Paid for a map that hondata provides for free. Asked for a map to get my H2B project running s300 as I was having difficulties sourcing accurate dead times for an injector. Explained my situation on how I've tried every program out for OBD1 and explored a lot of maps to gather variety of times for these injectors, after comparing a basemap that hondata will auto generate vs what a professional tuner sold me I couldn't tell the difference! Came in to get a cross threaded bolt broke and a new one put on and to get my preload fixed. Waited 2.5 hours and told me my repair was complete and the cost was $365. After I paid they told me they couldn't get the bolt off and I needed to call Friday to come back in. Called multiple times Friday with no response. Waited until Monday and called them and they said they'd get me in and call me back in a little bit. Only to waste my entire day waiting for a call in hopes to get my car fixed. Called them multiple times with no answer. Completely wasted $365. Took it to another shop and they explained everything they did wrong and had to reverse it all. ALSO FORGOT TO PUT A LUG NUT ON MY WHEEL!!! I rarely ever leave reviews for businesses but this is by far the worst experience I've ever had, do not go here. read more

I scheduled an appointment to have my lower control arms fixed and when I left it sounded like it was in worse condition then when I brought it in. I brought it to another mechanic that told me the control arms were put on the wrong sides. I called VIP Performance and they refused to refund me. I took my car here and they told me to leave it there for more than a few weeks and when I came to pick it up finally, all of my parts were either broken or leaking, which is why I brought it in in the first place. I went to a dealership here in the Portland area a big dealership. They told me I was going to need a head gasket on my Honda S2000 and quoted me a little bit more than $4000. I went to VIP performance and told him I needed a head gasket and they quoted me a Less price not surprising and wanted to make sure it was the head gasket that was giving me a problem. The car was overheating. They did a few checks on the head something called a pressure down or something of that sort and Zach came back and told me the head was fine. It just needed a four dollar fuse. These people are great very trustworthy, I recommend them highly. read more

I bought a 2020 Civic from a dealership (cough Swickard cough) not knowing the extent to which the previous owner modified it, and assuming a dealership would sell me a good car. My check engine light came on after a couple months and Honda told me it was the exhaust mods and I needed to get it tuned at a shop. My first visit to VIP, they charged me nothing, explained the part giving me the problem, and recommended asking Honda to replace it with the factory part since they essentially sold me a non street legal car. Needless to say this didn't happen for free! I ended up coming back to VIP, they installed a cheat piece for the O2 sensor and also tuned the car. Unfortunately while they were in the computer tuning, it freaked out and triggered the entire Honda sensing system (cruise control, lane departure mitigation, etc) to stop working. I had to get this reset at a Honda dealership, along with a new check engine light that came on. But the Honda sensing lights never came back on, and I had VIP install another cheater piece for the check engine code. Since then my car has been perfect with no check engine lights. I was on a road trip during that time and Nicole was emailing me the whole time exchanging info and ideas. I really respect Nicole and the other VIP employees. If I had to be honest, sometimes I was double booked or made to wait longer than I expected. But this didn't bother me too much at what I knew was a small business and was worth it for the help I received. The owner is a former Honda dealership tech and I guarantee they are the best resource for Honda racing/performance around. Even though I'm a rare customer who wants my car to be LESS exciting, I will come back to them with any future performance issues or questions. read more

I took my 1998 Honda civic over there with engine problems. After one week, they told me that the engine lost compressions in cylinder 3 and that it had a cracked sleeve. It was going to be over $5000 to fix it. I brought the car home and after 2 months of saving money without using the car, I took it to another mechanic for a second opinion. It turned out that the lost compression was in cylinder 2 and all I need is a valve job. The car is up and running and it cost me $650. Stay away from them. They are scammers and liars. They don't care about their customers. They never even troubleshoot the issue and charged me close to $200 to say this. How come they even told me the wrong cylinder? read more

