. I went and Cheryl was at the front desk, she was kind, helpful as she greeted everyone who came in and made sure they knew they were going to be taken care of. The doctor was caring and thorough. He took his time and even repeated some parts of my exam twice to make sure I saw what I saw, I'm assuming to get the prescription correct. He explained the questions that I asked and didn't rush me at all. Then there was Cathy who explained all the different lenses to me that were available and how they work when you're wearing glasses. She explained the payments on each one and the buy one get one free frames. She was kind enough to help me pick out the frames that would look best on me and the right colors as well. She explains what happens when the glasses come in and about how long the process would take. She stayed an additional 45 minutes just to make sure that I had everything I needed. She made me feel like I was taken care of and like she genuinely cared. Overall everyone made me feel like they were there for me and I never felt like I was a burden or I was asking too many questions or taking up too much of their time. Most importantly, I am really that I chose VisionWorks for my two pair of glasses as I walked out of there, feeling confident, with a little more pep in my step, because I have the confidence that I can see! read more

Horrible Service!!! They treat there employees like garbage... I heard Mary speak to one in the employees very rudely when they had to call out for a legit emergency!! She should have been ashamed of herself for treating another person with so little compassion. I also had to request a particular document I need for a client multiple times and it was refused by the same person listed above. This interaction took place months ago and I was going to let it go but when I see Mary Forrester begging for people to post 5 star reviews I figured now was as good as time as any to give my HONEST review of this place. I called to ask how much eye exams were and said we needed exams for both glasses and contacts. I was told the exams for myself, my husband and my children would all be $60/person. Until, after we arrived, checked in and exams for eye glasses are $59 and contacts are $119. The only reason we even knew about this is because I overheard a person talking to someone else so I asked for clarification. Horrible customer service. I saw the doctor there (who has the personality of a rock) and took the prescription with me. Went back a few weeks later to get glasses and realized there was a discrepancy between right and left eye in distance. I asked if it could be adjusted to the same in both eyes as my current prescription isn't that way and I have no issues (I know how I see!) and was told I would have to be re-checked and pay for another exam! But if I get glasses with the current prescription and I don't see well with them I would have to be re-checked and may or may not have to pay for another exam, that it depends on the circumstances. Seriously?? Plus the lady telling me this was rude and had an attitude. I threw my script in the trash and walked out. I'll gladly pay for another exam somewhere else. read more

I got a pair glasses from there in January. I paid extra for the ones I got because they were supposed to be shafter resistant. Within a few months of having these lenses they started shattering at the corners of both sides. I called many times and they told me that I would have to buy warranty before they would fix them. So I just had to take them in and let them look at them and I still got the same answer. I ended up taking my prescription and leaving. read more

I have been a patient since this location opened many years ago, initially because they are in network with my vision insurance and they have convenient hours. I have always been pleased with Dr. Miranda and his professionalism; however, I confess I have witnessed fluctuations in the quality of management and customer service throughout the years. It is clear that the company has worked hard to improve this aspect. My son recently had a visit and wanted to try switching to contact lenses for the first time. Anyone who has been through this process themselves or with their child(ren) knows that it can be extremely daunting at first. The support staff was absolutely amazing! They were very patient in assisting him with learning how to put the contacts in and remove them, which took quite a long time. I am very appreciative of their kindness and support, and he is delighted to be able to make this transition and leave the glasses behind. Lastly, I am very impressed with the measures they are taking to ensure safe practices during the Covid pandemic. All of the staff and patients wore masks, and the staff was extremely diligent about sanitizing all equipment and surfaces between patients. I am grateful for the protocol they have implemented to help insure safety of both the patients and the staff. Great job in enhancing the quality of care! I hope this continues and the staff are continually trained and encouraged to provide great customer service. read more

Then tried to get all new glasses, they wouldn't look up my insurance ( I've used there the last 4 years) told me I had to tell them what insurance I had. They take avantage of people with insurance and try to charge you more than if you pay out of pocket. When I called them on it they made up something outlandish. When I called my insurance they said that they either made it up or was providing services they were not licensed to provide. The person I was dealing with was a manager and told me she couldn't give me a refund because she checked me out. I had to wait 2 days and come back when someone else was working. I told her what happened and she looked at me like I was crazy because the lie her coworker told was outlandish even to her. However, they still didn't give me a full refund. read more

