I love it even more when the records are organized and have labels to help you find things so much easier... They also had areas for their new arrivals + a pretty large sale section! As a bonus, they have a small memorabilia section with some interesting, nostalgic merch. This place is worth a stop in when in Memphis!

Do you have mail order for your t-shirts?…read more We were the couple that came by 2 weeks ago on 3 consecutive days/nights and bought the two green "Memphis - Music Forever " t-shirts and a coaster. We admired the vinyl records collection, especially the soul/R & B collection which were actually reasonably priced. Al Green, TP, EWF, and other superstars. Malcolm was there the first two nights and we chatted with him. He is the owner's son - but clearly is more or less the owner- and was so personable and friendly that he is THE reason we bought swag here. We checked out the other Beale Street souvenir shops but this place was more than a step above the others, way better! We went to Graceland, Sun Studio, Stax Music, Four Way restaurant, Cozy Corner bbq, Charlie Vergoss (overrated), Kooky Canuck, and Sunrise biscuits - but Memphis Music Records Tapes & Souvenirs had the best vibe of any of them (Four Way was a close second, highly recommend). All because of Malcolm and the variety of inventory they have. Thank you!!! I would've bought more but my suitcase couldn't handle more!

It's a ritual to hit a record store whenever I'm out of town. With Memphis being historically deep…read moreinto music, it was fitting to make sure to make it happen this trip. Shangri- La Records was up the street from where we had BBQ & as soon as we walked in, the records covered wall to wall. So much to choose from. There was a section with a setup of drums & a mic stand. Came to find out there was a jam session that ended right before we walked in. I really really enjoyed the Memphis sections, whether it was based off of a record label (like Stax) or an artist (like OV Wright). When I found the record I ended up buying, I instantly told myself that I was going to back as long as I'm ever in Memphis. 'B-Ball's Best Kept Secret' is super rare. NBA players produced + performed on the album. I thought I was trippin' because I always heard about it on podcasts & when I saw the tracklist I was like "OH SNAP!!". The individual who helped at the register (who might've been the manager/owner) was really nice & hooked us up with a sticker (I collect local stickers). Great experience as a first time visitor + consumer.

The back room items do not change what so ever though. It looks like the people that have booths back there have forgotten them. Some booths are not "walk-a-ble" and you have to side walk in and out. Some booths are not inviting, interesting enough to want to look in, have too many funko pops, license plate art (who buys that honestly?)
