This restaurant is not in the USA, it is in Reynosa, Tamaulipas, Mexico. The closes border town from Texas would be called Hidalgo, Texas and we took the international bridge to get to this location. Upon your return to the US, you can encounter this restaurant and enjoy good mid to high end Mexican cuisine.
To begin with, this is not the restaurant you would go to for a fully authentic Mexican experience. Yes, all platters are Mexican food plates, but your every day local wouldn't eat here. I would compare this restaurant to an American Applebee's in terms of the kind of people that frequent this location. It is definitely not a fast food location. Though it is my first check-in, I have come here since I was a child, over 25 years ago.
In this meal, I ordered a custom made plate that included a beef milanesa (lightly breaded steak), fries, and mashed potatoes. The mash potatoes come with slivers of onion, so if you don't like that, then you may want to choose an alternative. Like most Mexican restaurants of this kind, don't expect the portions to be excessive. However, I've never left this place unsatisfied with my meal. My milanesa was cooked as I wanted it and it didn't have salsa on it upon my request.
One thing you will notice right away about the customer service is how attentive everyone is. From the gentleman host who sat us down to the young lady that was attending to us, we were being catered to like few restaurants in the US are able to accomplish. My mother, who I was treating for lunch, told me that she wish she could have had some butter with the bread that was brought for us to enjoy prior to our main course. Out waitress immediately came and asked what she needed, since she noticed my mother was looking for something. I asked for butter and she said, "Right away, whatever you need." She came back in under 20 seconds with butter for both of us.
The reason I take away one star is because our drinks weren't as cold as I would have liked them to be. We did order juice, which is naturally squeezed. My mother had grapefruit while I had orange. Though we could have asked for ice, it would have watered an otherwise great tasting natural juice down.
If you travel down to Meixco and don't want to eat street food, this is a good, safe environment where you can enjoy authentic Mexican food with a good customer service. Our total bill was under 25 dollars. You could pay dollars but you get Mexican pesos as change. Credit Cards are accepted and WiFi is available at this location. Enjoy! read more