Don't come here. I had a terrible experience, but my boyfriend's was even worse. He took in his Honda S2000 to replace his engine. He was going back to an engine that he used 3 weeks prior (so he's familiar with how it performs, how it sounds, etc.). After a WEEK and $1200, he got it back. Bolts/screws were missing, the engine was making weird noises, he was experiencing coolant leakage, and so forth. He's had his engine replaced before, and has never had issues as the ones described. After urging him to point out the issues to them, they charged him a fee on top of all that to fix the issues THEY created. I couldn't believe it. I took in my 2015 Honda Fit because of a cylinder #2 misfire, and the proposed solution was cleaning my fuel injectors ($350), which doesn't guarantee to fix anything. For reference, a new-ish engine would cost me $600 max (gotta love Honda Fit's) and brand new fuel injectors are the same price. Either one of those options would be more likely to fix everything than a cleaning. I told them they can inspect it to see what might be the root of the issue ($100). They did my inspection, cleaned up the spark plugs, reset the lights and told me it's probably fixed. They told me they took it on numerous test drives. Okay, seemed legit. My lights came on my 2nd drive. Nothing changed. I took it elsewhere and the issue was fixed within 2 days :-) Conclusion: I got the vibe that they care more about financial gain than performing a solid job on your car. I'm all for supporting local/small businesses, but if your business runs this way -- I'm sorry, it won't pay off. Hire experienced mechanics! I don't mind paying more for a good job, I really don't. The owners are truly really nice, but I don't think they understand how inexperienced their mechanics are. That said, it might be a great place to get an oil change or a battery replacement (which are easy things to do), but if it gets any more advanced, you're better off going to another shop. read more

I had a terrific experience with VIP Performance. Went to them to have them install some performance parts on my 2015 Ford Mustang, a Blowfish Racing shifter bracket and a Mishimoto H-pipe. This was a bit of an unconventional request, and not your standard 'repair' or parts. They did a perfect job, and took only an hour and a half to install both, much faster than I expected. They did a very clean installation, with no problems at all. The technician was very professional and friendly. The shop seems to have a reputation for mostly working on Japanese cars (which were most of the cars inside), but they certainly did a great job on my Ford Mustang with these two projects. It is very rare to find an automobile repair business that is as highly respected as this one is. VIP Performance's reviews live up to their billing. Here's mine: When you walk into the shop it looks understated, there's no flashy displays, no real "bling" trying to distract you from anything. You'll walk in and immediately see rates posted on the front desk very clearly. This is a HUGE plus. Why you ask? Because they're being transparent and open regarding their service costs, which a lot of shops are not. You'll look around and see that there are some parts on the wall and some merchandise in the glass cases. But again, there's nothing presumptive or stuffy about this shop. Wryann keeps it basic and to the point. What stood out to me about VIP Performance was that Wryann actively listened to my situation and the vehicle's history. I needed to make sure that Wryann would be able to offer true solutions and be able to really listen to what had happened and what I wanted to happen with my vehicle. He did that with flying colors. He offered solutions and gave a personal history as well as his views on how to treat customers. My expectations were fully met and even exceeded. Wryann wanted to make sure I was at ease with his shop, so he let me into the back of the facility and introduced me to the employees working for him. While he showed me around and told me about what the shop was capable of doing, he had to go tend to a customer at the front desk. I took that time to ask his employees about what they thought of the shop, of Wryann, and his work. There are certain questions you can ask to illicit very black and white responses. His employees respect him. They respect his demeanor, and they respect his work. Their reactions were so telling and so up front that it caught me off guard. During the banter about the shop, you could tell the excitement about what projects they had done, the projects upcoming, and the racing programs that they're into. This excitement and fervor for their trade is unusual in my experience. After the tour, Wryann suggested that I bring in my vehicle for a multi point inspection before any work was to be done. Again, another VERY positive sign. Why? You need to know what you're dealing with before you go slapping parts on a vehicle. This is the ONLY shop I've worked with that has done this. His charge for the inspection was listed on his rates sign in plain view. Fast forward one week. I brought in my vehicle as scheduled. Everyone in the shop had a part in the inspection. It was as if the whole anthill descended on the vehicle. Wryann took command of the inspection and made sure everything was justified as it was being recorded. The details were very intricate, justified, and clearly understandable. When we finished the inspection and with me thoroughly impressed with the attention and detail, I asked if they had time to do a little additional project. This was another test on my part to gauge their flexibility to situations. I had them install an HID retrofit kit that I had purchased nearly a year ago. To be clear, I had installed it myself and removed it for some further upgrades. I brought it in, knowing that I could install it. I wanted to see the shop at work with a real job, not just an inspection. Again, the guys descended on the car. We knocked the HID install and adjustment out in less than an hour. The results made all of us smile. Seeing a car like mine with the effect of "demon eyes" then the absolutely clean results from the high quality HID kit was nearly breathtaking. The bottom line? VIP Performance will take the time to understand you and your vehicle's needs. They're ASE Certified which offers a degree of confidence that they can tackle vehicle issues that come in. After a really bad and lengthy experience with getting my car tuned at a different "performance" shop, I was skeptical about who I could trust to get my custom engine set-up on my RX-7 properly tuned. A friend told me to give VIP a call and see if they could help. After speaking with Wryann over the phone and via email, I quickly found the difference in professionalion that VIP holds itself to. I was treated with respect and felt like a valued customer. Wryann was quick to ask for an extensive mod list and bio history of my car and made sure that he was aware of anything that could possibly present an issue. He was also familiar with my recent bad shop experience and told me that they would put in the hours to get it done. I took my Toyota T100 in to diagnose a #4 cylinder mis-fire and after two weeks and $771 of trouble shooting, they concluded that it had an internal issue with the cylinder and needed an engine replacement. I went to Ken Van Damme's for a second opinion and they found the issue to be a faulty spark plug wire. It took them less than a day. I've trusted this place for several years now and believe they are good people, but no longer feel that I can rely on them for basic, automotive needs. read more

