AVOID AVOID AVOID Dr Chris Raines Vision Care Center "MRS Chris Raines" The "Dr's Wife" AKA "Office Manager" This was an unreal NIGHTMARE and it happened to me. I am a returning client who has NEVER had any trouble with ANY of my healthcare providers EVER. Just read my Yelp reviews. Almost 5 years of happy Yelping and well Mississippi may be a bit slow in picking up Yelp I know a handful of people (if not more) will read this, repeat to a friend or family member thinking of taking on this facility for their vision needs and keep on shopping. I had an appointment yesterday at 3:30, arrived at about 3:10 after planning on shopping for frames before my appt. The office was busy and if was about 20 minutes before I was informed I was not on the schedule. I knew I was supposed to the there and had a reminder call on my phone and copied it into my notepad on my phone. No biggie- the young girl in the back said she could work me in pretty soon so I was totally alright with that. My next appt. comes and goes and a different girl comes over and asks girl #1 why I was still there. Apparently I was put in for a later appt. 2 days later on Wednesday, more waiting while they change it again. Im still fine with everything, just get me in today. Okay so here is what happened. I had a printout of my benefits ( HIGH Option w/ premium frames ) , had already went over what I wanted AND I had a copy of my coverage on my phone that I had a screen shot of from that morning. I am an informed consumer and ALWAYS call my insurance to go over what I have as far as coverage. Heres what I pick- Frames $149 My coverage $130 I'm responsible for $19 and receive an additional 20% off High index lenses $55 out-of pocket not covered. Everything else I choose was 100% covered. Thats going to run around $70 No problem Get my appt. done, everything goes great. I did not see my regular provider Dr Raines but saw a young female Dr who was great. When its time to pay is when it gets crazy. I here her say that will be $170, $179 whatever it was I was like "what are talking about? Why so much?" Oh well the taxes are almost $40 and you pay full retail on everything now. Okay well thats new I guess insurance does not pay taxes anymore. Okay, no big deal- Have to pay our taxes right. So what else? "Oh the retinal pictures are not covered" (I think thats what the pictures were called ) That's an extra $40 Did I not go over EVERYTHING in the begining? Wait wait wait. I NEVER asked for OPTIONAL "pictures" and then it all came back to me. The same office less then one year ago did all the same tests but asked if I wanted the optional pictures as they are not covered by insurance. No I decline. End of story last year. Dr Raines said it was fine to decline, used the old fashioned hand held gadget and looked at my eyes and boom all done. Now heres where it gets unreal. I tell the original 1st girl that I am not paying for a pirture I didn't ask for, had no idea wasn't covered and that I didn't appreciate not being given the option this year. ( How am I supposed to know what they are doing in those machines you put your chin in? ) A women then comes out with my paper file and sits in fron of me and starts out so nasty I was in disbelief.. I told her I didn't ask for a $40 picture, told her we went over all the charges earlier and thats when this insane women lost it. I told her last year Dr Raines and staff gave me the option and he ended up doing it the old way and said I didn't have to do it. HOLY COW This lady then says "WELL I'M THE DRS WIFE AND HE WOULD NEVER SAY THAT!" and I say "Well he did" I then tell her to look at my old records to show last year and she refuses to look. She is almost screaming the entire time and says pay up or get out with nothing. She actually yells at me twice to go to Walmart if I do not like it. "You pay or you leave with nothing" GO TO WALMART Lets not forget I have an insurance claim that is going to pay around $750 and I have the out of pocket fee as well. Is she serious? Get out and go to Walmart? I get up and she goes to the front dest and I again ask her to give me a copy of my exam from last year and she refuses. Heres the worst part Office STILL full of customers She IS yelling at this point and says "MY DR HAD TO GO TO SCHOOL FOR EIGHT YEARS TO BECOME A DR AND THAT MACHINE COST $8000 AND YOU THINK YOU CAN COME INTO MY OFFICE AND NOT PAY ME???!!!!! Excuse me Mrs Dr's wife but I have a University Degree as a Registered Nurse and I"m going back for my Masters this year so don't yell at me about the cost of school. She literaly slams her fists on the counter and yells at me to get out. Office full of customers........ Me who doesn't rattle very easily is in tears at this point- So upset and shocked I can't talk. I leave. I call my insurance. I have the payment blocked. I have to go somewhere else. I have been going to Dr. Rains for 3 years. He was recommended to me by a close friend who had been to a number of the local optometrist and found him the best for fitting her with glasses that improved her vision. Another plus is that his office can make the lens for any pair of your own glasses. Everyone I have seen in his waiting room seems glad to be there as a patient. I would recommend him to anyone who wanted a reliable long-term eye doctor for their eye exams for glasses. I have seen some of the old posts. Sometimes things happen. But I have nothing but good to say and recommend. his services So did my friend! I say give Dr. Rains a try. I have done both Eyemart and Walmart for exams. Was not that impressed the perscription was off. This is why I needed a good eye dr. Eyeglasses are a different thing. But you need a good prescription before you put any money down on good-looking eyeglasses. read more

