I wrote to cancel my membership earlier this year and cancelled my membership (I was not in contract). I received a call informing me that they did not receive my cancellation and expressed an interest in my reason for leaving. I explained that I did not get back to Streatham in time to do the classes I wanted because of work commitments, it was proposed that I suspend my membership and to be reviewed in September. In June this year I developed a serious illness resulting in a long period of absence from work covered by SSP only. In September Virgin Active did not call me for a review, they set up a Direct Debit to deduct money from my account. I contacted my bank and they cancelled it using the DD Guarantee.
Virgin Active are pursuing what they call a debt that I owe. I contacted the number to discuss arrears and I was told to call the MCM (I think) at the club which I did. She explained that she could see what happened and it happens automatically after a period. I explained that I was looking to renew my membership under a benefits program using gymflex, she said she would sort it out on her side, all I had to do was contact gymflex and gymflex would contact them. I went through the process with Gymflex who stated the Virgin Active would contact me with my new membership number. I attended a return to work interview last Friday and I was informed that Gymflex had contacted them informing them that my membership could not be set up because I had a debt of £54.00. I work in Pay and Benefits as a Manager, the email went to our business contact at Gymflex and our Account Manager at a 3rd party and was forwarded to my colleagues.
I have had several conversations with Virgin Active to try to resolve this, but have found them to be underhand, vexatious and malicious and I am looking forward to challenging them on any platform they choose. I will not be bullied my this money hungry outfit. It was okay when I paid my membership and did not attend, but as soon as I wanted out the trouble started. Virgin Active bring it on!!!!! read more