I was a customer for a while. Brought in a 2000 Chevy work truck with inter mitten run problems. Was told it was the main diesel injection pump. They said it was going to be expensive.... seeing how they fixed every problem I have had so far I started to get out my credit card and the owner stopped me. He then did the unthinkable, he said it was a factory recall/warrantee work and I should take my truck to Chevy for free repair. I was all set to pay whatever it cost to get my work truck back up and running and they could have charged me anything and what they did was be honest and sincere! I had a lot of work done by the guys that used to be here, GroundZero but once VIP came in I was a little skeptical. After seeing some of the cars they've built I wasn't too worried though. They have a pretty good selection of parts, although their prices aren't stellar they can pass since you're buying in person locally vs online. Their labor is a little on the expensive side though. I've referred a few of my friends and they were mostly satisfied, again, the labor is on the expensive side, but the work is quality. No problems with that here. They've always thrown in small freebies with part purchases for me which I thought was great! If you're looking for aftermarket specialists or even general repair work, I recommend swing by and see what they can do to you, they do good work and Wryann definitely knows what he's doing. read more

He gave me the option to order the parts. When the order came in an appointment was made. They started on time and they finished ahead of schedule. What a fantastic surprise, to discover talented, young, honest mechanics with high standards and great prices. I recently purchased a 21-year-old Audi, believing it could be a great car with the right combination of TLC and good mechanics. It needed a lot of work- majorly a new heater core, among other big things. I'm a 60-year-old woman with no knowledge of cars and I've been taken advantage of by mechanics who can detect my ignorance right away. Because I intend to keep this sweet little car forever I want to develop a good relationship with my mechanic so I shopped around for a month, and sprang a few bucks for estimates. Many "big name" local shops didn't bother to answer my emails, some gave me outrageous quotes and some were downright rude. Then I found VIP and looked no further. Not only was VIP's quote 80% of most of the others I received, it included more work. And the day I went to pay them and pick up my car I told Wryann that I'd forgotten to tell them that the door locks were wonky and I would often locked inside. He said how unsafe that was and asked me to please (he said "please"!) leave the car one more day. They fixed it, but to do so they had to take off the entire door panel and take it into the shop, puzzle out the problem, lubricate it and reassemble it. Door locks are fixed, and VIP didn't charge me a dime for all that extra work. I can testify that if you're ignorant about automobiles like I am you can completely trust VIP not to take advantage of you, and to do superior work, and importantly, to care. Some of the parts they used were even surprisingly fun. When they fixed my wired-on, dragging exhaust system, they replaced it with one that actually looks sporty and awesome and has a lovely deep purr. very disappointed; took longer than expected, costed more than expected, and the initial service was so poor the car was not drivable at pickup (no oil pressure, backfiring, hesitation). every single time i went into that shop i stood there for 5-10 minutes staring at honda parts while owner talked on phone, used computer, etc.. very frustrating,. owner never so much as held the phone to say hello, look up or nod, etc. very alarming.. had a blown valve, had already disassembled head (less work for shop, much less diagnostic work) on a 4 cyl ancient push-rod motor (extremely simple technology btw), brought in for valve work and reassembly... thought this little, old 4 cylinder technology would be short work for "VIP performance" well.. they sent me, and the car home completely UNDRIVABLE after "rebuild" with damaged parts from previous owners (car was recently purchased), etc... no oil pressure, lifter tick, backfiring, hesitation, exhaust leak, severely retarded timing, and many other issues that demonstrate a total disinterest in the car, or quality of service.... called and had to drop off car for another week. they replaced part and charged me (270.00!) on top of the near 2000 dollars i had already spent, got it back, ignition timing was way off and you could tell just by driving the car home that very little time was spent tuning... at this point i knew there was no way that i was going back in there.. i couldn't risk spending more money and hearing more excuses.. still backfiring, exhaust leak/rattle, heat shield