I have been going to Dr. Christopher Rains since 2000 and ALWAYS have such a wonderful experience. I have recommended him to numerous people and all have loved him. The staff is probably the friendliest medical staff I have encountered ever. If you need an eye doctor, he definitely is the best!!! read more

Yeah i got a text saying my daughters glasses where ready for pickup. I show up there and it's closed, no sign. I waited and waited even called several times. Not even a machine to pick up and allow me to leave a message. I'm furious my daughter has been suffering migraines without her glasses. To which the where fully aware of how important it was for her to get her glasses. So being that it was Friday Oct.21 she had to go the entire weekend without them. So I hope today they decide to open. So unprofessional to not even get a call they where closing. Even if they had some sort of emergency or any issue. A simple note put on the door would have been considerate. That way people like me wasn't wasting their time thinking they might open back up. read more

The staff is very rude and unprofessional. I have been a patient of Dr. Raines for 13 years but after this last visit I was treated just awful. It's really sad that his staff is ruining his business. I have spoke to a few people who have had the same experience. Everything is fine until it comes down to purchasing something from them. read more

This is Dr. Rains and wanted to reply on a few things that were said in reference to some bad reviews that were made about me earlier. I have really never paid much attention to reviews in the past until this incident that happened recently. This review is in reference to some previous reviews that were made by the same male or by quaitness's of this person as you can see, Named Argent King, Joe Smith and Mark Miwerds on July 10th and 11th against myself. This response is in no way to Slander this gentleman, But to set the record straight. Yes, I did receive the phone call that morning when I had just entered the office door when the Alarm went off and I was trying to get turned off. During this instant, a phone call came from the alarm company from my cell, at the same time, This man, who's name I want disclose called in reference to a wallet that they thought had been left here few days before. Well, The office had been closed that day due to meetings the staff had to attend and I had forgotten that so when I entered the door, I was caught by surprise and that's when everything went south. The reason that I had been distraught and little aggravated was that I had just been to the hospital where my brother was dying of kidney disease, Cepsis and Double pneumonia and so you can see why I may have been a little short on the phone, but my mind was on my brother and not the phone conversation. I simply told the person that the office was closed and to check back with the staff the next day and hung up, and I know I was a little abrupt. Before I left to go back to the Hospital, the gentleman called back and left me a voice message. The message said quote "YOU ARE AN UNGRATEFULL BASTARD AND I HOPE YOU CHOKE ON A PIECE OF CHICKEN AND DIE". I couldn't believe what I had heard and it took me by great surprise so I then proceeded to call the gentleman back to please accept my apology, but he immediatlly just slandered me again and said it was TOO LATE and that he was gonna report me to authorities and hung up. Then I called for a second time, but no answer and proceeded to leave a voice message apologizing. But as you can see, he was very quick to start the slandering against me. I certainly believe you can make a judgement call here for yourself and see that this person took this little too far. And this all coming from a military person who we are supposed to trust to be good Americans and be little more compassionate towards people. He could've simply answered my call back and just listened to my side of the story and accepted my apology and that would've been the end of it and under the circumstances that I had been under stress due to my mental anguish from dealing with my brothers sickness. I feel like maybe this was just not a good day for this guy as well and maybe he was going through some tough times as well. So I certainly hope that he can find Joy in his life at some point, just by memory hearing the anger in his voice. I'm really surprised that that this blew up like it did and didn't really think that I was that rude. I really hope this is a lesson for people to try and be forgiving and have a little compassion and to give people a chance to make things right. I know that it has made me think about how I handle things. I have been practicing for 30 years and never have had to defend my reputation ever and I know that there may be some other patients out there that we don't see eye to eye, But I do try my best and my heart is usually in the right place. Please don't let this review from this person influence you in any way to come see me in person for your eye care services. I PROMISE YOU, You'll be happy you did. Friendly and professional. Very efficient operation.Definitely recommended. I have reached the age where I needed reading glasses.I have procrastinated on having a professional eye exam. I was impressed with Dr Chris Rains and his staff. I was able to have eye exam and to be fitted for my glasses the same day. Large selection of frames to choose from. Donna helped me pick out the frames and my family thought they were perfect for me. Thanks again Vision Care Center. read more

Terrible place the employees are great but the office manger is terriable. Don't file your insurence first. You have the worst time getting your money back. It has been over a month and still haven't got my refund back. read more
