For all but 9 of my 28 years I went to Dr Atkinson for my eyes. Over the years I considered him a competent eye doctor but after several different incidents I am led to believe that he does not want to help you as much as one would think. The examples I have are not life threatening but they do leave a bad taste in my mouth. [Background: When I was 11 months old that is when I got my first pair of eyeglasses. I do not remember this but I know this to be true. Because of being born early, I had bad eyes and esotropia.] ~Over the years my mother and I were always told my eyes could not be straightened and never tried to patch my eye to even try. ~When I was 8 I was told that I could never get contacts. A year later and a different eye doctor, I was able to get them and wore them for 13 years. ~When I was 22 I inquired about getting eye surgery so I would not have to wear glasses or contacts anymore. (It was too the point where I would have to have both to correct my vision). He told me that I could not get surgery done because my eyes are too weak. I then explored this option on my own and when I was 22 had cataract surgery, called interocular lens transplant, which inserted prescription lenses in my eyes. After telling him about this, he seemed less than thrilled that I had it done though you would think something like that would receive congratulations. `At 24 I was asked by my new eye doctor (out of state) why my eye was never patched when I was little, I explained that I was told it would not work and that I could never get them straight. I was informed that had it been tried, there would have been a big difference even if it was not thorough and that there is now a surgery that could be done. I just feel that several things that could have benefited my life over the years were never explored on the premise that Dr Atkinson wanted to continue treating me himself without anything getting in the way of me going to him for all my optical needs.
