I'm not sure how authentic this restaurant is, as they had a teriyaki steak, but regardless, the flavors were good and presentations were elegant. I did like my teriyaki steak! This is the only place in Madrid that made me a fun mocktail that was not a virgin mojito or virgin pina colada. Their desserts could use a little more creativity. I had a chocolate shell with some fruits inside. Overall, I enjoyed my meal. For such a large group, I felt like the space was intimate enough that I got a chance to connect with every individual, which is the most important.

The front bar was packed and the dining area in the back got filled as the afternoon went on. Luckily we were able to get a table before the rush. Most locals got the menu del dia but as this was our first meal since arriving in Spain, we went all out on tapas. - jamon: wonderfully salty - pulpo (octopus): nice big pieces, simple with just some olive oil and paprika - paella: more rice than seafood but flavorful - croquettas: my favorite dish - tasty, big portions and hot They forgot to give us the tortilla espanol but the 4 dishes were plenty enough. Even the bread was good.

That did not last long though as it filled up quite fast not long after. This was a pretty local place even though it was pretty close the the plaza. It was out first meal in Spain, so we went right for the tapas. We ordered a jamon plate, octopus, paella, croquettas, and the tortilla. The food came out pretty quickly and everything was very tasty. The jamon was exactly what I was expecting for my first jamon experience. the octopus and paella were pretty tasty, but my favorite was the croquettas. This was a lot of food. Our eyes were bigger then our stomachs. We were actually happy that they forgot to bring out the tortilla as that would have been way to much for us. They did bill us for the tortilla, but were quick to make an adjustment when they noticed the error. I would definitely reccomend Valde Meso.

The staff was super quick to take our orders and get us our drinks and food, too. Between us we had Aperol spritzes (how could we pass up the chance), an Italian beer, and burrata to start. The burrata comes with tomatoes (I don't eat tomatoes but I'm told these are delicious) and arugula, and you can order bread as an extra. Don't miss the bread! I never miss bread as a rule of life. Then, the mains: tortellini with ragú and pumpkin truffle lasagna. The lasagna is mouth-wateringly delicious, a huge portion melting over the plate with truffle interspersed. I only had a bite of the tortellini, but the ragú was very tasty. Only piece of advice: at least on a weekend, arrive early or be prepared for a wait!