rattle, still vaccum advance issues, was still hesitating below 3k. wryann (wtf kind of name is that anyway), owner actually QUOTED as saying straight to my face "i could put it on the dyno really easily, but i just figured, with this car, i would just see how it goes, play it by ear, etc.." "i think it's pretty good right?" what? you're gonna tell me how easy it is to dyno tune my car and then tune it like shit yourself and send me home with it? what? whatever man. other mechanic was a dick; owner claimed "well, uh, he doesn't really talk to other humans much" only decent work done was by the independent machine shop that they OUTSOURCED to do the valve grinding, etc.. had a feeling the entire time that owner didn't want you near shop area; felt like a patient at the dentist, but instead trapped in an office full of honda parts (equally as painful). diagnostic paperwork mentioned exhaust leak, and gasket replacement; yet despite manifold being EXTREMELY accessible during engine rebuild, and 6 dollar paper gasket cost, they did not replace the gasket and sent me back the car with noticeable and audible exhaust leak from manifold!.... (even tested dickhead mechanic during test drive by asking him if leak was normal, he responded, uhh, yeah man thats fine, uhh) i also asked them to remove some cheap gauges off the dash for me that came on the car when i bought it, and to replace a muffler hanger, among a few other tiny things,,, none were done; things that would take me, you, or the shop 30 seconds a piece to replace/fix/remove, an obvious sign of the little time/effort spent on the car. was able to get 30% more power, no backfiring, hesitation, etc.. by tuning the car myself with nothing but a vaccum gauge in front of my apartment building; probably spent a whopping hour hopping in and out of the car and tweaking various things... wow guys. wow maybe if you have a honda you would get better service; FWD geeks... dudes obviously spend lots of time on their own cars, who knows about yours; owner wryann drives a skyline R34 that he got from overcharging amateur tuners and everyday drivers like you and me. watch out have a feeling if you don't have a caged race car, shop will view you as easy cash, shit-for-brains civilian- aka money in the bank with minimal effort, and zero true interest. everything i've heard second hand after the fact has been to stay away, even once was told by a fellow tuner "whoa man, sorry no one told you about that place" embarassing to have to write such a detailed review that they will certainly read and remember; also a member of the tuner scene here in PDX so i'll inevitably bump into the mechanics/owners, but i'm not the one who charged nearly 2k to rebuild a sewing machine motor, and quite poorly would be an understatement. they could have overcome the mechanical fuck-ups and delay with great customer service or discounted labor maybe; but they didn't. not even an explanation. just being objective and honest about my experience --- hate to give a young shop bad press, especially one involved in the PNW tuner scene but can't help but be completely honest about what happened here.. will never return. P.S. my buddy's ae86 seat got welded by owner so high his head hit the roof after being deliberately told to "slam that shit"; buddy refused to pay and never returned.. had to go somewhere else.... read more

So I arrived I needed to use the bathroom I ask if I can I use d bathroom & I get ignored. After waiting for a while they finally decide to aknowledge me.I told them I was there so that I can get my ECU chipped. After going thru it. Then he said sorry we cant do this one right now.... So I tell him that I seen their adverisment in craigslist & I prooved it to him in my phone. After he sees it he only states sorry. So then I said that I was driving from far a three hr drive, I had also talked to someone before making a three hr drive & they stated they could do the job. So then with a careless attitude he offers me one of his products 3 X retail price just cause they worked on it & has their name,I didn't have a choice since I was driving from far away & then in exchange they kept my ECU & gave me shit for it cause they didn't know about it. They don't trust us but they expect us to trust them knowing their parts r used. So after I purchase their ECU they put the programs they wanted not the programs I wanted. At this point I asked him if I can get my money back, he stated no refunds after purchases. I ask again for d restroom n I get another employee FOLLOWING me all d way to d restroom. Lol .wth..they treat you like if it was a domestic shop. If u don't show with a GTR, mk4, NsX, or s2k is just another Honda. For sure they will not get my business anymore I am taking it somewhere else 4 sure! I was really excited before getting their but it was a total disappointment. read more