About a year ago I brought my father in for new glasses. My father was very hard of hearing and suffering from dementia. As soon we entered Visionworks an employee approached us to help. At one point, the employee had to step away and another employee offered to help. Both employees were professional, friendly, helpful and very kind to my father. My father loved his new glasses! This was the first time I've ever been to a Visionworks and my first pair of glasses. Reception staff was very young (maybe teenagers) and not helpful at all. They mostly stood at the desk staring out the window or texting or talking about the latest party they attended. I was never asked if I needed help with anything. While sitting in the waiting area, I listened to them talk negatively about their previous customers. There were not many people waiting for appointments but for the few that we were, they sort of herded us along like cattle. The doctor was nice enough, but seemed to be a huge hurry and ended up entering my prescription into the computer wrong, which made my glasses wrong. I will never go here again. read more

Vision Works has great customer service and attentive doctors! Our children are in great need of glasses and even break them on occasion. Working with my VSP insurance is also pretty great but when insurance doesn't cover it, Vision Works always has a fabulous deal going on and well worth it. read more

I recently purchased glasses and contacts. While being rang up the First lady had my total at $450 for contacts and glasses then the second lady came over to help out with ringing me up and told the first lady to put in a different kind of code which saved me $150. which if the 2nd lady hadn't come over, I would've never received the promotional deal. ( not sure if they work on commission or salary) I picked Up the glasses first and then about five days later I had to call and find out if my contacts were ready and then went and picked those up. While sitting there waiting to pick up the contacts there was an older gentleman probably 70 complaining about a film being over his glasses the young lady wiped them off several times and kept handing them back to the gentleman and said that there was no issue. he would have to just adjust to them. I wore my glasses for a week and had horrible headaches so I called and set up an appointment to go back they informed me that I was a month away from renewing my prescription which I wasn't aware of after ordering the contacts already I had to do a vision test and contact lens test. they replaced the lenses for free but would not replace the contacts because I had an opened a pair to try to adjust my eyes to them. I end up paying another $75 for a contact lens test and they give me one sample pair to take with me. I go back in one more time to get my glasses fixed because of a film over them that I could not get rid of I would wash my face clean my glasses and it was still there so inevitably I returned the glasses and got $91 back out of the 350$ I spent. So after five trips To the store and a dozen phone calls I have $425 invested in this place with one pair of 30 day contacts that are actually my prescription and no glasses and I have the prescription for the glasses but I don't think it's correct. I don't know if the equipments dated or if it's so many clients coming in that they just cannot do a thorough exam. the older gentleman and myself both seemed to think the lenses had a film. I called several times to speak to the manager and when they finally called me back and I started asking about a refund for the contacts she said well hold on let me let you speak to the manager when she had done told me during the beginning of the phone conversation that she was the manager. Which was just dishonest and wasted my time and hers I would give them zero stars and will NEVER be back! read more

I was waiting outside about 10min before opening. A man walks up stands at the door and the lady inside opens the door. I followed assuming they were opening. The guy stops and is blocking the door looks back at me and locks the door. Turns out he was an employee. Then a couple minutes later another man walks up looks at me smiles and asks if I was waiting to go in and opened the door for me to come in. The first guy was rude. Took 3 times to get my glasses correct. My husband went to Lenscrafters and his was done correctly first time. I only went to VW because VSP accepted fully in network and was still 262 out of pocket. Initial visit with Patrick was good..he was very personable. However, when I finally was able to get my glasses, the blonde woman paid very little attention, more interested in what was going on at the front desk, never asked me to sit at a table to check fit, I said thank you and she just walked away. Also, there is no privacy during the screenings, such as visual field etc....just an open room where everyone in the waiting area can see and hear whats going on. A tall dark haired young man about 20 or so wearing a bow tie was chewing on a piece of gum while administering tests. Very unprofessional.NEVER AGAIN TO TAKE MY BUSINESS HERE.
